Sabelnik tincture - recipes, treatment, dosage regimens and homemade ointment

When traditional medicine is powerless to restore a person’s health, medicinal herbs come to the rescue. There are many rave reviews about marsh cinquefoil, testifying to complete healing with the help of this unique plant. According to them, cinquefoil tincture is a real elixir of life that can help with the most complex diseases. What does cinquefoil help with, where can you find valuable raw materials and how are useful drugs prepared from it?

The plant has many popular names - five-leafed, splayed, cinquefoil, dry wood, hare's ears, dekop and even joint. From them you can immediately imagine the appearance of the grass - woody stems with saber-shaped leaves arranged in the form of 5 fingers, topped with dark red flowers. Very often it forms dense thickets, which, however, do not rise above the knee.

It’s not for nothing that cinquefoil is called swamp, because it loves to settle in damp areas - flooded lowlands and meadows, on swampy banks, near rivers and lakes. Cinquefoil overwinters due to its developed root, about 3 m long. The flowering period lasts from July to August, and raw materials for health purposes need to be collected and dried in the fall, when the plant has accumulated a maximum of important substances.

Description of the plant

In order not to make a mistake in choosing and prepare cinquefoil, you need to know what it looks like. Externally, it is a herbaceous plant that is a perennial. It forms sparse thickets that may resemble a small bush.

Preparation and storage of cinquefoil

Medicinal use is found for all parts of cinquefoil, but they are harvested at different periods of time.

The roots of cinquefoil are most often used; the best time to collect them is the very beginning of spring or the end of autumn. In the spring, the harvesting of roots begins before the flowering period, when the cinquefoil shoots have just appeared and the healing powers have not had time to go into the foliage and flowers. In spring, harvesting may be hampered by water spills if the selected plant is located on the shore of a reservoir or in a swamp. In the fall, you need to wait until the cinquefoil leaves have already withered. You should not pull out the entire cinquefoil root cushion from the soil. Only young parts of the root system are suitable for use; they are brown on the outside and green on the inside; they are no more than half a meter in length. The remaining part of the roots, darkened to almost black, is old and unsuitable for treatment. The cut roots are thoroughly washed with running water, cut into pieces no more than 30 mm long and dried under sunlight in a well-ventilated place. Final drying can be done in special dryers or in an oven at a low temperature, not higher than 40 degrees. A sign of well-dried raw materials is a cracking sound when broken; only under-dried roots bend.

The upper, green part of the cinquefoil is harvested in the summer, during the flowering period. The shoots are cut off at a certain distance from the ground or water so that the lower leaves, which have turned yellow and have begun to rot, are not included in the collection. Dry the raw materials in a well-ventilated place, protected from direct sun, often turning over and stirring so that the wet raw materials do not begin to rot.

The finished raw materials are stored in linen bags or in paper bags or in glass jars in a dry room. The raw material of cinquefoil retains its healing power for three years.

Use of cinquefoil

The variety of diseases that are treated using hare ears is explained by the following beneficial properties for the body:

  • cleansing;

  • choleretic.

The plant also has a rejuvenating property, resulting in physical stimulation of tissues and cells.

The plant is used in the form of infusions, decoctions, and components for creating rubs and ointments. Highly effective compresses, emulsions and alcohol/oil extracts are created with cinquefoil, which can then be used both as an independent remedy and as a component of a drug for the treatment of a specific disease.

Sabelnik in cooking and dietetics

  • As a flavoring agent, cinquefoil is used in the production of medicines, beer, marinades and aperitifs;
  • The herb is a component of fish spices and is used for pickling herring or sprat;
  • Jam is made from the roots, added to sweets, and used as a food additive when preserving compotes;
  • Ground rhizomes have a bitter taste. They are used in cooking with caution, in small doses. The spice goes well with dishes made from various types of cabbage (white cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Chinese cabbage, kelp), puddings, meat dishes (fried pork and lamb), fish, homemade cookies;
  • In dietary nutrition, teas with this herb can be consumed as an addition to the main menu to normalize metabolic processes in the body. The main disadvantage is the ability to induce appetite. Therefore, it is best to drink tea with cinquefoil after breakfast. It promotes gentle cleansing of the digestive system and blood.

Oncology

Fieldfare is the only non-poisonous plant that has antitumor and anti-inflammatory properties, so it is used in the treatment of cancer as an adjuvant. Reviews of the use of cinquefoil tincture for joints

Anna, 32 years old. There is an initial stage of arthritis of the knee joint. Taking chondroprotective drugs slightly improved the mobility of the joints, but did not help completely get rid of the pain and crunching. A colleague advised me to drink cinquefoil tincture. I bought it ready-made at the pharmacy, and after a month’s course, the crunching in my knees went away, and discomfort was felt only under heavy load. I was also surprised to discover that the crunching sound I had when turning my neck, which I had since childhood, disappeared. I’m very pleased with the effect, I’ll rest for a month and continue taking it again.

Lyudmila Sergeevna, 56 years old. I have suffered from arthrosis of the hip joint for many years. I tried everything I could - I drank chondroitin and glucosamine, applied hundreds of ointments, attached a magnet, planted bees, but the desired relief did not come. I decided to turn to medicinal plants. I made an alcohol tincture of cinquefoil myself and started taking it. At first, the pain even intensified, but I read that this was normal and confidently continued the treatment. And now, a month later, I can recommend it to everyone suffering from arthrosis. The joints became more mobile, the pain decreased, and it became more comfortable to do joint exercises. None of the drugs prescribed by the doctor gave this effect.

How to make tincture at home

The recipe for preparing the tincture may vary slightly depending on the liquid used as a solvent.

How to infuse cinquefoil in vodka:

  1. A 1-liter jar is filled one-third with fresh roots cut into approximately 1 cm pieces.
  2. Pour 0.5 liters of vodka into the prepared raw material and close the container with a nylon lid.
  3. Insist for at least 3 weeks in a closet or pantry.
  4. Strain and store in the refrigerator.

The readiness of the product can be determined by its rich red-brown color. If the liquid is still pale in color, then leave it for another 3-5 days.

How to infuse cinquefoil in alcohol:

  1. For 70% alcohol, which is a stronger solvent than vodka, both fresh and dry raw materials are suitable. For 0.5 liters of liquid take 100 g of dry roots.
  2. The mixture is placed in a dark place and kept for 3 weeks, after which it is filtered.

The tincture recipe must be selected based on the planned method of its use. It is better to use alcohol-based products only for rubbing, while cinquefoil tincture with vodka can be taken both internally and externally.

How to take the tincture correctly

For arthrosis and arthritis, take the tincture three times a day, 1 tsp, dissolving it in 50 ml of water. For the best effect, rub the joints in parallel with the product. The procedure is carried out before bedtime so that the tincture can not be washed off the skin, but the sore spots can be wrapped in woolen cloth. The course of treatment lasts 1-1.5 months. Moreover, after about a week of taking the tincture, joint pain may increase. There is no need to quit treatment, a temporary exacerbation is a normal reaction of the body to the plant, you just need to wait it out for several days, after which relief will come sharply.

For a hernia of the spine, cinquefoil tincture is drunk according to the same scheme, but when rubbed, it is applied not to the sore spots themselves, but to the area around the vertebrae.

To get rid of salt deposits , drink 1 tbsp of the tincture. three times a day for 10-15 minutes of food. Reception is continued for 20 days, after which they rest for 10 days and repeat.

The warming effect of the tincture is beneficial for respiratory diseases . If there is no elevated temperature, it is used to rub the chest and back area.

Use of cinquefoil in difficult clinical situations

In medicine, there are cases when cinquefoil is used for severe clinical diagnoses, when traditional medications are powerless. List of pathologies for which cinquefoil is prescribed in complex therapy:

  • Multiple sclerosis;
  • Ostearthritis;
  • Hepatitis;
  • Polyarthritis.

Most often, a herbal tincture is prescribed as part of complex therapy. It is not recommended to start single-component treatment without consulting a doctor. It is important to undergo examination and follow the recommendations of a specialist.

Clinical studies are being conducted to study the effectiveness of the plant in the treatment of cancer tumors. Herbal medicine is prescribed as an experimental technique for various cancers. It is necessary to understand that in case of oncology, cinquefoil is prohibited from drinking on its own, but only in complex therapy.

Use in cosmetology

Sabelnik has become a frequent ingredient in a very healthy balm, which has an excellent effect on muscle tone and joint strength. But in the sphere of beauty, the inconspicuous marsh plant also actively manifests itself. For example, it is included in cosmetic preparations that rejuvenate the skin and eliminate the first age-related changes.

A decoction of cinquefoil strengthens hair and reduces hair loss

Decoctions based on cinquefoil:

  • strengthens hair follicles.

If a decoction of the plant is included in a cream mask for facial skin, it will give the dermis elasticity, a fresh and toned appearance. And all thanks to the balanced composition, which promotes tissue regeneration, metabolic activity, and saturation of cells with vitamins.

Procurement of raw materials

Before we find out what diseases the marsh cinquefoil grass helps with, let’s figure out how to store it correctly.

After the grass has been collected, it must be dried in the shade so that the sun's rays do not reach the raw material. It is also necessary that this place is well ventilated. The grass needs to be stirred periodically. Then you need to put it in bags made of fabric or paper and put it in a dark, cool place for storage. The plant will retain its healing properties for two years.

The root of the marsh cinquefoil, the beneficial properties and contraindications for use of which we will learn a little later, is even more useful than the above-ground part. But you only need to cut off the young parts that are at the very top, since those roots that have already turned black have lost their useful qualities. Unlike stems and leaves, roots need to be dried in the sun, after washing them in running water. This must be done immediately, otherwise they may rot due to excess moisture. The roots are stored in the same way as the above-ground part of the raw material.

It is recommended to take all components in equal proportions (one teaspoon of each herb per liter of water).

Some people like homemade kvass with cinquefoil, but this is not the best option, since preparing kvass involves using a considerable amount of sugar.

Plant composition

Scientists interested in studying the chemical composition of the plant have discovered components that have the following actions.

  • Tannins or tannins provide an anti-inflammatory effect, have astringent and hemostatic properties.
  • Saponins are diuretic and tonic elements used in the treatment of various diseases.
  • Flavonoids improve blood circulation and elasticity of blood vessels, tone.

This tincture can be drunk, rubbed into a joint for acute pain, and applied as a compress.

To prevent these symptoms, it is necessary to clarify in what doses it should be consumed so as not to exceed the daily norm and thereby not cause poisoning.

Expert opinion and scientific research

Marsh cinquefoil is considered a promising plant for the development of pharmaceutical products that can be effective in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. This topic has indeed attracted considerable attention, since the incidence of musculoskeletal diseases in Russia (and not only) is very high, as is the disability resulting from the development of such diseases.

It is also known that synthetic drugs, unlike herbal ones, are more toxic (which also affects the number of side effects). Herbal medicines are better tolerated. That is why the emphasis on studying cinquefoil and similar plants is so strong today.

Many scientific works are open for study. And there you can read about laboratory experiments that demonstrated the effectiveness of cinquefoil in the treatment of arthritis, for example. An example of one such research is the dissertation of a candidate of medical sciences. Sciences Ferubko E.V.

Unlike many plants, the effectiveness of which has not been scientifically proven, cinquefoil can be considered an example of a truly significant natural raw material.

Unlike many plants, the effectiveness of which has not been scientifically proven (or is not significant), cinquefoil can be considered an example of a truly significant natural raw material. Therefore, pharmaceutical preparations containing it are increasingly found on pharmacy shelves, and herbalists use the natural product in prescriptions.

Homemade ointment for joints

An alternative medicine for external use is ointment with cinquefoil. You can either buy it at the pharmacy or prepare it yourself. For this you will need:

  • red pepper infusion – 1 tsp;
  • vitamin E – 5 drops;
  • goose or badger fat – 50 ml;
  • honey – 1 tsp.

The fat is melted in a water bath, after which all ingredients are thoroughly mixed, placed in a glass container and stored in the refrigerator. The prepared ointment must be applied to the affected area three times a day.
