Among other things, metoclopramide affects the nervous autonomic system. Thanks to this effect, he can:
- strengthen the muscle tone of the intestines, stomach and lower esophageal sphincter;
- reduce esophageal motor activity;
- improve intestinal motility;
- accelerate the movement of food along the digestive tract;
- promote the release of bile;
- reduce hiccups;
- reduce dyskinesia of the bile ducts and gallbladder;
- reduce hyperacid stasis;
- weaken the spasm of the sphincter of Oddi, which is located in the area where the bile duct exits into the duodenum.
Antiemetic injections "Cerukal" do not affect the production of bile and pancreatic enzymes, gastric juice in the human body.
Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Cerucal injections are not prescribed to women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy, since there is no information about how the drug affects the intrauterine development of the fetus and there is no experience in using this drug in obstetrics.
The use of Cerucal injection solution for women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy is possible according to indications, but only in situations where the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risks to the fetus. Treatment is carried out under the supervision of a doctor.

The medication for duodenal and gastric intubation helps to relax the muscles of the esophagus and stomach, which facilitates the diagnostic procedure. Before an X-ray examination, Cerucal can also be prescribed, since it allows you to quickly empty the stomach and remove its contents into the duodenum.
The medicine is almost ineffective for vomiting, the causes of which are psychogenic and vestibular factors. Thus, it would be pointless to take this medication for motion sickness syndrome.

- gastric pyloric stenosis;
- pheochromocytoma;
- bleeding of the stomach and intestines;
- intestinal obstruction;
- age up to two years;
- history of seizures and epilepsy;
- perforation of the gastrointestinal tract.
The drug is prescribed very carefully to people who suffer from arterial hypo- or hypertension, liver failure, Parkinson's disease, bronchial asthma, and patients over 65 years of age. If kidney function is reduced, the drug is prescribed in a reduced amount.
When not to

- glaucoma;

With prolonged treatment, some elderly patients, adolescents and children (if the dosage of 0.5 mg/kg per day is exceeded) may develop parkinsonism (limited mobility, muscle twitching, tremor). Elderly patients with chronic kidney failure are likely to develop tardive dyskinesia.
Also, in isolated situations, neuroleptic malignant syndrome may develop (characteristic symptoms: increased blood pressure, changes in consciousness, muscle contracture, fever).
Hematopoietic system: agranulocytosis.
Cardiovascular system: increased or decreased pressure, supraventricular tachycardia.
Gastrointestinal tract: diarrhea, dry mouth, constipation.
Endocrine system: if the drug is used for a long time, in rare cases, gynecomastia may occur, that is, enlargement of the mammary glands in men, galactorrhea (milk spontaneously leaking from the mammary glands) or abnormalities in the menstrual cycle. If such phenomena develop, the drug should be discontinued.

How long does it take and how does it work?
After the drug has been injected into the muscle, it acts within 10-15 minutes.
If you inject the active substance intravenously, the effect will develop after 1-3 minutes, almost immediately after the injection.
The duration of the injection is half an hour after intravenous administration and 1.5-2 hours after intramuscular administration.
The main purpose of the medicine is to block the gag reflex.

In order to dilute the product in ampoules, the most optimal option is used - a 5% glucose solution or sodium chloride. If the injection is given into a muscle, the drug is not diluted with anything beforehand.

- "No-Shpa" is often prescribed simultaneously with "Cerucal". It can be taken at any time during pregnancy, as it not only does not increase uterine tone, but also reduces it. Like Cerucal, it is one of the means of symptomatic treatment and prevention. “No-Spa” allows you to eliminate spasms to a greater extent and reduce the intensity of pain attacks. Both drugs are produced in the form of solutions for intramuscular administration and tablets. "No-Shpa" does not affect the activity of the central nervous system, reduces intestinal motility and dilates blood vessels. Its main component is drotaverine hydrochloride.
- "Ganaton." This is a foreign-made analogue of “Cerucal”, the active component of which is itopride, which belongs to the group of drugs for the stomach and intestines that stimulate motility. "Ganaton" is also indicated in the treatment of dyspeptic non-ulcer disorders, which are characterized by nausea, flatulence, vomiting and heartburn. Both drugs are dopamine receptor antagonists. "Ganaton" differs from "Cerucal" in that it has fewer side effects.

The drug solution includes the active substance in the form of metoclopramide hydrochloride.
