Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

These anti-tuberculosis tablets have a bactericidal effect. The drug exhibits a blocking effect on the synthesis of mycolic acid, which ensures the acid resistance of tuberculous mycobacteria, and leads to cell death. In this case, the synthesis of phospholipids is destroyed, resulting in the formation of intra- and extracellular chelate complexes with the presence of divalent ions, inhibiting oxidative processes and the production of deoxy- and ribonucleic acids.

Ftivazid is characterized by high absorption. Reaching the maximum concentration in the blood can be detected after 1–2 hours. Plasma protein binding is up to 10%. The drug is able to penetrate the placental barrier and enter breast milk. metabolic process occurs in the liver. In this case, the main metabolite - isonicotinic acid hydrazide , which undergoes subsequent hydrolysis and acetylation. Excretion occurs mainly through the kidneys and a little through the intestines.

Pharmacological action of Ftivazid

Phtivazid has a pronounced bacteriostatic effect against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Phtivazid damages the membrane of mycobacteria, inhibits oxidative and metabolic processes, the synthesis of nucleic acids, and has an effect on mycobacteria outside and inside the cell.

Phtivazid is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, distributed evenly and quickly in tissues and organs, creating conditions for the therapeutic effect of the drug in various localizations of lesions.

Phtivazid is close in its properties and action to isoniazid, but has less toxicity in comparison with it, is absorbed and eliminated more slowly, and therefore the therapeutic concentration of Phtivazid is maintained longer in the blood and at a lower level.

As it is less toxic, Phtivazid is more often used in elderly and debilitated patients, in children and in cases of intolerance to streptomycin.

The effect of using Ftivazid occurs quickly. The patient's general condition improves, temperature and appetite normalize, cough decreases, and weight increases.
