Hexalization for children with inflammation of the mucous membrane of the throat

October 12, 2021 Last revised: December 20, 2021 Medicinal products

Hexalize is an antimicrobial drug used for infectious pathologies of the upper respiratory tract. The composition contains biclotymol, lysocine hydrochloride and enoloxone as active components. The drug is available in the form of yellow-orange tablets of a round shape with a chamfer, which are used for resorption by the sublingual method.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of lozenges, orange-yellow in color, sometimes with white or bright orange inclusions, round in shape, with a lemon taste and an indistinct odor. One package contains 30 tablets.

Each tablet contains the following active ingredients:

  • Biclotymol 5 mg has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects;
  • Lysozyme 5 mg improves mucosal regeneration and has a wound healing effect;
  • Enoxolone 5 mg (stimulates the body's own immunity, has anti-inflammatory and mucolytic effects).

These components are supplemented with excipients: lemon oil, sucrose, citric acid, orange-yellow dye S (E 110), magnesium stearate, gum arabic.

The drug is also available in the form of a spray called Hexasprey. The packaging of each spray includes: 30 g of suspension, a glass bottle with a plastic coating and a spray valve. One aerosol bottle contains 0.75 g of biclotymol.

Pharmacological properties of the drug Hexaliz

Combined preparation for local use in dentistry and otorhinolaryngology. The long-term antiseptic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect of the drug is due to its three active ingredients. Biclotymol has a bactericidal effect against staphylococci, streptococci, and coryneform bacteria. Coagulates proteins of microbial cells. Lysozyme is a mucopolysaccharide of natural origin, has an antibacterial effect against gram-positive bacteria, has antiviral activity, and enhances local cellular and humoral mechanisms of immune defense. By inhibiting histamine, lysozyme reduces the severity of the inflammatory reaction and also promotes faster removal of metabolic products from damaged tissues. Biclotymol and enoxolone determine the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect of the drug. The pharmacokinetics of the drug has not been studied. The components of the drug are very slowly resorbed by the mucous membrane, which ensures their continued presence in the oral cavity.

Operating principle

Hexaliz lozenges are a combination drug, the principle of action of which is determined by certain elements:

  • Biclotymol is an antiseptic component that eliminates pathogens in the oropharynx (staphylococci, streptococci, corynebacteria) by coagulation (clotting, thickening) of proteins in their cells. As a result, a long-lasting anti-inflammatory effect occurs.
  • Enoxolone - has local symptomatic analgesia and anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the sensitivity of the mucous membrane of the tonsils and pharynx.
  • Lysozyme is a natural protective factor produced by human glands. According to its chemical structure, it belongs to mucopolysaccharides. Stimulates local immunity in the mucous membrane of the pharynx and tonsils, helps neutralize and remove harmful toxins.

During the process of resorption of Hexalize tablets, the active substances are transformed into a film with which they envelop the mucous membrane of the throat. They are absorbed into the bloodstream so slowly that the result is a long-term local therapeutic effect.

“Hexaspray” also affects streptococci, staphylococci and corynebacteria. It has a local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect.

Effect of Hexalysis on periodontal biofilm

At the moment, many studies have been conducted on this drug, which have shown its high effectiveness. For example, it has been reliably known that the concentration of periodontal pathogens in dental plaque is significantly reduced when using these lozenges.

Firstly, Hexalize has a prolonged effect - while the patient dissolves the tablet and after, until he drinks. The active components remain in the oral cavity for a long time. The manufacturing company promised that the drug will be effective in the fight against pathogens of various etiologies, but the indications for use include mainly viruses, staphylococci, streptococci and corynebacteria.

The studies were carried out using Hexalyse exclusively, but full treatment was not an end in itself. Therefore, full results appeared much later than expected. Such pathologies should be treated only comprehensively using local and systemic agents.

As it turned out later, the product effectively fought pathogens that cause periodontal disease, and therefore patients felt significant relief from the condition of their gums. Taking into account also the anti-inflammatory effect, this drug has shown high effectiveness in the treatment of this pathology.

Indications

Hexaliz and Hexasprey are intended for local treatment of inflammatory processes and infectious lesions of the mucous membrane of the throat (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis), oral cavity (stomatitis, glossitis), gums (gingivitis). These drugs are also recommended after tonsillectomy to prevent infection during the postoperative period.

Features of treatment

Therapy lasts about 5 days, during which it is necessary to monitor the dynamics of recovery. If there are no positive changes or they are insignificant, then it is necessary to reconsider the drug treatment. Long-term use of the drug can cause oral dysbiosis, as well as the development of superinfection. The drug is not prescribed to patients with sucrase-isomaltase deficiency or a history of fructose intolerance.

Since the drug is an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent, it is successfully used in the treatment of laryngitis, pharyngitis, stomatitis and other inflammatory pathologies of the tissues of the oral mucosa and larynx. But, as the only medicine in the treatment of infectious and inflammatory pathologies, Hexalize is never used. It shows the greatest effectiveness when carrying out complex treatment.

The rules of use are carefully observed. Simultaneous use of lozenges, sprays, rinses, or immediately after topical application of any of the forms of this medication may reduce its effectiveness. It is also worth considering that the interval between different medications of this kind should be about 10-20 minutes.

It is also important to choose the right treatment regimen in pediatrics. Hexalize is a fairly serious drug, whose action can, if treated incorrectly, cause a deterioration in the condition, as well as various complications, for example, superinfection. The use of Hexaliz for children should be carried out in minimally effective therapeutic dosages. In general, indications for use are:

  • Diseases of the nasopharynx area;
  • Pharyngolaryngitis;
  • Pharyngitis;
  • Tonsillitis;
  • Glossitis;
  • Immediately after tonsillectomy.

Patients with diabetes mellitus should be aware that the drug contains sugar in the amount of 1.054 g per tablet.

Side effects

Subject to the rules of dosage and use, Hexasprey and Hexaliz for children are perfectly absorbed by the body. If the drugs are used incorrectly, the following side effects are possible:

  • Allergic rashes, sometimes with swelling and/or accompanied by itching. In rare cases, angioedema may occur. At this time, no examples of a dangerous allergic reaction such as anaphylactic shock have been identified;
  • With excessive use of products, there is a possibility of dysbiosis of the oral cavity and an increased likelihood of the spread of microbes and fungi throughout the body;
  • Superinfection.

Mode of application

Hexaliz tablets are used exclusively for resorption in the sublingual area. Carry out the process until the medication is completely dissolved. Adults need to take the tablet every two hours. The daily maximum is 8 tablets. Children are given a tablet every four hours.

The drug is designed for a quick effect, which is achieved in the first few days. It significantly reduces inflammation and eliminates pathogenic microflora in the affected area. At the same time, the pain in the inflamed areas is significantly reduced. Therefore, the effectiveness of the drug is assessed already in the first five days. If the product is highly effective, you can continue to use it until the end of the course, that is, no more than 10 days. After this, the likelihood of developing a bacterial or fungal infection that is resistant to the drug increases significantly.

The instructions for using the Hexalize tablet indicate that the drug can cause quite serious side effects. These include:

  • Allergic reactions of systemic type and local: burning, soreness, swelling (up to Quincke's edema);
  • Superinfection;
  • Dysbacteriosis of the oral cavity with prolonged use of the product.

The instructions warn that you cannot use other products containing biclotymol, lysozyme hydrochloride, or enoxolone simultaneously with this drug. Otherwise, there is a risk of severe side effects and overdose of the main components.

Other local drugs are not used simultaneously with Hexaliz. There is a risk of developing an allergic reaction, as well as a decrease in the effectiveness of the medications used.

In case of overdose, specific antidotes are not used. Only symptomatic treatment is used. If serious allergic reactions occur, do not use oral medications, since with swelling of the laryngeal tissue there is a risk of asphyxia with a fatal outcome. In such cases, an ambulance is immediately called and they are told how, when and in what quantities Hexalize was taken.

Application and dosage

The tablets are placed under the tongue until completely absorbed (without chewing or swallowing). It is recommended to give Hexaliz to children over 6 years of age, 1 tablet every 4 hours. The maximum daily dose is 4 tablets. Continue treatment until symptoms disappear, but not longer than 10 days. If no improvement is observed 5 days after starting to use the drug, you should consult a doctor.

When using Hexasprey for children, you should carry out 2 sprays 3 times a day, regardless of food intake. The duration of treatment should not exceed 10 days.

Hexalize

Hexalize (biclotymol + lysozyme + enoxolone) is a combined drug for topical use that has antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Used for local treatment of diseases of the mucous membrane of the oropharynx and larynx of infectious and inflammatory etiology caused by microorganisms sensitive to the active substances of the drug. Biclotymol is an antiseptic that is active against bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Corynebacterium. It has a local analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. Lysozyme is an enzyme of the hydrolase class that has an antibacterial effect. It is active primarily against gram-positive microorganisms; gram-negative bacteria are more resistant to this antimicrobial agent. Increases the activity of nonspecific immune defense factors of the body. It has anti-inflammatory and secretolytic effects. Able to bind to viruses, thereby exhibiting antiviral activity. Enoxolone is a complex triterpene derived from glycyrrhizic acid. Suppresses the action of the enzyme 11-beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, which deactivates cortisol. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral effects.

Pain and sore throat are constant companions of influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections. Discomfortable sensations in the upper respiratory tract that accompany the process of swallowing, a dry superficial cough - these symptoms are considered the hallmark of pharyngitis. Patients, as a rule, do not pay due attention to these signs of inflammation of the pharyngeal mucosa, trying to cope with them with local anesthetics and antiseptics in the form of lozenges, sprays and lozenges. Moreover, in 15-30% of patients with pharyngitis, this disease enters the chronic stage, which means an almost guaranteed relapse even with the slightest degree of hypothermia or immunosuppression. This usually happens during the cold season, when the incidence of ARVI experiences its seasonal boom. Chronication of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the upper respiratory tract most often occurs due to improper treatment.

Persons with weakened immune systems are understandably less protected, so the optimal treatment for them would be combination drugs that include antiseptics and immunostimulants. The drug Hexaliz, like no other, exactly meets these requirements. Produced in the form of lozenges, it contains an exclusive pharmacological combination of three active ingredients that give the drug a complex anti-inflammatory, analgesic and local immunostimulating effect. This allows hexalysis to fight not only the effect, but also the cause of the disease - bacteria and viruses. It is important that hexalize does not contain antibiotics, and the antiseptic biclotymol does not irritate the mucous membranes, which sets it apart from a number of other antiseptic components. The effectiveness of biclotymol literally increases by several orders of magnitude in the presence of two other active substances of hexalysis - lysozyme and enoxolone. When taking the drug, the concentration of the immune protein alpha-interferon increases in the patient’s saliva, providing natural protection against infection entering the body: as needed, it is almost immediately “involved” in the process of neutralizing bacteria and viruses. As clinical studies have shown, at the initial stage of acute respiratory infections, a reduced content of alpha-interferon was noted in the saliva of patients. However, already on the 3rd day of taking hexalyse, the level of this protein normalized, and on the 5th it completely rose above the previous level. In addition, patients taking Hexalyse had relapses 1.5 times less often than those treated with traditional antiseptics without immunostimulating components.

Hexaliz is recommended to take 1 tablet every 2 hours. The maximum daily dose is 8 tablets. Children over 6 years old are prescribed 1 tablet every 4 hours. The duration of the medication course should be no more than 10 days. The tablets should be dissolved until completely dissolved in the mouth.

Hexaliz tablets - application

For a medicine to be beneficial and not do any harm, it must be used correctly. The specifics of treatment with tablets are described in the instructions, but it will be better if the course of treatment is selected individually by the attending doctor. This way, the use of Hexaliz medication will be as effective as possible and will help you quickly cope with all the annoying and irritating symptoms.

How to take Hexaliz?

These pills do not need to be washed down, crushed or chewed. Hexalize is for resorption, so it should be kept in the mouth until the tablet is completely dissolved. The most convenient way is to hide it under the tongue. It usually takes a few minutes to dissolve. The taste of the tablets is quite pleasant, so the course of treatment with them will not cause the slightest discomfort.

During Hexalize therapy, it is necessary to take into account that in addition to the above-mentioned components, the medicine contains a gram of powdered sugar - it provides the taste - therefore, patients with high blood sugar or those who adhere to a strict diet and eat a minimum of carbohydrates should drink carefully. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, therapy can only take place if there are strict indications. Hexalization is strictly prohibited for children.

How long can Hexalize be used?

The product is very effective, and patients can notice the results of using it by the end of the first treatment. There is no need to quit therapy after seeing positive progress, but you should not delay the course of treatment, especially when taking Hexalize during pregnancy. The likelihood that this will be beneficial is minimal, but the risk of complications and side effects is high.

According to the standard, tablets can be used for no longer than 5-7 days

. If during this time it was not possible to recover and no positive changes occurred, Hexalize needs to look for a replacement. In exceptional cases, the course may be extended, but only with the permission of a specialist who has previously assessed the general picture of the patient’s health, and for the amount of time chosen by him.
