Ascorbic acid lowers vaginal pH by inhibiting bacterial growth and helps restore and maintain normal vaginal pH and flora (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus gasseri). Thus, when the vaginal pH decreases over several days, there is a pronounced suppression of the growth of anaerobic bacteria, as well as the restoration of normal flora (Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus gasseri).

It is found in the systemic circulation in small quantities and is excreted through the kidneys.
Indications for use

— To normalize the disturbed vaginal microflora.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components;
— Vulvovaginal candidiasis.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Not contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
Directions for use and doses
Intravaginally. 1 vaginal tablet is inserted into the vagina while lying on your back with legs slightly bent, 1 time in the evening before bed. The course of treatment is 6 days. Repeated courses of treatment are possible. If necessary, the course of therapy can be extended for a longer period.

Overdose
Cases of overdose have not been described.
Interaction with other drugs
Salicylates stimulate the process of removing vitamin C from the body. Estrogens improve the bioavailability of vitamin C. Vitamin C reduces the activity of anticoagulants.
special instructions
The drug does not inhibit the growth of fungal flora of the vagina. Interruptions in the use of Vaginorm S due to intercyclic or menstrual bleeding are not necessary. Vitamin C changes the pattern of glucose in the urine, as well as the pattern of transaminases, lactate dehydrogenase and bilirubin in the blood serum. Manifestations such as burning and itching may be due to the presence of a concomitant asymptomatic fungal infection. Therefore, when these symptoms appear, an analysis should be performed to exclude a fungal infection.

Cannot be used for thrush, or scientifically for vulvovaginal candidiasis.
Bifidumbacterin
A preparation based on live bifidobacteria, stored in the refrigerator. It is indicated for various vaginosis, colpitis, dysbacteriosis and inflammatory processes of the urogenital tract. It is also used as a preventive and therapeutic agent before surgery and childbirth. When used simultaneously with antibiotics, the drug has a weaker effect.
Lactagel
The analogue is tubes with gel for one-time intravaginal administration, intended to normalize the acidity of the vaginal microflora. The analogue is effective for unpleasant odor, discomfort and heavy vaginal discharge.
Lactonorm

Suppositories are Russian substitutes for Vaginorm S, used intravaginally on the basis of lactic acid and are similar in composition to Lactagel. They are prescribed to normalize vaginal pH and improve the state of microflora, improve protective properties against genital infections and prevent the growth of pathogenic flora. The package contains 5 or 10 vaginal suppositories.

Vaginorm or Acylact
When choosing between Vaginorm S and Acylact, you should decide on the goals of treatment and the main drugs. The Acylact analogue is used as the second stage after antimicrobial and antibacterial therapy. The first medication itself has an antimicrobial effect and can be prescribed simultaneously.
Advantages of Vaginorm S compared to Acylact:
- shorter course (package contains 6 suppositories, Acylact – 10 pcs.);
- simultaneous restoration of vaginal microflora and prevention of the development of anaerobic infections, their treatment;
- no need to refrigerate.
In other respects, both drugs are similar.
The same choice can be made between Vaginorm or Laktonorm.
Vagilak or Vaginorm
For frequent relapses of vaginitis and vaginosis, you can use Vagilac or Vaginorm S. The second drug should not be used when planning pregnancy, since it acidifies the vaginal environment and makes it unsuitable for sperm.
In general, the two analogues are aimed at restoring the vaginal microflora. They differ in the main component and course of application: Vaginorm C 6 days, analogue - 15 days. The cost is approximately the same.
Doctor's review
Alexander Pichugin Doctor of the highest category, Falkenstein
“Vaginorm-s is suitable for seasonal and regular use; its effect is manifested not only in eliminating allergic symptoms, but also in eliminating the causes. From the first use, it eliminates lacrimation, swelling, runny nose and nasal congestion, skin itching and rashes, cough, asthmatic attacks, shortness of breath. By using the drug in courses several times a year, you will not encounter allergies even at the peak of its aggravation. As an additional effect, the drug restores metabolic reactions, cleanses the body of toxins and waste, increases immune resistance, improves overall well-being, and increases performance. Passed clinical studies and has certificates of conformity.”
Femilex or Vaginorm
Femilex contains lactic acid, which is beneficial for restoring microflora and maintaining vaginal acidity. The course is short – 5–10 days. Can be used after treating thrush or using antibacterial drugs. The price per course is lower than that of Vaginorm S (on average 350–750 rubles).
Vaginorm C has the same effect and consists of ascorbic acid. The disadvantage is the high price of the course if the treatment is long-term, over 6 days.
When choosing a medication, you can give preference to an analogue.
Pharmacological properties of the drug Vaginorm S
Ascorbic acid lowers the pH level in the vagina, which inhibits the growth of anaerobic bacteria, which cannot reproduce at a pH of 4.0 or lower. Lactobacilli can multiply at pH ≤4.0. Thus, when the pH of the vagina decreases, the growth of anaerobic bacteria is inhibited, as well as the restoration of normal flora. On the other hand, the growth of yeasts that can proliferate at low pH is not inhibited. In vitro studies have shown that the bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects of ascorbic acid on vaginal flora are mediated primarily by a decrease in pH. A slow release of ascorbic acid is observed, with approximately 70% entering the dissolution medium over 4 hours. There is also a rapid decrease in pH of the medium from 6.8 to 4 over 30 minutes and a slow decrease by 0.72 over the next 4– x h. The maximum plasma concentration is reached after 1.5 hours, and the half-life in the terminal phase is 61 hours. Ascorbic acid enters the systemic circulation in small quantities and is excreted in the urine.
Vaginorm or Laktozhinal
Vaginorm C packaging is designed for 6 days of use, sometimes up to 2-3 weeks at a price of 550-950 rubles. An analogue costs 750–1050 rubles. for 14 capsules, which is 8 capsules more. It is used for up to 2 weeks, 1 capsule intravaginally, or the course is halved when used morning and evening.
In terms of action, Vaginorm S and its analogue are similar: they are not used for exacerbation of thrush, they improve the acidity of the vagina and normalize the microflora, and prevent the development of anaerobic infections. For chronic infectious and inflammatory processes of the urogenital tract, it is better to choose an analogue, since the course of treatment is long.
The choice of drugs that can replace Vaginorm S is best made together with a gynecologist. It is important to take into account the presence of gynecological diseases, the frequency of their relapses, and special contraindications.
