How does it affect the body? (Pharmacodynamics)

The active component benzydamine belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and acts as an antiseptic, analgesic and local anesthetic. The second main substance – cetylpyridinium chloride – has antimicrobial, antifungal and virucidal pharmacological effects

Only benzydamine is absorbed into the body, penetrating into the blood plasma through the mucous membrane. As a result, there is no systemic interaction between both active ingredients. At the same time, the amount of benzamidine is not enough for systemic manifestations. The level of absorption of benzydamine in a spray that has a local effect is lower than when taken in those dosage forms that promote its complete dissolution in the oral cavity.

Elimination of active components from the body is carried out through the kidneys with urine, mainly in the form of inactive metabolites.

Indications for use:

The medicine is used to treat symptoms:

  • acute and chronic pharyngitis;
  • acute forms of tonsillitis (angina);

It is recommended to stop breastfeeding while using the aerosol.

Side effects

During treatment, adverse reactions of the body may occur in the form of allergic rashes and itching, nausea and diarrhea. In case of ulcerative lesions of the mucous membrane, you should seek help from a physician.

Pharmacological properties

The therapeutic effect of the drug is determined by its composition. So benzydamine belongs to the group of NSAIDs. This means that the substance has a local anesthetic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.

The pharmacological effect of benzydamine is achieved by blocking the production of prostaglandins, which provoke the inflammatory process. Therefore, the substance is used to relieve swelling, pain and hyperemia in the oropharynx.

The price of the medicine is 400 rubles.

Cetylpyridinium chloride is an ammonium compound that has a powerful antiseptic and antimicrobial effect. The substance also has disinfectant and antifungal properties.

The principle of action of cetylpyridinium is based on interaction with lipoproteins of the cell membranes of pathogens, as a result of which the membranes are destroyed and the microbes die. The substance destroys gram-positive bacteria, viruses and yeast-like fungi.

Most of the active components of Septolete are excreted in urine in the form of inactive metabolites. T ½ and C-max for the drug are the same as for most drugs.

"SEPTOLETE": reviews

Mom often complained of pain and burning in her throat (you know what it’s like). All kinds of remedies that the local local doctor prescribed did not help. At first we tried traditional methods - the result was zero. One day she went to a pharmacy, where a pharmacist friend recommended Septoleta Total in the form of a spray. The instructions were followed strictly, and after a couple of days my mother felt relief, after which all the symptoms went away. For almost the entire winter she has not complained of unpleasant symptoms, she feels well, and probably the remedy suited her perfectly.

After such an unpleasant procedure as FGDS, I felt discomfort in my mouth. For the first day I thought it was the consequences of the procedure. Then, looking in the mirror, I opened my mouth and examined the mucous membrane, I realized that it was nothing more than stomatitis ulcers all over the mucous membrane, it was painful not only to eat, but also to speak, and considering that I also had to work with stomatitis, I began treatment. I bought this spray at the pharmacy; it combines an antibiotic + pain relief; such an integrated approach literally saved me. Applying to stomatitis ulcers is a little painful (burning and pain in the first few seconds) then replaced by a feeling of freshness and painlessness. I was actively treated with it for the first 3 days, and it worked.

Precautionary measures

When using an antiseptic you should consider:

  • The bottle of Septolete-Plus spray is intended for individual use only. During treatment, it should not be given to other people.
  • The spray is not intended for inhalation and should not come into contact with the eyes.
  • It is not recommended to take tablets before meals or during meals.
  • If there are wounds in the oral cavity, then you should refrain from using the product in any form, since the active substance interferes with healing.
  • If after three days of treatment with Septolete-Plus the disease intensifies and the temperature does not drop, then the antiseptic should be discontinued and consult a doctor to adjust the treatment regimen.

Overdose

To date, there has been no information about cases of overdose. Due to the fact that Septolet-Plus contains a minimal amount of active substance, intoxication is practically impossible. It is assumed that after taking a large amount of the drug, disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain are possible. Symptoms of overdose develop especially quickly in children. To eliminate an overdose, it is necessary to stop taking the antiseptic, empty the stomach, and carry out symptomatic therapy.
