Lorista, 30 pcs., 12.5 mg, film-coated tablets

pharmachologic effect

The active ingredient of Lorista is losartan, which has the ability to block angiotensin 2 receptors in the heart, kidneys, blood vessels, and adrenal cortex, which leads to a decrease in vasoconstriction (narrowing of the lumen of the arteries), a decrease in total peripheral resistance and, as a result, a decrease in blood pressure.

For heart failure, Lorista, reviews confirm, increases the endurance of patients during physical activity, and also prevents the development of myocardial hypertrophy. The maximum concentration of losartan in the blood can be observed 1 hour after oral administration of Lorista, while metabolites formed in the liver begin to act after 2.5-4 hours.

Lorista N and Lorista ND are combination drugs whose active ingredients are losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Hydrochlorothiazide has a pronounced diuretic effect, which is due to the substance’s ability to influence the processes of the second phase of urine formation, which is the reabsorption (absorption) of water, magnesium, potassium, chlorine, sodium ions, and also to delay the excretion of uric acid and calcium ions. Hydrochlorothiazide has antihypertensive properties, which are explained by its action aimed at dilating arterioles.

The diuretic effect of this substance can be observed within 1-2 hours after using Lorista N, while the hypotensive effect develops after 3-4 days.

Drug interactions

Please note that when used simultaneously with Lorista:

  • Potassium-sparing diuretics (triamterene, spironolactone, amiloride) - may increase the risk of hyperkalemia;
  • Fluconazole and rifampicin - reduce the level of the active metabolite of losartan potassium, the clinical consequences of this effect are unknown;
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (including selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitors) - may reduce effectiveness;
  • Beta-blockers, diuretics, sympatholytics – enhance (mutually) the hypotensive effect.

When combined with indirect anticoagulants, digoxin, hydrochlorothiazide, cimetidine, ketoconazole, phenobarbital and erythromycin, no clinically significant drug interactions were observed.

When combined with thiazide diuretics, the reduction in blood pressure is additive.

Indications for use of Lorista

The instructions recommend using the drug Lorista for:

  • arterial hypertension;
  • left ventricular hypertrophy and arterial hypertension to reduce the risk of stroke;
  • chronic heart failure, as part of a combination treatment;
  • nephrology in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in order to reduce protenuria (the presence of protein in the urine).

According to the instructions, Lorista N is prescribed if combined treatment with antihypertensive drugs and diuretics is necessary.

Lorista: what do pills help with?

Lorista - tablets for high blood pressure. They are an effective method of combating and preventing hypertension.

Lorista 50 mg

According to the latest scientific research, every sixth person on the planet is susceptible to hypertension, and the risk of the disease extends to every third person. The reason for this is that hypertension has no obvious symptoms and can develop over many years without being noticed.

To avoid the development of the disease and further complications, it is recommended to undergo regular examination by a doctor, since identified hypertension can be easily treated and further prevented if all recommendations prescribed by specialists are followed.

The blood pressure value is determined using a tonometer, which takes into account two indicators:

  • upper pressure or systole caused by contraction of the heart muscle;
  • lower pressure or diastole caused by relaxation of the heart muscle.

A healthy indicator is considered to be a pressure of 120/80 (one hundred and twenty by eighty) millimeters of mercury.

If there is a deviation to the lower side, one speaks of low blood pressure or hypotension. A deviation in the upper range exceeding 130/90 is called hypertension.

With high blood pressure, there is a consistent destruction of blood vessels and a deterioration in heart function. Ignoring this damage can lead to a heart attack or stroke. To avoid this problem, it is recommended to undergo regular examinations with a doctor or check your blood pressure at home.

Contraindications

Lorista, use requires prior consultation with a doctor, is not prescribed for low blood pressure, dehydration, hyperkalemia, lactose intolerance, glucose and galactose malabsorption syndrome, hypersensitivity to losartan. Pregnant and breastfeeding patients, as well as persons under 18 years of age, should not use Lorista. Lorista N, in addition to the above contraindications, is not prescribed for severe renal or liver dysfunction and anuria (lack of urine in the bladder).

Lorista tablets should be taken with caution by persons with renal or hepatic insufficiency, with water-electrolyte imbalance, or with a reduced volume of circulating blood.

special instructions

In mild to moderate liver cirrhosis, the level of losartan and its active metabolite in the blood when taken orally is higher than in healthy patients. As a result, if there is a history of liver damage, lower doses are required.

Patients with impaired renal function, both with and without diabetes mellitus, should be aware of the possible development of hyperkalemia, which in rare cases may require discontinuation of the drug. During therapy, it is necessary to monitor the potassium content in the blood at regular intervals, especially for elderly patients and those with impaired renal function.

Patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or unilateral artery stenosis of a solitary kidney should regularly monitor serum creatinine concentrations.

There is no data on the effect of Lorista on the ability to drive vehicles or other complex mechanisms.

Instructions for use Lorista

Lorista is available in the form of tablets containing 100, 50, 25 or 12.5 mg of losartan potassium. The drug should be taken orally once a day.

For arterial hypertension, to reduce the risk of stroke, as well as to protect the kidneys in patients with diabetes, the instructions recommend taking Lorista tablets in a daily dose of 50 mg. If it is necessary to achieve a more pronounced effect, the dose can be increased to 100 mg per day. According to reviews, Lorista develops its antihypertensive effect within 3-6 weeks of treatment. When simultaneously taking high doses of diuretics, Lorista should be started at 25 mg per day. Also, a lower dose of the drug is recommended for people with impaired liver function.

In case of chronic failure, the drug Lorista, its use involves the simultaneous administration of diuretics and cardiac glycosides, is used according to a certain scheme. During the first week of treatment, Lorista should be taken 12.5 mg per day, then every week the daily dose should be increased by 12.5 mg. If the drug is taken correctly, the fourth week of treatment will begin with 50 mg of Lorista per day. Further treatment with Lorista should be continued, taking a maintenance dose corresponding to 50 mg.

Lorista N is a tablet containing 50 mg of losartan and 12.5 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.

Lorista ND tablets contain the same combination of substances, only twice as much – 100 mg of losartan and 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide.

For arterial hypertension, the recommended daily dose of Lorista N is 1 tablet; if necessary, 2 tablets per day are allowed. If the patient experiences a decrease in circulating blood volume, the drug should be started with a daily dose of 25 mg. Lorista N tablets should be taken after correction of circulating blood volume and discontinuation of diuretics.

According to reviews, it is advisable to take Lorista N if there is a risk of cardiovascular diseases if monotherapy with losartan does not help achieve the target blood pressure level. The recommended dose of the drug per day is 1-2 tablets.
