Reviews

Arseniy M .: “I started taking Deprim due to the fact that I often have a low mood. I can't say it's depression. More likely, just periodic blues, like the one that happens in the fall. I decided to take a course of the drug. I took it for a month, three tablets a day. I can’t say that I noticed a pronounced effect. My mood, it seemed to me, remained at the same level, but I began to sleep noticeably better. You may need to take Deprim longer to feel the effects.”

Ekaterina A .: “I suffer from increased anxiety, I have many phobias and often have a bad mood. I have been going to see a psychotherapist for a long time. I don’t want to switch to heavy antidepressants, since I lead an active lifestyle, drive and work. The doctor prescribed Deprim for me, and I was pleased with the result. The anxiety disappeared from about the second week of use, in addition, the mood remained at a constant level. Calm - that's how I would describe it. There is no drowsiness or lethargy, I will continue taking the drug.”

Doctor's review : “Deprim is one of those drugs that I would advise prescribing to patients with mild disorders. Mild anxiety, mild depression, non-pathologically low mood. Since taking antidepressants may cause more harm than good in these cases, herbal remedies like Deprima are the medications of choice. This drug has proven itself in the fight against mild forms of depression. My patients experienced virtually no side effects while using it.”

Pharmacological properties

Deprim is a herbal medicine with antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Its active ingredient - extract of the herb St. John's wort - contains flavonoids, pseudohypericin, hypericin, hyperforin, which improve the functional state of the autonomic and central nervous system. Deprim improves mood and provides greater physical and mental activity.

Pharmacodynamics

The pharmacodynamics of Deprim are currently not well studied.

Pharmacokinetics

There is no information on the pharmacokinetics of the drug.

pharmachologic effect

The action of Deprim is based on increasing the influence of dopaminergic structures and decreasing noradrenergic ones. The fact is that the neurotransmitter dopamine is responsible for a person’s good mood. It is found in nerve cells of the brain, where it is synthesized and participates in signal transmission between neurons. With the help of dopamine, those brain structures that are responsible for happiness and good mood are activated.

This mediator has one more function. It is a precursor to norepinephrine. Norepinephrine, like adrenaline, is a stress mediator. Their concentration in the blood increases when dangerous situations arise and causes a feeling of anxiety. With the help of a specific enzyme, dopamine is converted into norepinephrine in the brain. This contributes to both a decrease in mood and an increase in anxiety.

Deprim blocks the enzyme responsible for the transition of dopamine to norepinephrine. At the same time, the concentration of dopamine increases, since it is less utilized. The concentration of norepinephrine, on the contrary, decreases because it is synthesized less. This mechanism causes two effects: an increase in mood and a decrease in anxiety.

Instructions for use of Deprim: method and dosage

Deprim should be taken orally with water.

Children over 12 years of age and adults are usually prescribed 1 tablet 3 times a day (regularly at the same time). Children 6-12 years old can take the drug 1-2 tablets (in the morning and evening) under medical supervision.

The therapeutic effect appears within 10-14 days from the start of therapy. The optimal effect from regular use of Deprim is usually achieved within several weeks.

If a dose is missed, it should be taken as quickly as possible. You should not take an additional dose to compensate for a missed dose.

Dosage regimen

Regardless of the severity of the pathology, the minimum therapeutic dosage for adults is 180 mg of the active substance, which is divided evenly into three doses. If such therapy is ineffective, the dose can be increased gradually by 60 mg until a sedative effect is achieved.

The maximum permissible dosage is 360 mg of active substance per day. This corresponds to 6 Deprim tablets. For children, the minimum dose is 60 mg, the maximum is 120 mg. In the second case, it is divided into two doses. The drug is not prescribed to children under 6 years of age.

Deprim is available in pharmacies without a doctor's prescription.

Overdose

Acute intoxication with Deprim in humans has not been recorded. Signs of overdose include drowsiness, lethargy, general weakness, and greater severity of side effects depending on the dose taken. There are reports of the appearance of confusion and the development of convulsive seizures after taking a dose of Deprim not exceeding 4.5 g daily for 2 weeks and taking an additional 15 g of the drug immediately before admission to the hospital. With significant overdoses, phototoxic reactions sometimes develop.

In this case, the drug is discontinued and activated carbon is prescribed. It is also recommended to avoid sun exposure and UV exposure for 1-2 weeks. Outdoor activities should be limited as much as possible and clothing and/or products that protect the skin from sunlight should be used.

Side effects

Deprim often causes allergic reactions. In addition, in some people it increases the body's sensitivity to animal dander and other allergens. Skin rashes often occur, especially after exposure to the sun.

From the central nervous system, both reactions of excitation (insomnia, anxiety) and depression (drowsiness, fatigue) are possible. In addition, digestive disorders are possible: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Anorexia occurs less frequently. Patients with bipolar disorder may experience a manic episode.

Overall, studies have shown that Deprim has fewer side effects than other antidepressants.
