Galavit - how to take tablets, injections and suppositories, analogues

Galavit: properties

Since Galavit affects the body by influencing the metabolic activity of macrophages, it is able to inhibit the hyperactivity of macrophages for 6-8 hours in the case of existing inflammatory processes. In addition, Galavit, instructions for which are included in each package, can: - inhibit the synthesis of tumor necrosis factor; — promote the restoration of the regulatory functions of macrophages; — reduce the level of auto-aggression; - enhance phagocytosis; — increase the bactericidal activity of immune cells.

The achievement of the above effects is observed within 72 hours.

Short description

Galavit is a domestic immunomodulator.
Its name, meaning “global life” in Latin, was born at the Medical Academy. I.M. Sechenov and fully corresponds to the purpose of the drug, the indications for use of which can hardly fit into a standard package insert. The active substance of galavit, sodium aminodihydrophthalazindione, is quite suitable for use as an unpronounceable tongue twister or for an exam in the casting of television announcers. It cannot be said that this drug is so widely known today, which seems completely undeserved: galavit is, in fact, the only immunomodulator with reliably proven anti-inflammatory activity. For a brief introduction to the drug, it remains to add that it is relatively “young” and has been used in Russia since 1997. The pharmacological group of immunomodulators is one of the most extensive and “multinational”, including drugs of natural and synthetic origin. Galavit belongs to the latter. Its mechanism of action is due to the ability of the active substance of the drug to regulate the functional and metabolic activity of phagocyte cells (neutrophils, monocytes/macrophages, natural killer cells). Here it would be appropriate to somewhat dispel the terminological “fog” and talk about phagocytic cells. Neutrophils and monocytes are a type of white blood cell. The former account for 40-60% of all leukocytes. These are mature cells whose task is to surround and destroy foreign agents. Monocytes, which after maturation are called macrophages, make up 3-8% of all leukocytes. They not only absorb bacteria, but also take part in immune reactions, in the production of antibodies, etc. Macrophages are activated under the influence of substances that are formed in the inflammatory focus.

In inflammatory diseases, galavit temporarily (for 6-8 hours) suppresses the excessive synthesis of tumor necrosis factor alpha, the immune mediator of inflammation interleukin-1, and other inflammatory cytokines, which is excessively “promoted” by hyperactivated macrophages.

For reference: inflammatory cytokines are substances that ensure the interaction of immune cells in the midst of an inflammatory reaction and form the so-called. "inflammatory response" Normalization of the functional state of macrophages under the influence of Galavit reduces their level of autoaggression (direction of immune reactions against their own body). In addition, the drug directs the process of antibody production back to normal and activates the formation of its own interferons. Galavit increases the body's resistance to infectious diseases: it has confirmed its effectiveness in treating a number of bacterial and viral infections. The effect of the drug can be considered using the example of a severe sore throat, the signs of which are a sore throat, swelling and hyperemia of the tonsils, an increase in body temperature to 39 ° C and above, etc. Despite the use of antibacterial agents, the disease is severe and can lead to a whole “bouquet” of complications. The body “owes” the severity of the clinical picture to overly active macrophages, which, “excited” under the influence of inflammatory cytokines, “raised” the temperature bar to 39° C (while in the situation 37° C would have been enough). Galavit will “calm down” the raging macrophages for 6 hours, while normally functioning macrophages, having gained access to the inflammatory focus, will destroy the bacteria without unnecessary fuss.

Galavit is available in three dosage forms: suppositories, powder for the preparation of injection solution and sublingual tablets. Considering the many indications for which the drug can be prescribed, it is best to get acquainted with its dosage regimen and administration characteristics from the package insert or, more optimally, from the lips of the attending physician.

Galavit: indications and contraindications

Considering the immunomodulatory properties of this drug, it is recommended to use it as an anti-inflammatory agent in the following cases: - in the form of injections for viral hepatitis; - for infectious intestinal diseases; - for chronic herpetic diseases; — for diseases of the urogenital tract that are infectious in nature (chlamydial prostatitis, trichomonas etiology, chlamydial urethritis, etc.); - with recurrent furunculosis of a chronic nature; - with purulent-septic processes; - for acute respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis); - with inflammation, against the background of secondary immunodeficiency; — for the prevention of infectious diseases after surgery; - for oncological diseases.

Contraindications to the use of the drug are determined by the period of pregnancy and lactation. Also, this drug is not recommended for use in case of hypersensitivity to individual components included in the composition.

Storage conditions

Galavit in the form of tablets and suppositories is available without a doctor's prescription. You can buy the medicine at a pharmacy or order it online. The main thing is to check the integrity of the packaging and its expiration date when purchasing a product.

The medicine in the form of injections is dispensed only with a special prescription, which must be written by a doctor, and he also prescribes the dosage. The shelf life of injections is four years, and tablets and suppositories are three years. After the specified period, the medicine can no longer be used and should be thrown away.

Any form of this product should be stored in a cool place away from sunlight. The drug should not be in direct access to children. The medicine can be taken together with alcohol, but it must be taken into account that the effect of the drug will not be maximum, since alcohol will have a depressing effect on the body’s immune system.

Galavit: side effects

Despite the fact that the drug Galavit has mostly positive reviews, it does have side effects - it can cause various allergic reactions. This fact must be taken into account and the drug can be taken only after consulting with your doctor. In addition, before taking the drug, it is necessary to study the manufacturer's instructions, since this instruction is presented in a free translation, solely to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the drug.

How does the drug work?

The basis of Galavit is sodium aminodihydrophthalazindione. The synthetic component normalizes the functional state of macrophages. To clearly understand what this gives, you need to understand the mechanism of the immune system.

Monocytes, which make up 4-8% of the total number of white blood cells, are not very successful in fighting microbes. This is explained by immaturity. But when they enter the tissues from the bloodstream, transformation occurs. Monocytes increase in size and turn into macrophages, which absorb foreign protein, reject foreign grafts and form antibodies.

Destruction of tissue structure (due to inflammation) hyperactivates macrophages. “Excited” cells cannot cope with the task assigned to them. The use of Galavit helps macrophages to “cool down” and begin to more effectively destroy bacteria and viruses. As a result, the defensive function is restored and auto-aggression (self-destruction) is reduced. This is a condition in which cells of the immune system, instead of pathogenic flora, absorb their own kind.

Autoaggression is the cause of many diseases (autoimmune and rheumatoid arthritis, post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, autoimmune hepatitis, etc.).

The harm of excess inflammation was previously eliminated by taking glucocorticoids. Indeed, hormones reduce the inflammatory response, but suppress all parts of the immune system. Galavit acts “pointwise”, reacting to altered macrophages and without affecting healthy cells.

Thus, the medicine increases phagocytosis (uptake of enemy agents) and enhances nonspecific immunity to various diseases.

Galavit: price and sale

Galavit is a widely used drug, so you can buy Galavit in almost any pharmacy. In addition, the drug can be purchased by ordering online. When buying the drug Galavit, the price of which is almost the same everywhere, you can buy a fake, so it is strongly recommended not to buy it in person, and when purchasing, be sure to check the certificate, which must confirm the conformity of the product and the quality of the product.

From what age

Galavit preparations are prohibited for use in children under 6 years of age. From 6 to 12 years old, the use of Galavit in suppositories for children and injection powder is allowed. It contains 50 mg of the active ingredient. The use of tablets and products with higher concentrations is strictly permitted after reaching the age of 12.

Galavit and Transfer factor

Galavit, the price of which is about 1000 rubles per bottle of injection solution or 300 rubles for 20 tablets, is a fairly expensive drug. Figures say that the cost of treatment with Galavit for a patient will cost from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles, and there is no guarantee that the result of treatment will be achieved in a short time. There is a high probability that courses of treatment with Galavit, instructions for which must be included, will have to be repeated several times, and this, accordingly, requires even greater costs. It makes no sense to remain silent about the presence of side effects of the drug, which will undoubtedly have to be eliminated, which indicates additional investment. The drug Transfer Factor, which performs the same functions, costs about 2,000 rubles per package of 90 capsules. This drug does not have any side effects. It is completely safe, non-addictive and has no age restrictions. The mechanism of the drug’s effect on the human body is much deeper and more effective than other medications, including Galavit. Transfer factor has the unique ability to provide the immune system with information and repair problems in damaged DNA structure, which leads to the elimination of the cause of the disease, while other known drugs only try to treat the disease. If you still decide to take Galavit, Transfer Factor will help restore the microflora and neutralize the side effects of the drug Galavit.

Analogues of Galavit

The price of Galavit is quite high, so many patients try to replace this drug with its cheap analogues. At the moment, the medicine has no direct analogues, but you can still find medicines with similar effects on sale.

Today, one of the beneficial substitutes for Galavit is Estifan. These two drugs have the same pharmaceutical subgroup and similar indications for use, but they differ in the active components in their composition. Estifan is available in the form of tablets, and it costs from 100 rubles per pack.

Other analogues include the following drugs:

  • Echinacea;
  • Cycloferon;
  • Amiksin;
  • Immunal;
  • Lavomax;
  • Immunoflazid;
  • Rhinital;
  • Panagen;
  • Stemokin;
  • Helixor.

In terms of active substance, a substitute for Galavit is the drug Tamerit. This medicine belongs to the immunomodulators. It is available in powder form for preparing a solution.

During pregnancy

The medicine in the field of gynecology is used widely for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases (be it endometritis along with endometriosis, salpingo-oophoritis and others). True, as noted above, many dosage forms of this medication are not used when a woman is pregnant, especially in the first trimester, during feeding. This is directly related to the fact that clinical studies of the drug have not been conducted on this matter, so there is no data on its benefits or negative effects on the fetus. Sometimes doctors may prescribe rectal suppositories of this medicine. But they do this only when the benefits outweigh the possible risks.

The drug in question should not be used independently during pregnancy under any circumstances. It is also necessary to remember that Galavit suppositories are not used vaginally. In gynecology, they are more suitable for preparing for pregnancy. In order for it to proceed without any pathologies, immediately before planning a replenishment, you should undergo a course of treatment for chronic infectious diseases of the reproductive system (if any). “Galavit” is perfect for these purposes. The cost of a medicinal drug will directly depend on the prescribed therapeutic course.
