Description of the medicine

Ecodax is an antifungal ointment produced by an Indian pharmaceutical company. The product has fungicidal, bactericidal and antifungal properties. The active ingredient of the ointment is econazole nitrate, a substance related to imidazole derivatives. The mechanism of the therapeutic action of the drug is based on the possibility of suppressing the bisynthesis of ergosterol, which is responsible for regulating the permeability of the cell walls of microorganisms.

The following components are used as excipients in the cream: phosphoric acid, chlorocresol, liquid paraffin, sodium hydroxide, cetomacrogol, mineral oil, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dehydrate, cetostearyl alcohol.

pharmachologic effect

Econazole is an imidazole derivative and has antifungal, bactericidal and fungicidal effects on the body. The mechanism of action of Ecodax is explained by the suppression of the biosynthesis of ergosterol, which regulates the permeability of the cell walls of microorganisms.

The use of Ecodax is active against molds, yeasts and dermatophytes (Microsporum audouini, Torulopsis, Rhodotorula, Trichophiton rubrum, Microsporum gypseum, Trichophiton mentagrophytes, Malassezia furfur, Microsporum canis, Trichophiton tonsurans, Candida albicans), causing pityriasis versicolor, as well as against some gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci, streptococci and Nocardia minutissima).

What is Ecodax used for?

According to the official instructions, Ecodax ointment is effective against dermatophytes, yeast and mold fungi. The drug is also prescribed against some gram-positive pathogenic pathogens (staphylococci, streptococci, microorganisms of the genus N).

Fungal diseases are the first thing for which Ecodax should be used if the causative agent is microorganisms sensitive to the active component. An antimycotic drug is prescribed for the treatment of the following ailments:

  • pityriasis versicolor;
  • fungal infection of the nail plates (onychomycosis);
  • fungal infection of the skin (dermatoses);
  • erythrasma;
  • mycotic infection of the ear canal;
  • fungal balanitis;
  • colpitis;
  • thrush (vulvovaginal mycosis).

The drug "Ecodax" (ointment): instructions for use

The antifungal agent is intended for external use only. Apply a thin layer of ointment to the area affected by the fungal pathogen and rub in until it is completely absorbed. You should first dry the wet skin if the lesion is in the fold area. The duration of treatment depends on the stage of the fungal infection. In some cases, a two-week therapeutic course is sufficient. When treating tinea pedis, longer treatment will be required (at least 6 weeks).

When used intravaginally, the medicine in the form of a cream should be administered using an applicator. Treatment must be continued for 14 days. To eliminate otomycosis, soak a gauze turunda with the product and insert it into the ear canal.

Method of use of Ecodax and dosage regimen

According to the instructions, Ecodax is intended exclusively for external use.

Children over 16 years of age and adults apply the drug to the affected areas of the skin in an even thin layer until completely absorbed. The drug is applied once a day - in the morning or evening.

Wet areas in the folds of the skin must first be dried with gauze.

When treating onychomycosis, the cream is applied once a day under an occlusive dressing.

The duration of therapy is no more than two weeks. The only exception is the treatment of highly keratinized areas. In this case, treatment with Ecodax is allowed, according to reviews, for one and a half months.

How to treat onychomycosis with ointment?

The product has a slight odor and is well absorbed, which allows it to be used in the treatment of fungus of the skin and nail plates. If you have onychomycosis, you should first steam your nails. To do this, you need to dissolve a small amount of soap and salt in warm water. The steamed nail plate is cut with scissors, and hard-to-reach areas must be treated with a nail file.

Ecodax should be applied to the affected nail plate twice a day. The instructions recommend using the ointment for at least two months. For a more pronounced therapeutic effect, the product is applied under an occlusive dressing. It is necessary in order to block the access of oxygen and prevent the development of a bacterial infection.

Side effects of the drug

Antifungal medication for external use is usually well tolerated and does not cause side effects. Only in rare cases do patients notice the appearance of itching and burning in areas treated with Ecodax. Local allergic reactions in the form of urticaria, atrophy and hyperemia of the skin, and contact dermatitis develop in isolated cases.

If any side effect occurs, you should stop using Ecodax (ointment). In this case, the instructions recommend contacting a specialist who will help you choose another drug for further treatment of the fungal infection.
