The drug "Ferezol" for the removal of papillomas and warts

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Feresol has a cauterizing, bactericidal and mummifying effect. The mechanism of its action is the irreversible coagulation of proteins included in the vital structures of the microorganism, resulting in the loss of their functions and further death.

Feresol affects microorganisms of bacterial, viral and fungal origin, as well as protozoa. The cauterizing effect of the drug is due to the destruction of macromolecules of skin cells and mucous membranes. By interacting with body tissues, Feresol provokes chemical burns.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug acts locally and does not penetrate the systemic circulation, therefore there are no data on the pharmacokinetics of Feresol.

Contraindications to the use of Feresol

Moles cannot be removed with Feresol

Moles cannot be removed with Feresol!

The use of the solution is associated with some restrictions. Feresol for papillomas and warts should not be used:

  1. When treating preschool children . Contraindications are related to the structural features of the skin. The dermis is thin, blood supply and metabolic processes are accelerated. High likelihood of developing allergic reactions. When contacted with healthy areas, chemical burns occur; the active components are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and can cause general intoxication.
  2. To remove birthmarks. In this case, the size and structure of the nevus do not matter. Trauma to the surface of moles can contribute to their degeneration into a malignant form and trigger the development of melanoma, the most dangerous form of cancer.
  3. For treating a large area of skin . If papillomatosis is severe, then problem areas are treated one by one. You cannot apply the solution to a surface larger than 20 cm2 - in this case, there is a high probability of toxins entering the bloodstream and spreading throughout the body.
  4. For the treatment of mucous membranes . Feresol is not used for warts and papillomas localized on the lips and around the mouth, on the eyelids, in the nasal and ear passages.
  5. Together with other topical medications . After treatment with a caustic solution, no other ointments or liquids are applied.
  6. Under a plaster or gauze bandage . The greenhouse effect increases the risk of chemical burns, the development of an allergic reaction and general intoxication of the body.

Genital warts in the intimate area during pregnancy and papillomas on the chest during lactation are not removed. However, “special conditions” are not absolute contraindications for the use of Feresol. You should consult your doctor about the possibility of its use.

Important! If negative reactions occur - itching, irritation or rashes - in places of contact with the skin, the use of Feresol to remove papillomas should be abandoned. Most often, allergies are caused by phenol, which is part of the solution.

Directions for use and dosage

The drug is intended for external use only.

The solution is applied with a thin wooden stick exactly to the treated area of skin. Feresol should not be allowed to come into contact with adjacent healthy areas, as well as mucous membranes.

For filiform warts and papillomas less than 2 mm in size, the drug is applied once. Warts 2–3 mm in size and papillomas more than 2 mm in diameter are smeared 3–4 times at short intervals necessary for the applied solution to dry.

Before removing dry calluses, plantar warts, keratomas and keratinized warts on the hands, horny layers should be removed from their surface. For this purpose, the area to be treated is lubricated with any keratolytic ointment (for example, 10% salicylic ointment), covered with plastic film or compress paper, and a gauze bandage is applied on top or sealed with an adhesive plaster. After some time, the bandage or adhesive plaster is removed, the skin is steamed in hot soapy soda water for 10–15 minutes, after which the horny layers are removed using nail scissors or tongs. After drying the skin, Feresol is applied several times, taking breaks of 3-4 minutes to allow the drug to dry after each application.

Dry calluses and keratomas are treated 3-4 times at intervals of 3-4 minutes, plantar warts and warts on the hands - 7-10 times at intervals of 3-4 minutes.

If Feresol is to be applied repeatedly, it is recommended to lubricate the surrounding skin with zinc paste to avoid burns to healthy areas. After the last portion of the solution has dried, it is necessary to remove the zinc paste with a dry gauze swab.

It is not advisable to remove genital warts on your own. They are treated with a solution of the drug in a clinic setting. The procedure is performed by a dermatovenerologist or urologist. Feresol is applied 1-2 times to each element separately. The interval between applications is 3–4 minutes.

If necessary, 6–8 days after the crust has dried and fallen off, re-treatment is carried out. In total, no more than 4–5 procedures are allowed.

Before removing warts with a dense keratinized surface on the hands, plantar warts, keratomas, and dry calluses with Feresol, it is necessary to remove horny layers from their surface. To do this, apply a keratolytic ointment (for example, 10% salicylic or other) for several hours, covering the lubricated area with compress paper or plastic film, and then use a gauze bandage. Possible sealing with adhesive tape. After which the bandage or adhesive plaster is removed, the skin is steamed in hot water with the addition of soap and soda for 10-15 minutes and the horny layers are removed (cut off with nail scissors or tongs). If it is necessary to apply the drug repeatedly, in order to avoid burns to the surrounding skin, it is advisable to lubricate it with zinc paste. The paste is removed with a dry gauze swab after the last portion of Feresol has dried.

It is not recommended to remove genital warts yourself; they are treated with Feresol in the treatment room of the clinic by a dermatovenereologist or urologist. The drug Ferezol is applied to each element separately 1-2 times with an interval of 3-4 minutes.

Repeated treatment, if necessary, is carried out 6-8 days after the crust falls off. 4-5 procedures are allowed.

Side effects : Swelling and redness of the skin when applied to the eye area, which goes away on its own. Allergic reactions.

The area of skin treated with Feresol must be air-dried; it must not be lubricated with any ointments or washed with water on the first day after treatment.

Reviews of Ferezol

When using the drug taking into account the recommendations specified in the instructions for use, the treatment result is usually positive.

In reviews of Feresol, there is also information that the product is quite painful and often causes burns on the skin when using it. This is why many patients prefer alternative methods of getting rid of warts, such as laser cauterization or freezing.

Self-prescription of Feresol is not recommended. It is better if the treatment method and specific drug are prescribed by a specialist.

Composition and release form of Feresol

They produce a solution intended for external use. 100 g of solution contains the following active ingredients:

  • Tricresol 40 g;
  • Phenol 60 g.

In dark glass bottles of 100 g, complete with an applicator.

Instead of the discontinued drug Ferezol, today its improved formula is being produced - the drug Verrukacid®, which at JSC Retinoids was purified from ortho- and para-cresols, retaining only the main active ingredient - metacresol. As a result, the drug has become more active, and to achieve the same effect it must be used in smaller doses, which means it is less toxic. In addition, Verrukacid® has a convenient packaging with an applicator.

Indications and side effects of the solution

The drug Feresol was developed to combat such cosmetic defects as:

  • common warts, on the soles, filamentous;
  • papillomas;
  • condylomas acuminata.

Effective in the fight against neoplasms of different diameters, including those larger than 2-3 mm.

Reviews indicate that Feresol can cause the following negative reactions:

  1. A burning sensation at the treatment site.
  2. Local allergic reaction.
  3. Swelling of the retina when applying the product to the periocular area.

In all cases, except allergies, the symptoms go away on their own after a few hours and do not require special treatment.

Analogs of Feresol

The drug can rarely be found in pharmacies, as many companies have discontinued it. But acquiring its analogues is not difficult. There are direct substitutes for the drug (containing the same active substance) and drugs that have similar properties. What can replace Feresol?

How to replace Ferezol

Direct analogues:

  • Phenol;
  • Medicinal solution of Phenol in glycerin.

These drugs, as well as Feresol, are rarely found on sale. Therefore, as a replacement, it is better to purchase:

  • Verrucacid. Antiseptic. Used to cauterize warts and skin growths. Contains the same active substances as Feresol - metacresol and phenol. The product is more expensive, but more effective.
  • Duofilm is a cauterizing agent. Contains salicylic and lactic acid. Duofilm is an expensive medicinal product;
  • Collomac is a necrotizing agent for cauterizing neoplasms. Contains the same active substances as Duofilm.
  • Lapis or lapis pencil. Antiseptic containing silver ions. It is a hard pencil of milk product. This form helps to accurately dose it onto skin growths.

Important! You cannot make a decision on choosing an analogue of Feresol on your own! Only a dermatologist (dermatovenerologist) can select a replacement medication.

Features of use for papillomavirus

During treatment with the solution, you must be careful and avoid contact with mucous membranes and eyes. If this happens, you must immediately wash your face with plenty of water.

Important Tips:

  • Cauterized papillomas cannot be covered with a compress, adhesive plaster, lubricated with ointments and cosmetic creams, or peel off the resulting crusts.
  • Doctors do not advise applying the solution to growths that are located in the folds (genitals and anal area, the distance between the fingers). Also, do not apply to areas of active sweat production due to the risk of the product spreading and causing burns to healthy skin.
  • Apply a second coat only after the specified time has elapsed.
  • During the first day, the treated area should not be wetted; it should dry in the open air.
  • Avoid contact with synthetic clothing.
  • If a burn appears on the surrounding tissues, they need to be restored with the help of anti-burn and wound-healing drugs.
  • If you accidentally get Feresol on healthy skin, you must immediately remove the residue with any alcohol-containing solution and rinse thoroughly with warm water mixed with detergent.

These recommendations will help you effectively get rid of the virus on the surface of the skin and restore beauty and smooth texture.

Condition of plantar warts after using Feresol
