Cough tablets Halixol

Compound

Halixol tablets contain the active substance mbroxol and auxiliary components:

  • lactose monohydrate;
  • microcrystalline cellulose;
  • polyvidone;
  • sodium starch glycolate;
  • Magnesium stearate.

Halixol syrup contains the active ingredient Ambroxol and auxiliary components:

  • sorbitol;
  • povidone K90;
  • citric acid monohydrate;
  • sodium cyclamate;
  • strawberry and banana flavors;
  • sodium benzoate;
  • sodium citrate;
  • purified water.

special instructions

Halixol should not be taken together with antitussive drugs, which may lead to difficulty in producing sputum.

The drug should be prescribed with caution to patients who have impaired bronchial motor function or have copious sputum production with a low degree of viscosity, because there is a high probability of stagnation of bronchial secretions.

Patients with diabetes should take into account that Halixol contains non-specific sweeteners, sodium cyclamate and sorbitol in small quantities.

The drug contains no alcohol.

The use of Halixol during breastfeeding should be suspended, since the drug is excreted in breast milk.

pharmachologic effect

Expectorant (mucolytic) drug.

Ambroxol is an active metabolite of Bromhexine and belongs to the group of benzylamine mucolytic agents. Stimulates an increase in the activity of hydrolytic enzymes and the cleavage of bonds between mucopolysaccharides.

The active substance of the drug improves the fluidity properties of sputum, as a result of which its viscosity becomes much lower, as well as its adhesive properties. Increases the excretion of trachiobronchial secretions .

Promotes surfactant development. The effect is observed 30 minutes after taking the drug.

Mechanism of action

Halixol improves lung ventilation
The drug Halixol has mucolytic and expectorant properties. Thanks to its active components, it helps to liquefy mucus. This process occurs due to the production of certain substances that break down the bonds between mucus cells.

The activity of the surface epithelium of the mucous membrane of the bronchi and lungs increases. This increases their motor ability. When you cough, it is easier for sputum to pass out. Halixol helps reduce inflammation, increase the protective properties of the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, and helps improve lung ventilation. There is no increased formation of mucus, bronchial spasms are reduced and, as a result, the patient’s condition improves.

Active substances are able to penetrate through the placenta to the fetus during pregnancy. During breastfeeding, they are found in high concentrations in mother's milk and the infant's cerebrospinal fluid. For these reasons, Halixol is not prescribed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics

Suction

Once in the body, the drug is almost completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability after administration is approximately 60%. Plasma clearance time is 2 hours.

Distribution

80 percent bound to plasma proteins. Penetration - through the placental barrier. During pregnancy, take with caution, since a concentration of the active substance in the fetus’s body was found to be four times higher than the concentration in the mother’s body.

In addition, the active substance passes into breast milk, which may affect the feeding process.

Metabolism

Takes an active part in the “first pass” metabolism through the liver.

Removal

The half-life is approximately seven hours. About 90 percent of the dose is excreted in the urine or as oxidized metabolic products of ambroxol .

Gel Cholisal – price, composition and analogues

The prices below are for 2021. Please note that the cost of the drugs "Cholisal" and "Cholisal Dental" will be very different - even despite the same composition and manufacturing plant. For CHOLISAL gel, the price in pharmacies starts from 350 rubles for a 10 gram tube, and from 430 rubles for a 15 gram tube.

At the same time, the price for CHOLISAL DENTAL gel will be only about 240 rubles per 15 gram tube. The only difference is that the package additionally includes an applicator for applying the gel to the oral mucosa. The change in price and packaging is most likely due to a decrease in purchasing power in Russia - to which the manufacturer responded by changing the price of the drug. Most likely, Cholisal in old packaging at a higher price will gradually disappear from pharmacies.

Cholisal gel: analogues in pharmacies... a complete analogue of this drug is Mundizal gel, but the cost of the latter exceeds the cost of Cholisal, and the contents of the tube are even smaller - only 8 grams. Unfortunately, there are no other analogues for the drug.

Cholisal: composition

Both Cholisal Dental and regular Cholisal have completely identical composition.

The content of active substances in 1 g of gel is → choline salicylate (87.1 mg), → cetalkonium chloride (0.1 mg).
Auxiliary ingredients – hyaetellose, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, glycerol, anise seed oil, ethanol, water.

Composition analysis – the active component “choline salicylate” is a derivative of salicylic acid.
It has an anti-inflammatory effect due to the fact that it blocks inflammatory mediators in the inflamed mucous membrane and gums (24stoma.ru). It has the property of penetrating deeply into the mucous membrane, which is very important because... Most other dental gels only act superficially on inflamed tissue. Also has an analgesic effect. The active component “cetalkonium chloride” is an antiseptic. It has a direct antimicrobial effect on pathogenic microorganisms (both gram-positive and gram-negative). Has weak activity against some fungi and viruses.

Nina, 32 years old “... My cough begins with the first slush and usually ends somewhere in Egypt. I have been suffering from this problem since my youth. Previously, I took simple Mucaltin for coughs and thought that this was quite enough. This year the situation worsened and I began to have complications, and the doctor prescribed me complex therapy using Halixol. This drug helped me a lot and now at the first sign of cough I start drinking it. A three-day course is enough for me to come to my senses.”

Igor, 40 years old “... I love hunting and fishing, so I spend a lot of time outdoors. Accordingly, I also catch a cough very often. I recently bought Halixol at a pharmacy on the advice of a pharmacist and was convinced that the medicine was good. The cough literally became quieter on the third day, and after five days it disappeared altogether. Now I’ll only buy these tablets for coughs.”
