pharmachologic effect

The main effect of the drug is anti-inflammatory. It is provided due to the content of substances in chamomile - azulene and luteolin. Azulene activates the production of adenocorticotropic hormone, blocks the synthesis of serotonin and histamine, helps reduce the severity of pericapillary edema and reduces the permeability of microcirculatory vessels. Luteolin blocks the release of arachidonic acid and prostaglandins, which are triggers of inflammation.

Rotokan also has pronounced effects:

  1. Antiseptic. Achieved thanks to ethyl alcohol and chamomile flowers. These components destroy the cell wall of most gram-positive bacteria and lead to their subsequent death.
  2. Regenerative. The components of Rotokan accelerate the restoration of epithelial cells of the mucous membranes. According to large studies, affected areas, including ulcerative defects, epithelialize 30% faster.
  3. Antispasmodic. All the herbs described have a sedative effect. Against the background of general relaxation, the tone of the smooth muscles of the internal organs decreases. Apigenin contained in chamomile has a direct M-anticholinergic effect. As a result, some of the synapses of the efferent nerve fibers are switched off and the smooth myocytes relax.
  4. Hemostatic. The drug increases the tone of small peripheral vessels and helps not only reduce permeability, but also stop bleeding. Ineffective for massive blood loss.
  5. Anesthetic. Achieved through antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects. Reducing swelling and creating conditions unsuitable for the proliferation of pathogenic bacterial flora eliminate the cause of pain.

Reviews

The drug has a huge number of positive reviews with a nebulizer. The solution helps moisten the cough. The procedure is widely used in both children and adults.

Despite the contraindications indicated in the instructions, parents very often use this solution to treat inflammatory processes in children.

Gargling with a solution is actively used for sore throat. Rotokan helps to improve the patient's condition in a short time.

In addition, the medicine is actively used in gynecology in the form of douching. Thanks to the combination of anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, the drug actively fights various diseases.

There are also reviews about taking this drug for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract . Among the positive aspects, people note the high effectiveness of the drug, as well as the low cost of the drug. In negative reviews, patients complain about side effects that caused discomfort to some.

Indications for use

Rotocan is widely used in various fields of medicine as part of combination therapy, as it potentiates the effect of many medications. Motor therapy with the drug is not effective. In gastroenterology it is indicated for the treatment of pathologies such as:

  1. Gastritis.
  2. Gastroduodenitis.
  3. Peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.
  4. Gastroesophageal reflux.
  5. Esophagitis.
  6. Enteritis. Only chronic forms of bacterial or autoimmune etiology.
  7. Chronic colitis.
  8. Crohn's disease.
  9. Nonspecific ulcerative colitis.
  10. Proctitis.
  11. Cholecystitis.
  12. Condition after removal of the gallbladder.

In dentistry and otolaryngology it is used to treat the following pathologies:

  1. Aphthous stomatitis is an inflammation of the oral mucosa with many ulcerative defects.
  2. Ulcerative necrotic stomatitis. Only for purulent forms and complications in the form of osteomyelitis of the facial skeleton.
  3. Gingivitis.
  4. Periodontitis.
  5. A prophylactic remedy after dental operations (tooth extraction, gum suturing, etc.).
  6. Rhinitis without involvement of the paranasal sinuses.
  7. Aphthous stomatitis.

For diseases of the oral cavity, including stomatitis, Rotokan is used by application or rinsing.

Inhalation administration of the drug in pulmonary practice is also recommended for:

  • Acute respiratory diseases of the upper respiratory tract, caused predominantly by bacterial flora;
  • Chronic bronchitis (including with signs of respiratory failure);
  • Interstitial pneumonia.

Indications and contraindications

Rotokan is prescribed for:

  • pustular formations;
  • stomatitis and ulcers;
  • periodontal disease and gingivitis.

Rotokan for rinsing gums is also used to prevent infection from entering the mucosal cells during wound mechanical damage - bites, tooth root removal and other dental procedures. The remedy is also prescribed after cleaning the crown from tartar.

Contraindications

  • with alcohol addiction;
  • pregnancy/lactation;
  • allergy to plant materials;
  • brain injuries;
  • minor children.

Rotokan during pregnancy: rinse the gums with extreme caution so as not to harm the fetus.

Contraindications

Despite the relative safety and composition of plant origin, the use of the drug is not recommended in the following situations:

  1. Hypersensitivity to individual components of the drug. It is forbidden to use Rotokan if you have previously had allergic reactions to ethyl alcohol, chamomile and calendula flowers, or yarrow herb.
  2. Proliferative pathologies in the area of contact with the drug (for tumors of the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract, it is prohibited to take the drug orally and topically). The active substances increase the activity of division of mutated cells.
  3. Any diseases of the liver and gallbladder, kidney pathologies with severe renal failure (stage 2 chronic renal failure and higher), as well as glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis. Restrictions are imposed only on the use of medicinal enemas with Rotokan.
  4. Pregnancy period. Yarrow herb has a stimulating effect on the ovaries. As a result, estrogen production increases. The hyperestrogenic background disrupts the normal development of the child (large fetus, anomalies and malformations), worsens the general condition of the mother (promotes nausea and vomiting, the appearance of edema, the development of preeclampsia) and negatively affects the upcoming birth (increases the risk of premature birth, labor anomalies, uterine bleeding, premature abruption of a normally located placenta). Ethanol has a pronounced direct teratogenic effect: changes in facial features (small head, flat face, transformation of the architectonics of the head of the skeleton), birth defects (from the skeleton, cardiovascular and urinary systems, organ of vision). 10 ml of pure ethanol can provoke premature onset of labor, fetal growth arrest, and miscarriage. Sedative and antispasmodic effects reduce the tone of the uterus, increase the risk of premature dilation of the cervix and weakness of labor during childbirth.
  5. Breast-feeding. Ethanol can enter the baby's body through breast milk. To avoid alcohol intoxication, the development of addiction and toxic effects on the organs of a newborn, Rotocan cannot be used during lactation.

It is important! For external use of the drug during pregnancy or lactation, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Rotokan contains ethanol, therefore during pregnancy the solution can be used only after consultation with your doctor.

The medication is completely contraindicated in children under 13 years of age due to possible high allergic activity.

Contraindications and side effects

For children over 12 years of age, Rotokan is prescribed exclusively by a doctor.

The drug has age restrictions; it is not prescribed to children under 12 years of age.

Contraindications also apply to people who have allergies to the components of the anti-inflammatory drug.

In the standard instructions for use of the drug Rotokan, pregnancy and breastfeeding are not included in the list of contraindications.

However, according to experts, at this stage it is worth limiting the use of the drug internally.

This is explained by the ethanol content, which has a negative effect on the development of the fetus, as does any alcohol. But using Rotokan to prepare a solution for gargling is quite acceptable.

It is important to take into account that the dosage should be minimal (3-4 ml of product per glass of water). You can also add a small amount of the drug to the inhaler for procedures. The effectiveness of rinsing and inhalation is not inferior to internal administration of the medicine.

For children over 12 years of age, Rotokan is prescribed exclusively by a doctor.

The dosage is minimal so as not to provoke a negative reaction of the body - itching, hives and even anaphylactic shock. From 3 to 12 years, a weakly concentrated solution can be used to gargle.

If the rules for taking Rotokan or dosage are violated, as well as with increased sensitivity, side effects may occur.

Among the main ones:

  • redness of the skin;
  • allergy;
  • itching;
  • hives;
  • angioedema;
  • anaphylactic shock.

Side effects

In most cases (99.9%), the medication is well tolerated. All adverse reactions are associated with immediate hypersensitivity and may manifest as the following conditions:

  1. Urticaria is the rapid development of a rash with papular rashes over the entire surface of the skin. After 30-120 minutes from the onset of the disease, the papules are replaced by blisters with transparent contents that tend to merge. May affect mucous membranes. It usually goes away on its own within 24 hours.
  2. Isolated skin itching. It is characterized by itching in limited areas of the skin (in 80% of cases) or on the entire surface of the body. Damage caused by scratching can become infected.
  3. Anaphylactic shock is a rapid (within 5-15 minutes) decrease in the tone of large vessels, leading to a decrease in total peripheral resistance and a drop in blood pressure. The person quickly loses consciousness, the heart rate increases, breathing may be impaired (frequent shallow or pathological, for example, Cheyne-Stokes). Externally, the skin is pale with a marbled tint and a lot of cold, sticky sweat, acrocyanosis is observed. Multiple organ failure is rapidly increasing against the background of hypoxia of all tissues.
  4. Angioedema (Quincke's edema) is the development of edema of tissues with developed subcutaneous fat. In typical cases, the eyelids, lips, and neck are affected. It can spread to the mucous membrane of the larynx and cause breathing problems due to obstruction of the airway. The condition worsens sharply (noisy breathing, the face turns blue), and a hypercapnic coma and then death may occur.

Rotocan, as a herbal remedy, can lead to only one side effect - an allergic reaction, which can manifest itself in the form of, for example, urticaria

It is important! If any allergic reaction develops, you should immediately stop using the drug. The appearance of clinical signs of angioedema or anaphylactic shock requires an emergency call to an emergency medical team.

First aid for the development of adverse reactions

If symptoms of urticaria appear, you should:

  1. Take second and third generation antihistamines. Loratadine or Cetirezine are suitable. Both drugs block histamine H1 receptors, which stops the release of histamine, which causes swelling, mucus hypersecretion and smooth muscle spasm. Loratadine is taken 1 tablet (0.01) per day, orally. Cetirezin – 1 tablet (0.005) 1 time per day orally. The duration of further treatment is at least 30 days.
  2. Ensure complete rest.
  3. Prescribe a hypoallergenic diet with the exclusion from the diet of spicy, fried foods, spices, citrus fruits, coffee and cocoa, dairy products, any fruits and vegetables that have a bright red or orange color (red apples, radishes, tomatoes, etc.).

At the first symptoms of an allergic reaction, it is necessary to remove allergenic foods from the diet.

If your body temperature rises, your blood pressure drops, or you have arthralgia, you should immediately consult a doctor.

For anaphylactic shock:

  1. Rinse the mucous membranes of the mouth or nose with running water and drop a few drops of a 1% adrenaline solution into the nose and throat. You can use any drops containing adrenergic agonists (for example, Xylene - drops for the treatment of a runny nose).
  2. If the solution gets into the stomach, you need to urgently rinse it and take any absorbent. For example, activated carbon (1 tablet for every 10 kg of body weight).
  3. Place the patient on his side. It is desirable that the legs are higher than the level of the upper half of the body. Turn your head to the side and extend your lower jaw.
  4. Provide fresh air flow.
  5. Warm the patient by covering them with hot water bottles.

In parallel with providing first aid, you need to call a team of doctors. Further treatment will take place in the intensive care unit.

For Quincke's edema, the algorithm for helping is somewhat different:

  1. Rinse the mucous membranes of the nose or mouth with plenty of water. Similarly, instill a 1% solution of adrenaline.
  2. If the solution gets into the stomach, use an adsorbent - activated carbon.
  3. Sit the patient down, remove outer clothing or unfasten it. This is necessary to make breathing as easy as possible.
  4. Provide fresh air flow.

It is necessary to urgently call an ambulance. The patient is sent to the intensive care unit.

It is important! You should not rinse your stomach against the background of Quincke's edema! With increasing swelling of the upper respiratory tract, the patient may choke on his own vomit.

Directions for use and doses

The drug can be used in various ways:

  • Locally;
  • Orally;
  • Rectally.

Each route of administration has its own specific characteristics. It is not recommended to use a concentrated solution; you need to dilute it with clean distilled or boiled water.

For gargling

For the treatment of sore throat or tonsillitis 1 tsp. (5 ml) of the medicine is dissolved in 200 ml (1 glass) of warm water. If the drug is well tolerated, the concentration can be increased to 2-3 tsp. per 200 ml of liquid. The ideal water temperature is about 40-45 degrees.

The drug has found wide use for sore throat, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.

With the resulting solution you need to rinse the pharynx for 2-3 minutes 3-5 times a day. After irrigating the throat, it is recommended not to eat food for 30 minutes.

For dental diseases

In dental practice, the concentration of the solution is similar (1 tsp per 200 ml of warm water).

For stomatitis and other infectious and inflammatory diseases of oral cavity formations, cotton or gauze swabs are moistened in Rotokan solution and applied as applications to the affected areas. Duration – about 20-25 minutes. After which the tampon is removed. Duration of treatment – up to 7 days, 3-4 applications per day.

In case of periodontitis, after destruction of tartar or plaque, scraping of pockets between the gum and tooth, tampons soaked in a medicinal solution are inserted under the gum for 25-30 minutes. You need to perform 6 procedures over 6 days (1 time per day).

For oral and rectal use

For diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract (above the level of the duodenum), Rotocan is administered orally. You should use 80-130 ml of solution (1 tsp per 200 ml of water) 2-4 times a day. The total duration of treatment is no more than 10 days.

When setting microenemas 1 tsp. Rotocan is diluted in 70-100 ml. warm boiled water. Placement is performed 1-2 times a day after bowel movement (natural bowel movement). The maximum duration of therapy is up to 20 days.

For inhalation using a nebulizer

A compression or ultrasonic nebulizer is suitable for inhalation procedures.

The principle of operation of the nebulizer is based on dispersed spraying of the drug, which is delivered into the throat through a mask.

To prepare a medicinal solution with a concentration of 1:20, you need to dilute 1 tsp. Rotocan in 100 ml of physiological solution - NaCl 0.9%. After filling the flask (3-4 ml of the drug) and installing it in the nebulizer, you need to put on a mask and deeply inhale the supplied air with many small vapor particles until the solution runs out (about 10 minutes).

The therapeutic dose for this method is 12 ml, divided into 3 procedures.
