Bronchorus syrup for children: reviews and instructions for use

Bronchorus is a mucolytic expectorant that can thin mucus and effectively remove it from the lungs. A cough reflex without sputum production - a reflex contraction of the bronchi - can lead to various complications and pathologies.

In a healthy person, the moisturizing secretion protects the mucous membrane of the respiratory organs from internal and external influences, being a vital protector of the body. Coughing with copious amounts of secretions makes breathing difficult and leads to blockage of the airways. The medication acts on the cough center, stimulating the bronchi to contract, cleanse, and push out secretions.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of Bronchorus is ambroxol, a mucolytic and expectorant with secretolytic and secretomotor effects.

Ambroxol has several mechanisms of action:

  • stimulates the motor activity of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchial mucosa (secretomotor and mucokinetic activity). Due to peristaltic contractions along the spiral of the ciliated cells of the bronchial epithelium, mucus is removed from the bronchial tree, i.e., mucociliary transport is significantly improved;
  • increases the content of the mucous component in sputum, stimulates the serous cells of the glands of the bronchial mucosa, and also normalizes the disturbed ratio of the mucous and serous components of sputum;
  • activates hydrolyzing enzymes and enhances the release of lysosomes from Clara cells, thereby reducing the viscosity of the secretion and its adhesive properties (secretolytic and mucolytic properties);
  • increases the synthesis and secretion of surfactant (surfactant) in the alveoli and bronchi.

Due to the described mechanisms of action, ambroxol significantly reduces the viscosity of sputum and improves its discharge. It begins to act after 30 minutes, the effect lasts for 6–12 hours.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral administration, ambroxol is well absorbed. Maximum plasma concentration is reached within 2 hours after administration.

80% bound to plasma proteins. Penetrates through the blood-brain and placental barriers and is excreted in breast milk.

It is metabolized in the liver, resulting in the formation of dibromanthranilic acid and glucuronic conjugates.

Excreted from the body by the kidneys: 90% - in the form of water-soluble metabolites, 10% - unchanged.

The half-life is 7–12 hours, increases with chronic renal failure, and does not change with impaired liver function.

Mechanism of action of the drug

Do you know how Bronchorus works? The medicine we are considering is an expectorant and mucolytic drug. It has secretolytic and secretomotor properties.

The active ingredient of this drug is capable of stimulating the activity of the cilia of the ciliated epithelium, which are located on the bronchial mucosa.

As a result of spiral peristaltic contractions, all mucus is removed from the bronchial tree. It should also be said that ambroxol hydrochloride significantly improves mucociliary transport.

Contraindications

  • first trimester of pregnancy;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

In addition, there are separate contraindications for each of the dosage forms of Bronchorus:

  • tablets: age up to 12 years; lactose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency;

The drug should be prescribed with caution to patients with liver and/or kidney failure, gastric and duodenal ulcers, in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.

Video

This video contains useful information about the causes of cough and expectorants. Dr. Komarovsky talks briefly and clearly, giving useful advice.

Cough syrup is the most convenient form of cough medicine for children. Lazolvan syrup is an original imported analogue medicine in liquid form. It is also available in other forms, and its formula has been tested and proven in medical practice for many years. There is also a known cheap Russian-made analogue of Lazolvan - Ambrobene syrup. Reviews about the medication are positive, and its tangible advantage is its low price. It is inexpensive and has a similar effect to Althea syrup, better known as Alteyka. It consists of plant components: the root itself and sugar liquid; enveloping the mucous membrane relieves inflammation and helps eliminate phlegm.

Reviews about Bronchorus

Reviews about Bronchorus are mostly positive. Patients note its high effectiveness, accessibility and low cost.

Bronchorus syrup is often prescribed to children to treat coughs with viscous, difficult-to-discharge sputum. As parents write, the drug thins mucus and improves coughing, but does not increase bronchial secretions. Bronchorus reduces bronchial obstruction, is well tolerated and causes almost no side effects. It also has a moderate anti-inflammatory effect. When administered simultaneously with an antibiotic (for example, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline or amoxicillin), it enhances its penetration into the bronchial mucosa, thereby increasing the effect of antibacterial therapy. In addition, the syrup has a pleasant raspberry taste, so children drink it with pleasure.

There are reports in which patients note the lower effectiveness of ambroxol compared to acetylcysteine, which retains its activity not only in mucous sputum, but also in mucopurulent and purulent secretions.

Analogs

Analogues of this medicine include medicines containing ambroxol. They are available in different forms: capsules, tablets, mixture, solution, lozenges. There are several medicinal analogues that have already proven themselves: Ambroxol, Lazolvan, Ambrobene, AmbroHEXAL, Halixol, Flavamed, Medox, Ambrosan.
