It is a myotropic antispasmodic that has a vasodilating effect. The drug is an absolute analogue of such a popular drug as “No-Shpa”. The medication has a positive effect on the smooth muscles of various organs, makes it possible to eliminate spasms, relieve pain of both nervous and muscular origin.

Compound

The composition includes the active ingredient drotaverine hydrochloride .
1 tablet contains 40 or 80 mg of this substance. Additional elements: talc, potato starch, povidone, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate.

1 ml of injection solution contains 20 or 40 mg of active substance.

1 ml of solution for IV and IM contains 20 or 40 mg of active substance, as well as additional elements: injection water, sodium disulfite and ethanol.

Contraindications

"Drotaverine" in ampoules has the following contraindications:

• excessive sensitivity to the active component or any of the excipients of the drug;
• severe kidney and liver failure;
• high sensitivity to sodium disulfite;
• serious chronic heart failure;
• lactation period;
• minor age.

Use with caution during pregnancy and arterial hypotension (possibility of collapse).

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Compared to papaverine, it has a longer and more pronounced effect, despite the similarity in pharmacological properties and chemical structure. The mechanism of action is aimed at reducing the flow of calcium into smooth muscle tissue. Drotaverine hydrochloride dilates blood vessels, reduces intestinal motility , and the tone of smooth muscle tissue of internal organs. The drug does not affect the functioning of the autonomic nervous system and does not pass through the blood-brain barrier .
The drug is prescribed when it is impossible to use m-anticholinergic drugs. When administered intravenously, the effect develops after 4 minutes, the maximum is recorded after half an hour. It is excreted to a greater extent by the kidneys and to a lesser extent by bile.

As the instructions for “Drotaverine” injections indicate, if the drug is administered intravenously, the patient needs to be in a lying position (probability of collapse). It contains disulfite, which can cause allergic reactions, including bronchospasm and anaphylactic symptoms in predisposed patients, especially in those with a history of allergies or bronchial asthma.

If the body is overly sensitive to disulfite, parenteral use of the drug should be avoided.

The medicine is prescribed to adults three times a day orally, 40-80 mg. No more than 240 mg.

Drotaverine injections, instructions for use

40-80 mg is administered subcutaneously and intravenously 1-3 times a day. In order to relieve renal and hepatic colic, 40-80 mg is administered intravenously slowly. Intra-arterial administration is acceptable for peripheral vascular spasm.

For children

Children from 3 years to six years of age can be administered 10-20 mg at a time, no more than 120 mg per day. 2-3 doses per day are acceptable.

The drug contains metabisulfite, which can cause allergic-type reactions, including symptoms of anaphylactic shock and bronchospasm in sensitive patients, especially those who have a history of bronchial asthma or allergies.

The drug can weaken the effect of antiparkinsonian drugs (for example, levodopa). The drug enhances the effectiveness of antispasmodics, bendazole , papaverine. When taking procainamide, tricyclic antidepressants , and quinidine simultaneously, a drop in blood pressure is recorded. Reduces the spasmogenic effect of morphine. Phenobarbital enhances the effect of the drug.

During scientific research to improve the properties of papaverine and optimize its industrial production, a new substance was obtained. This substance, called drotaverine, was several times more effective than papaverine. In 1962, the drug was patented under the trade name No-Shpa. It is noteworthy that this name reflects the effect of the medicine. In Latin it sounds like No-Spa, which means No spasm, no spasm. The drug has undergone a series of clinical trials, and its safety has been carefully monitored for many decades. Due to its effectiveness, relative harmlessness and low price, the medicine quickly gained popularity. In the Soviet Union, No-Shpu began to be used in the 1970s. Side effects
