Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Genferon is a nasal spray that has an antiviral effect due to an increase in the activity of enzymes that suppress the reproduction and activity of pathogenic microorganisms.
The immunomodulatory properties of the drug are due to an increase in the immune response aimed at the action of most pathogenic microflora and cells exposed to bacterial influence.
The process occurs due to the following reactions:
- increased activity of natural killer cells;
- increased activity of B-lymphocytes and increased antibody production;
- enhanced action of the monocyte-macrophage system;
- activation of cellular processes during which solid particles are digested;
- increasing the immune response at the molecular level, which allows the immune system to recognize affected (infected) cells.
Thus, the drug exhibits a pronounced antibacterial effect.
Under the influence of the main component (interferon), there is an increased production of leukocytes located in the mucous cavity. Moreover, these substances are directly involved in the suppression of pathological processes. Thanks to this effect, the production of immunoglobulin A (IgA) is improved.
The second active substance (taurine), when ingested, leads to the restoration of metabolic reactions and accelerated healing of damaged tissues. This component exhibits high antiviral and immunostimulating properties and is an antioxidant that inhibits the development of various disorders associated with an excess of oxygen in the body.
The combined action of the 2 components leads to a more pronounced therapeutic effect.
The drug has a low degree of absorption and bioavailability. This effect is due to the influence of protein compounds located in the nasal mucosa, which are responsible for the penetration and transportation of various substances.
A small proportion of the drug is able to penetrate the systemic circulation. Thanks to this action, there is an increase in systemic immunity.
Genferon during lactation
Genferon during breastfeeding is allowed to be used to treat infectious diseases, but only after a doctor’s prescription. That is, suppositories and sprays are used under medical supervision. This is explained by the fact that the components of the medication stimulate antibodies and immune cells, which enter the baby’s body during feeding along with suppressed pathogenic microbes.
To protect newborns, they should be switched to infant formula at the time of treatment. After completion of the therapeutic course, lactation is resumed.
Based on all of the above, Genferon during lactation is an effective and relatively safe drug for the treatment of various infections.
In order for the medication to bring only benefit, lactating women must follow the rules of administration. Otherwise, there is a risk of negative reactions in the mother or newborn. Subscribe to our VKontakte group
