Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Maxicold Lor is a spray for topical use. Along with analgesic, enveloping, deodorizing properties, the drug has an antiseptic effect, exhibiting antimicrobial and antifungal activity.

The mechanism of the antimicrobial action of the spray is due to its ability to suppress the oxidative reactions of bacterial metabolism. The concentration of the drug allows it to be active against a wide range of strains of bacteria and fungal infections, including gram-positive bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, fungi of the genus Candida and Proteus spp., without causing the development of resistance.

Spraying the drug into the oral cavity causes slight anesthesia of the mucous membrane.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of Maxicold Lor into the systemic circulation is practically absent.

Traces of hexetidine on the gum mucosa are detected within 65 hours after a single use of the drug. The concentration of the active substance in dental plaques remains active for 10–14 hours.

Therapeutic effect and effect on the body

Maxicold spray is an antiseptic used topically. The medicine is applied to the mucous membrane and has a number of effects, including:

  • Antimicrobial
  • Deodorant
  • Anesthetic
  • Antifungal
  • Enveloping.

The antimicrobial effect of Maxicold is due to the prevention of oxidative reactions caused by bacterial metabolism.

After a single irrigation of the oral cavity, the local effect exerted by the active substance, hexethidine, can last about 11 hours. There is practically no absorption of the drug from the surface of the mucous membrane. Due to this property, the medicine does not have a systemic effect on the body.

Indications for use

  • infectious and inflammatory pathologies of the oral cavity and pharynx, including tonsillitis, Plaut-Vincent sore throat, pharyngitis, glossitis, stomatitis, aphthous ulcers, gingivitis, periodontitis, periodontopathies, alveolitis, periodontal disease, bleeding gums;

Pharmacodynamics

Maxicold is a throat spray that has a pronounced antiseptic, antimicrobial, antifungal, and analgesic effect. At the same time, it has a deodorizing and enveloping effect.

The effect of the drug is due to the inhibition of oxidative processes, the development of which is associated with metabolic processes in microorganisms. Thanks to a wide spectrum of activity, an antifungal and antibacterial effect is achieved. Thus, the medicine is effective against gram-positive microflora and candida fungus.

The drug also has a therapeutic effect against infectious diseases caused by the activity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Proteus. Resistance to the drug in microorganisms was not observed. The medication is capable of providing a mild local analgesic effect.

With a single use, the effect of the drug continues for the next 10-12 hours.

Reviews

The drug "Maxicold Lor" receives mostly positive reviews. Many patients note its high effectiveness along with its low cost. The drug can be used to treat children starting from three years of age. It is well tolerated by young patients and does not cause adverse reactions.

Some consumers note that the drug is no different from its analogues. They use it because it is inexpensive. The medication is equipped with a convenient sprayer and is easy to use. Some patients say that one can lasts for a year and a half with infrequent use.

The medicine has a pleasant aroma and taste. It's not bitter. This is especially true for children who do not like to take medications because of their unpleasant taste. When using the spray three times a day, relief occurs on the third day. But some people note that the effect after using the spray only lasts for six hours.

There are also negative reviews about the drug, but there are very few of them. Some patients say that the spray is inconvenient to use, since the sprayer does not work well. It also has a strong taste, which not everyone likes. Some people experience watery eyes and increased salivation. But perhaps this is due to individual intolerance to the active substance. After some time, bitterness begins to appear in the mouth, and sometimes nausea occurs. In addition, the effect of the drug is observed for only a few hours, then all the unpleasant symptoms of the throat disease return.

Thus, the drug "Maxicold Lor" has an acceptable cost and is effective for the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity. But it is best to use it in complex therapy of pathologies. Doctors often prescribe it to their patients. Relief occurs within ten minutes after using the spray and lasts about six hours, so it is recommended to use it three times a day. Some doctors say that the spray is not used as an independent remedy for severe sore throat. For example, if you have a sore throat, it is better to take additional tablets.
