Indications for use –

  • in the treatment of periodontitis,

  • with injuries to the mucous membrane (including when wearing braces),

Pharmacology and pharmacodynamics

The gel helps fight inflammation, relieves pain and has an antimicrobial effect.

The active substance perfectly anesthetizes the area to which the gel was applied and eliminates inflammation. The analgesic effect lasts for 3-8 hours. Another active component has an antiseptic effect, killing harmful microorganisms.

The medicine has a certain structure, due to which it penetrates well into the tissue and remains on the oral mucosa for several hours. Almost does not enter the blood circulation.

Other strong gels for inflammation in the oral cavity -

Below we give as an example 2 other most powerful drugs that can be used to treat all of the above dental diseases. These drugs contain very high concentrations of active components - which is why it is not advisable to use them for a course of more than 10 days. These drugs are no less effective for treating inflammation in the oral cavity than the drug Cholisal.

PRESIDENT Effect oral gel –

  • instructions for use

  • manufacturer: Italy,
  • active ingredients – chlorhexidine 0.25%, chamomile, mallow extracts,
  • price from 230 rub. per tube 30 ml.

Comments: This gel contains a very high concentration of active ingredients. Extracts of chamomile and mallow in such concentrations have a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect, and a concentration of the antiseptic chlorhexidine of 0.25% has a pronounced antiseptic/bactericidal effect on pathogenic bacteria that cause inflammation.

For example, in a solution of Chlorhexidine for rinsing, its concentration is only 0.05%. The recommended duration of use is no more than 10 days (2-3 times a day). The rules for applying to the mucous membrane are similar to applying cholisal gel. After application, you must leave the gel for about 10-15 minutes, during which you should not drink.

Antiseptic gel Perio-Aid 0.12% –

  • instructions for use

  • manufacturer: Spain,
  • active ingredients: chlorhexidine – 0.12%, cetylpyridine – 0.05%, xylitol,
  • price for a 75 ml tube – from 270 rubles.

Comment: Perio-Aid gel contains very high concentrations of two antiseptics - chlorhexidine and cetylpyridine, which have a pronounced antiseptic / bactericidal effect, lasting up to 9 hours after a single use. An absolute plus is the xylitol content to reduce acidity in the mouth. The recommended course of use is 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 10 days.

The application regimen is the same as for Cholisal gel: after brushing your teeth and then rinsing the mouth with an antiseptic solution, you need to use a dry gauze swab to slightly dry the gum mucosa. Next, squeeze a small amount of gel onto your finger and apply to the inflamed gum. After application, it is advisable not to drink or eat for 1 hour. When to use

The gel is prescribed in the following cases:

  • stomatitis;
  • cheilitis;
  • damage to the integrity of the mucosa due to the use of prostheses or as a result of mechanical impact;
  • pain relief after dental surgery;
  • when teething in babies;
  • other damage and inflammatory processes in the oral mucosa.

What's included

It contains two main components – choline salicylate and cetalkonium chloride. The first performs an anti-inflammatory function. It penetrates into soft tissue to a sufficient depth, which distinguishes it from most other ointments and gels for gums. The second component is an antiseptic. It provides a pronounced antimicrobial effect, due to which it effectively destroys pathogenic microflora. It should be noted that the drug is not very effective against most viruses and fungi.

Adverse reactions and overdose

In rare cases, side effects may occur. A tingling or burning sensation may be felt at the sites where the ointment is applied. This reaction usually disappears after a few minutes. Various allergies may also appear.

No cases of overdose have been identified to date. The gel does not need to be swallowed, only used topically. If there is a lot of ointment on the mucous membrane, then you need to rinse your mouth well. If the composition gets into the gastrointestinal tract, you need to rinse the stomach. Treatment is carried out taking into account the existing symptoms.

How much does the drug cost?

As for how much Cholisal costs, the price will depend on the form of release. So, the cost starts from 350 rubles (10 g) and from 430 (15 g). A product called “Cholisal Dental” will cost only 250 rubles (15 g).

Thus, the drug is suitable for symptomatic maintenance therapy. It copes well with its immediate tasks: relieves pain, relieves inflammation and swelling. However, the gel is not a panacea for diseases; it cannot cure itself, since it has little effect on the cause of the pathological process. And remember that before using any medications, you should definitely consult your doctor.

Reviews

Regarding the use of the gel during teething, you can find mostly positive reviews. The drug quickly and effectively copes with inflammatory processes, relieves pain and cools the affected area. If you use the product the night before going to bed, its effect will last almost until the morning. It also has an antipyretic effect. For many, it is a plus that the composition does not contain lidocaine, since it can provoke various and severe allergies.

There are also many positive reviews when using ointment for stomatitis. Within 3-5 minutes you can notice a significant improvement in your condition, pain and discomfort disappear. Inflammation disappears 15-20 minutes after application. If you apply compresses before going to bed, you can quickly get rid of the problem and its symptoms.

Holisal Dental: instructions for use

Gel Cholisal - instructions for use published by the manufacturer are only general in nature, and therefore we have described in detail the method of using the drug in different clinical situations - for inflammation of the gums, for stomatitis, for teething... Please note that the drugs "Cholisal" and "Cholisal" Dental" have the same indications and methods of use.

How to use Cholisal gel for gum inflammation -

Gel Cholisal for gingivitis and periodontitis should be used only in complex therapy. The latter should first of all include the removal of dental plaque, a course of antiseptic rinses, and the use of anti-inflammatory toothpastes. In case of severe inflammation, antibacterial therapy is also prescribed.

If you start using the gel without removing the causative factor of inflammation (supra- and subgingival tartar, as well as soft microbial plaque), then at the beginning the inflammation will certainly decrease slightly, but this will only transform it into a sluggish chronic form. All this is fraught with accelerated destruction of bone tissue around the teeth and the appearance of their mobility.

Scheme for using Cholisal for gum inflammation

The standard course of treatment is usually 10 days. Gel application should be carried out 2 times a day - morning and evening (before bedtime). First you have breakfast, after which you need to brush your teeth well. After this, you need to rinse your mouth with an antiseptic solution of Chlorhexidine 0.05% for one minute. This will enhance the effectiveness of therapy and speed up the relief of inflammation. Next, you should proceed directly to the application of the gel itself.

Please note that before applying the gel, you should dry the gum mucosa with a dry gauze pad. This is necessary because the gel adheres better to the mucous membrane. Standing in front of a mirror, squeeze a little gel onto your finger and apply it to the marginal part of the gums (gingival papillae and the part of the gums directly adjacent to the teeth). To apply the gel, you can also use spatula-type tools, which is much more convenient.

The emphasis is on treating the front surface of the teeth, but nevertheless, it is also necessary to apply the gel from the lingual surface. After treatment, do not eat for 2-3 hours and do not drink for 30 minutes. After treatment, saliva will be released - do not accumulate it or spit it, but swallow it as it is released, just as it happens in everyday life. Repeat the treatment in the evening (before bed), also after oral hygiene and antiseptic rinsing.

Cholisal for stomatitis -

It makes sense to use Cholisal for stomatitis only to reduce the pain of erosions, but not to treat stomatitis. What is this connected with... In children and adults, the most common 2 forms of stomatitis are herpetic (Fig. 3-4), caused by the herpes virus, and aphthous (Fig. 5). Cholisal does not have any pronounced effect on viruses, although the manufacturer indicated in the instructions that the drug acts on some of them.

The aphthous form of stomatitis in most cases is of allergic origin, and therefore there is no point in using this gel here at all. Cholisal gel can be used for stomatitis only for symptomatic therapy - to reduce the pain of erosions. And the main treatment for viral stomatitis will be antiviral drugs, and for aphthous stomatitis - desensitizing (antiallergic) drugs.

What do different forms of stomatitis look like?

Cholisal for teething: reviews

Cholisal can be used in children and adolescents. But when teething in babies, this should not be done, because... Thanks to the anise content, the drug strongly stimulates salivation. This will cause the baby to choke on saliva (and therefore also cough), and saliva will flow from the mouth, causing irritation of the skin.

Before applying the gel, you should first dry the area of the mucous membrane with a dry gauze pad, then gently rub the gel into the mucous membrane with massaging movements. You can use the gel for these purposes 3-4 times a day. To relieve symptoms in young children, there are also special medications to relieve teething symptoms. These drugs come in the form of suppositories, tablets, and syrups.

If there is difficulty in the eruption of wisdom teeth -

When teething in adults, Cholisal can be used, but some points need to be taken into account. It will be safe to use Cholisal if you have pain during teething, but there must be no suppuration of the hood over the wisdom tooth.

If, during the eruption of a wisdom tooth, the patient already has such symptoms as: suppuration from under the hood, swelling of the cheek or mucous membrane, painful swallowing, painful opening or difficulty opening the mouth, temperature, the smell of pus from the mouth - you need to immediately go to the surgeon - to the dentist to cut the hood. This will help the pus to drain quickly and the inflammation to subside.

How to identify a delay?

When purchasing, check the product packaging and inspect the tube. Buy medical products only from official pharmacies.

Please read the information on the tube carefully. The expiration date must be clearly stamped on the seam.

IMPORTANT: if the numbers are not visible or blurred, do not use this product.

Next you need to pay attention to the organoleptic properties of the gel. A high-quality product smells pleasantly fresh and has a slight cooling effect upon contact with the skin and mucous membranes. If you have doubts about the quality of the drug, refrain from using it.

Precautionary measures

Cholisal for teething

Pharmadynamics

The drug exhibits local analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects. The main component helps reduce the activity of neutrophils and microphages, and also inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase and suppresses the production of prostaglandins. The analgesic effect of the drug after use occurs within 2-3 minutes. and remains for 2-8 hours.

The second active ingredient exhibits moderate activity against certain types of viruses and fungal infections that develop in an acid-base environment. The main and additional ingredients are practically not absorbed into the bloodstream.

How to store opened packaging?

Completely different conditions must be observed after damage to the protective membrane.

IMPORTANT: after opening, it is advisable to use the gel within 14 days. The tube should be stored in a cool place no higher than 15 degrees.

At room temperature the drug may lose its properties.

Put it in the refrigerator. Indicate the date of opening and expiration date. It's so easy to prevent using expired gel.

Treatment of periodontitis

The gel is used to treat both acute and chronic forms of the disease. Forms of using the gel:

  • gum massage;
  • applications.

For inflamed gum pockets, the gel is placed directly into them. Some people try to put more gel in order to heal faster - this should not be done. Follow the exact dosage indicated in the instructions.

The scheme for using Cholisal is the same: cleansing tartar, sanitation of the oral cavity, drying the mucous membrane and absorbing the gel into the gum tissue.

Price category of the product

Depending on where you purchase the product, the cost of Cholisal gel may vary. The price of the drug varies on average from 250 to 400 rubles per tube. It is worth noting that some pharmacy chains sometimes offer discounts. It is at this time that you can buy Cholisal cheaper. The price in this case is set by the network. It can range from 150 to 350 rubles.

Cholisal analogues

Synonyms

Synonymous drugs have a composition completely identical to Cholisal, the same pharmacodynamics, and chemical structure. They may differ only in the dosage of active ingredients per 1 g of medication and the release form (gel, rinse solution, etc.).

Best synonyms for Cholisal:

  • Stomatophyte;
  • Imudon;
  • Phytodent;
  • Rotokan;
  • Kalgel;
  • Novosept forte;
  • Dentinox;
  • Anginophyte;
  • Bronspray.

Only a doctor can choose the correct synonym and its dosage, based on the complexity of the disease.

Indications for use

Indications for use include many signs of teething in infants:

  • swelling of the gums;
  • redness of the eruption sites of baby teeth;
  • local increase in temperature of the mucous membrane;
  • signs of pain during teething - poor sleep, frequent awakenings, refusal to eat, increased moodiness, etc.;
  • hematomas in the gum area.

Stomatitis

Due to rapid absorption, which is the main characteristic feature of the Cholisal gel, all these manifestations decrease very quickly, and sometimes completely stop bothering the child.

Teething

Cholisal gel is not recommended for teething children - it causes excessive salivation. The product contains anise, which affects infants differently than adults. Excessive salivation will cause irritation on the child's chin.

For older children, the gel can be used, for example, when replacing baby teeth with permanent ones. Before use, you need to sanitize the child’s oral cavity, dry the inflamed gums with a cotton swab and rub the product into the mucous membrane with gentle movements (in a circular motion).

At what age can children use the gel? Doctors believe that after a year it is already possible to treat a child’s gums with Cholisal. However, the later you apply it, the better. This is due specifically to uncontrolled salivation. The baby may simply choke on his own saliva, and this is dangerous.

The modern pharmaceutical industry offers a wide selection of children's medications for stomatitis and inflammation of the gum mucosa; it is better to use them. For example, Kamistad has proven itself well for children. However, be careful with drugs containing anesthetics: they reduce sensitivity and the child may bite the tongue or lose control of the swallowing reflex and choke on saliva.

Another contraindication to the use of Cholisal for children is the salicylic acid contained in the composition. This acid is aggressive towards tooth enamel, which is especially sensitive in children. The baby's enamel coating may become thinner, and he will feel pain from hot/cold food. Salicylic acid effectively destroys germs and cleanses the oral cavity, but a side effect is the destruction of the enamel layer.
