Danazol
- a drug, a synthetic androgen.
pharmachologic effect
An antigonadotropic agent, which is a synthetic androgen derived from ethisterone. Suppresses the production of gonadotropic hormones LH and FSH by the pituitary gland in men and women. In women, it inhibits ovarian activity, inhibits ovulation, and causes endometrial atrophy. The action is reversible, devoid of estrogenic or gestagenic effects, in high doses it has weak androgenic activity with a concomitant anabolic effect. In endometriosis, it damages both normal and ectopic endometrial tissue, leading to its inactivation and atrophy. Reduces pain accompanying endometriosis and causes regressive changes in endometriotic lesions. Has an immunosuppressive effect and inhibits lymphocyte proliferation in vitro
. Significantly reduces the level of Ig and the production of autoantibodies in patients with endometriosis. In fibrocystic mastopathy, it promotes the partial or complete disappearance of nodular seals and complete relief of pain. Clinical effectiveness in hereditary angioedema may be due to an increase in the content of the C1 esterase inhibitor (congenital deficiency of which is characteristic of this disease) and, as a result, an increase in the plasma level of the C4 complement component.
special instructions
During the period of use of Danazol, liver function should be regularly examined, including determination of the number of peripheral blood cells and liver enzymes.
It is important to know that the drug affects laboratory parameters of sex hormones (increases testosterone levels, etc.).
Therapy with the drug in patients with thrombosis, kidney or liver disease, migraine, cardiovascular diseases and conditions accompanied by epilepsy, impaired lipoprotein metabolism and fluid retention should be carried out under close medical supervision.
When prescribing Danazol to patients with diabetes mellitus, insulin dosage adjustment is necessary.
It should be taken into account that the drug increases the concentration of glucagon in the blood plasma, enhances the effect of indanedione derivatives and coumarin anticoagulants, as well as:
- Increases the concentration of antiepileptic drugs in the blood and suppresses their metabolism;
- Weakens the effect of oral hypoglycemic drugs and insulin;
- Reduces the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs;
- Increases the concentration of tacrolimus and cyclosporine in the blood plasma.
Dosage regimen
Inside. Treatment begins on the first day of the menstrual cycle. Adults: 200-800 mg/day in 2-4 doses. For endometriosis, the initial daily dose is 400 mg, subsequently up to 800 mg, the course of treatment is 6 months; as preoperative preparation - 300-400 mg/day 1-2 months before surgery. For benign diseases of the mammary gland - 100-300 mg daily for 3-6 months; for primary menorrhagia and premenstrual syndrome - 100-400 mg/day, course of treatment - 3 months; for gynecomastia in men - 200-600 mg/day. To prevent angioedema, the initial dose is 200 mg, followed by a reduction (in the absence of exacerbations) for 1-3 months. Children: with premature puberty - 100-400 mg daily, depending on the age and condition of the patient.
Instructions for use Danol (Danazol):
Danol (Danazol) is a drug that belongs to the class of sex hormones and drugs that affect the genital area.
The medication suppresses the production of gonadotropic hormones, slows down ovarian function and inhibits ovulation. The active substance reduces the concentration of female sex hormones, as a result of which endometrial malignancy atrophies in the body. Danol (Danazol) destroys ectopic zones, reduces areas damaged by malignant formation. Danol (Danazol) also reduces pain, reduces the formation of new cells and intracellular structures of red blood cells.
You can buy the medicine in the form of film-coated capsules in dosages of 100 mg and 200 mg. The price of Danol (Danazol) depends on the manufacturer and dosage. You can buy the medication on our website.

Symptoms
Headache, dizziness, tremor, convulsions, nausea, vomiting.
Treatment
Gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy.
Indications and contraindications:
Prescribed by your doctor for the following problems:
- Benign formations in the breast (fibroadenoma, fibrocystic mastopathy).
- Heavy bleeding during menstruation, also called primary menorrhagia.
- Premature sexual development.
- Enlargement of the mammary gland with hypertrophy of glands and adipose tissue.
- Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare, life-threatening disease that belongs to the group of primary immunodeficiencies. The reason is an insufficiency of the general level or a decrease in the functional activity of the C1 inhibitor of the complement system.
Danol (Danazol) is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the active substance and its other components. Do not take for breast cancer, porphyrin disease, cancer developing from epithelial tissue cells, androgen-dependent malignancies, vaginal bleeding of unknown origin, renal, liver, or heart failure, pulmonary embolism.

If the patient becomes pregnant during therapy, the drug is completely excluded from the course of therapy, and the woman is informed of the possible risk to the fetus.
Side effects
The instructions for Danazol indicate that the drug may cause side effects from certain body systems, namely:
- Increased sweating, vaginitis, changes in libido, amenorrhea, acne, reduction in the size of the mammary glands, weight gain, flushing of the face, deepening of the voice, nervousness, spermatogenesis disorders, increased secretion of the sebaceous glands, emotional lability, edema, androgenetic alopecia and minor hirsutism ( endocrine system);
