Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Xidifon is used to correct the metabolism of osteochondral tissue by normalizing calcium metabolism. Etidronic acid, the active substance of the drug, prevents the loss of calcium from bone tissue, ensuring the prevention of osteoporosis and pathological calcification of various soft tissues.

Etidronic acid prevents the crystal formation of calcium salts, preventing the appearance of stones (insoluble calcium salts with mucopolysaccharides, oxalates, phosphates). In patients with nephritis, the active component of the drug has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect.

The drug increases the rate of elimination of heavy metals from the body: magnesium, lead, strontium, as well as tin, antimony, silicon. At the same time, the balance of microelements is not disturbed. Xidifon improves the biophysical state of cell membranes of the immune system and is used in the treatment of bronchial asthma.

After oral administration, the drug is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract within 30 minutes, but is not metabolized in the body. Etidronic acid is excreted unchanged through the kidneys. The half-life is 1 day.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Xidifon, as a means of regulating calcium metabolism in children and adults, is prescribed for the following conditions/diseases:

  • Urolithiasis and other kidney diseases;
  • Hypervitaminosis D;
  • Osteoporosis (for treatment and prevention);
  • Hyperparathyroidism (ostitis fibrocystis) and concomitant interstitial nephritis;
  • Rheumatoid arthritis (to prevent the development of osteoporosis and osteopenia with prolonged immobilization, increase bone mass in secondary osteoporosis).

The drug is also prescribed if the following indications exist:

  • Acceleration of removal from the body of excess heavy metals: antimony, tin, lead, strontium, silicon;
  • Stabilization of membranes of immunocompetent cells in adults with mild and moderate bronchial asthma (simultaneously with other drugs);
  • Prevention of osteoporosis in adults with hormone-dependent bronchial asthma (simultaneously with other drugs).

Instructions for use of Xydiphone: method and dosage

The solution should be taken orally, preferably 30 minutes before meals.

Before use, add 9 parts of water (distilled or boiled) to 1 part of the base 20% solution. After dilution, the solution must be stored in the refrigerator.

Recommended dosage regimen (single dose):

  • Adults and children over 10 years of age: 300 mg (1 tablespoon);
  • Children 3-10 years old: 200 mg (1 dessert spoon);
  • Children under 3 years of age: 10 mg/kg body weight (1 teaspoon).

Frequency of administration – 2-3 times a day.

The duration of the primary treatment course is 14 days. For crystalluria and kidney stones, 5-6 courses are recommended at intervals of 21 days for 1-2 years. To prevent recurrence of stone formation, Xidifon is prescribed for a course lasting from 2 to 6 months.

For osteoporosis (treatment and prevention), the drug is prescribed at a dose of 5-7 mg/kg for 2-3 months. Repeated courses are carried out with a break of 1-2 months.

For trabecular osteoporosis and osteopenia due to rheumatoid arthritis, Xidifon should be taken for at least a year. Daily dose – 5-10 mg/kg body weight (in 2 doses). At the same time, it is recommended to eat food rich in calcium salts (corresponds to 500 ml of milk), or, if it is impossible for any reason to comply with this condition, take 1500 mg of calcium gluconate per day.

For chronic intoxication with heavy metals and for patients living in environmentally unfavorable conditions for heavy metals, the drug is recommended to be taken from 7 to 10 days of each month at a daily dose of 10 mg/kg body weight.

For bronchial asthma, Xidifon is prescribed simultaneously with other drugs for the treatment of patients over 16 years of age, the duration of therapy is no more than 30 days.

Instructions for use Xidifon conc. d/d for oral administration 20% 50ml

Dosage forms solution 20% 50 ml Group Antiosteoporotic agents - biosphosphonates International nonproprietary name Etidronic acid Composition Active substance: monopotassium salt of 1-hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid dihydrate - 20.0 g Manufacturers Moskhimfarmpreparaty im. ON THE. Semashko (Russia), Repharm Institute of Pharmaceutical Reagents (Russia) Pharmacological action The drug regulates calcium metabolism: prevents excessive release of calcium from the bones, thereby preventing osteoporosis, preventing pathological calcification of soft tissues. The drug prevents crystal formation, as well as the growth and aggregation of calcium salt crystals in the urine. By keeping calcium ions in a dissolved state, it prevents recurrent stone formation, eliminating the possibility of the formation of insoluble calcium salts (with oxalates, mucopolysaccharides, phosphates, etc.), and has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect in interstitial nephritis. The drug, like other complexones, has the property of accelerating the elimination of heavy metals - lead, tin, antimony, strontium, magnesium, silicon. Does not disturb the balance of microelements. The effectiveness of the drug in the complex therapy of bronchial asthma has also been confirmed. In this case, the mechanism of action is not fully understood. It is assumed that it changes the biophysical state of the membranes of immunocompetent cells, stabilizing them. The half-life of xydiphone is 24 hours; it is not metabolized in the body and is excreted unchanged mainly by the kidneys. Absorbed from the stomach within the first 30 minutes after administration. Side effects In some cases, a laxative effect is noted, and the daily dose must be divided into a larger number of doses. Long-term use of large doses of xydiphon can cause magnesium deficiency and a rickets-like effect; for prevention, it is recommended to prescribe minimal doses of magnesium-containing drugs and periodically therapeutic doses of vitamin D. A change in lipid peroxidation may also be observed, which can be eliminated by taking 3-5 drops of a 5% oil solution of vitamin E once a day. Indications for use Used in adults and children as a means of regulating calcium metabolism in urolithiasis and other kidney diseases; hypervitaminosis D, hyperparathyroidism and concomitant interstitial nephritis; for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, as well as as a means of preventing the development of osteopenia and osteoporosis during prolonged immobilization of rheumatoid arthritis, increasing bone mass in secondary osteoporosis. The drug is also used to accelerate the removal from the body of excess heavy metals lead, tin, strontium, silicon and antimony. It is used in adults in the complex therapy of mild and moderate bronchial asthma to stabilize the membranes of immunocompetent cells, as well as in the complex therapy of hormonal-dependent bronchial asthma to prevent osteoporosis. Contraindications Pregnancy and lactation, hypocalcemia, hypersensitivity to the drug. Method of administration and dosage Take orally 30 minutes before meals, in the form of a solution diluted to 2%, which is obtained by adding 9 parts of distilled or boiled water to 1 part of a 20% solution (for example, 450 ml of water is added to 50 ml of a 20% solution), The diluted solution is stored in the refrigerator. Adults and children over 10 years of age: prescribed 1 tablespoon 2-3 times a day (which corresponds to 0.3 g of xydiphone). Children from 3 to 10 years: 1 dessert spoon (0.2 g) 2-3 times a day. Children under 3 years old: 1 teaspoon 2-3 times a day (at the rate of 0.01 g per 1 kg of body weight). The initial course of treatment is 14 days. In case of crystalluria and the presence of stones in the kidneys, 5-6 courses are carried out with three-week breaks for 1-2 years. To prevent relapse of stone formation, the drug is prescribed for up to 2-6 months. For the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, a dose of 5-7 mg/kg is used for 2-3 months, after 1-2 months the treatment courses are repeated. For trabecular osteoporosis and osteopenia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, use for at least a year at a rate of 5-10 mg/kg body weight in 2 doses. At the same time, it is recommended to eat foods rich in calcium salts (equivalent to 500 ml of milk), or, if this is not possible for some reason, take calcium gluconate 1.5 g/day. In case of chronic intoxication with heavy metals and when living in environmental conditions unfavorable for heavy metals, it is recommended to use therapeutic doses of Xydiphone (at the rate of 10 mg/kg body weight) for 7-10 days every month. For bronchial asthma, it is used in complex therapy in adults over 16 years of age for no more than 30 days. Overdose Possible increased side effects. Interaction No information available. Special instructions Use the drug with caution in patients with chronic enterocolitis. When used in patients with reduced renal function, the dosage regimen should be adjusted. Patients taking the drug should receive sufficient amounts of calcium and vitamin D. Not established. Is etidronic acid excreted in breast milk? Storage conditions Store out of the reach of children, away from light, at a temperature not lower than 0 C. The diluted solution is stored in the refrigerator for 1 month.
