Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics
Whole corn raw material , collected during the ripening of corn cobs (most often the columns together with the stigmas of a given plant), includes many compounds and substances useful to humans, due to which the medicinal properties of corn silks are manifested. These raw materials have a beneficial effect on the human body: bitter glycosides , sitosterol, vitamins K and C , stigmasterol, saponins , essential and fatty oils, carotenoids , resinous and sugary compounds, alkaloids and other substances.
The main area of application of corn silks is associated with their pronounced diuretic and choleretic properties. With oral administration of tinctures, extracts and decoctions of this plant material or preparations in which it is present, there is a significant increase in bile secretion , a decrease in its relative density and viscosity, a decrease in the serum concentration of bilirubin , an increase in the plasma content of prothrombin and an increase in blood clotting .
In traditional medicine, the medicinal properties of corn silk allow them to be used as a fairly effective remedy that promotes the dissolution of stone deposits in the bladder, ureters, kidneys and promotes their speedy and less painful removal from the urinary system .
In turn, traditional medicine did not ignore corn columns with stigmas and designated its area of application for this raw material. Corn silk in the form of a decoction, tincture or extract is successfully used to obtain a mild calming effect that helps improve mood, reduce irritability, improve cerebral circulation and facilitate the process of falling asleep.
It is also practiced to use corn silk for weight loss . In this case, the effects of raw materials come in handy, aimed at increasing metabolic processes, stabilizing serum sugar levels, reducing appetite and regulating salt balance , promoting weight loss, which is confirmed by numerous reviews of corn silk for weight loss.
Folk remedies for the fight against cystitis
Cystitis is an infectious disease, and only a doctor should treat it, especially during an exacerbation. However, there are situations when, for various reasons, the use of antibiotics and other drugs of official medicine is impossible. For example, when a patient is intolerant to medications or if, after long-term treatment, antibiotics lose their effectiveness. That’s when traditional medicine is successfully replaced by folk remedies for cystitis.
Cystitis should be treated with folk remedies according to the same scheme that is used by traditional medicine doctors: relieving spasms and pain; drinking plenty of fluids plus diuretics to flush out the infection from the bladder; antibacterial effect; anti-inflammatory drugs.
Each of these generally accepted stages of treatment corresponds to a set of medicinal plants, folk methods that cope with cystitis, sometimes even more effective than medications.
Indications for use
According to the official instructions, indications for the use of corn silk include:
- nephrourolithiasis ( renal stone disease with small stones );
- cholecystitis (inflammatory processes in the gallbladder);
- edema syndrome (excess fluid in the body);
- cholangitis (inflammatory processes in the bile ducts);
- biliary dyskinesia (painful condition of the biliary system due to impaired contractile function of the gallbladder);
- chronic hepatitis (inflammatory processes in the liver tissues);
- bleeding (most often with hypoprothrombinemia in combination with vitamin K ).
Description
Corn is a unique and very valuable product. Its cobs, leaves, and thread-like fibers called corn silk are used in medicine. They have another name - corn hair.
The raw materials are bundles of thick, tangled silk threads up to 20 cm long and about 1 mm in diameter, at the ends of which there are forked stigmas. The filamentous processes are usually green, yellow-brown or cherry in color. They have a characteristic odor and slimy sweet taste.
Corn silk, instructions for use (method and dosage)
The raw materials of the drug are indicated for oral use in the form of a decoction, which is taken every 3-4 hours (shake first). Patients over 14 years of age can take 15-45 ml of the medication once. When used in childhood, single doses of the finished drug should be reduced at 10-14 years of age to a maximum of 15 ml; at 7-10 years old - up to a maximum of 10 ml; at 3-7 years - up to a maximum of 5 ml. The duration of the therapeutic course is determined by the doctor individually.
The decoction is prepared by steaming 3 tablespoons (about 10 grams) of raw materials in a glass (200 milliliters) of hot boiled water, followed by boiling this mixture in a closed enamel container in a water bath for 30 minutes. After this period of time, the broth is cooled for 45 minutes at room temperature, after which it is filtered through several layers of gauze and the remaining raw materials are squeezed out. The liquid preparation thus obtained is brought to a volume of 200 milliliters with warm boiled water.
In order to reduce weight, an infusion or decoction is prepared from corn silk.
To make an infusion, 0.5 cups of dried raw materials must be boiled in 500 ml of water, then infuse the mixture for 120 minutes. Strain it through several layers of gauze, squeeze out the remaining raw materials and add water to a volume of 500 ml. The prepared infusion should be taken 20 minutes before meals, 100 ml.
To make a decoction, pour 1 teaspoon of dried raw material into a glass (200 milliliters) of hot water and boil for at least 60 seconds. After this, you should let the mixture brew, strain it through several layers of gauze, squeeze out the remaining raw materials and add water to a volume of 200 ml. You need to take the prepared infusion three times every 24 hours, 20 minutes before meals, 1/3 cup.
