The modern rhythm of life is closely associated with stress. The need to work, stand for many hours in traffic jams, use public transport, endure complaints from bosses and colleagues, meet society’s requirements for a “successful person” - all this inevitably leads to the development of chronic stress over time. To prevent neurotic conditions, you should use mild pharmacological sedatives as early as possible, already at the first symptoms of stress and chronic fatigue. The instructions for use for Novopassit syrup indicate that this is just such a remedy. The drug is not addictive, normalizes sleep, stabilizes the emotional state. Afobazole
The tablets belong to the drug group of tranquilizers. The drug is used to treat mental conditions such as anxiety and tension. The active microelement "Afobazole" has an antiphobic effect and reduces anxiety. It does not affect benzodiazepine derivatives, which does not lead to drowsiness, relaxation of striated muscles, deterioration of memory and concentration. The medication does not lead to the development of drug dependence.
The active component of the tablets has an anxiolytic effect and eliminates anxiety. The drug has no effect on benzodiazepines, and therefore does not cause drowsiness, loss of memory or concentration. The drug does not lead to drug dependence.
The active microelement is instantly and completely absorbed into the blood from the lumen of the upper digestive organs. It is well distributed throughout all tissues in the body. Afobazole is excreted by the kidneys; the half-life is about 45 minutes.
The tablets are taken orally whole, after meals. The average dose of the medication is 10 milligrams three times a day. The duration of therapy varies from two to four weeks. The cost of the drug is 450 rubles.

All of the listed remedies are only partial analogues of Novo-Passit. These are also combined preparations from herbal components, but including and excluding several components of novo-passit. In addition, you can take any component of the drug separately. Combining them yourself is not recommended due to the difficulty of selecting the appropriate dosage.
Reviews
Diana P .: “I have a very stressful job that requires constant attention and two small children. In order to get rid of tension and become less irritable, I periodically take Novopassit. For myself, I chose the drug in syrup form because I like its pleasant smell and taste. It seems that just these two facts can lift your spirits a little. It is very easy to take using a measuring cup. I take courses as needed and have not noticed any side effects.”
Psychiatrist: “Often, people who do not have any serious mental disorders come to outpatient appointments. Their irritability, decreased attention and emotional outbursts are caused by simple fatigue. For such people, it is most effective and safe to prescribe herbal preparations such as Novo-Passit. Many patients take it in the form of syrup, since tablets are often associated with illness, but the syrup has a pleasant taste and is much more pleasant from a psychological point of view to drink than tablets.”

- Hop fruit extract helps reduce emotional stress and has a mild antispasmodic and hypnotic effect.
- Black elderberry flower extract has a moderate diuretic, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect, and is effective against panic attacks, which manifest themselves physically as pain of unknown etiology.
The drug is available in the form of syrup, tablets and solution. The composition of Novopassit is similar, regardless of the form of release. The drug in the form of a solution contains 96% ethyl alcohol (ethanol), which accounts for about 12%.
The safe herbal composition of Novopassit allows the product to be used both independently and as part of complex therapy for the treatment of various nervous disorders and conditions in children, adolescents and the elderly. The peculiarity of the drug is that, unlike strictly prescription anxiolytics and tranquilizers, it is not addictive, and most patients do not suffer from withdrawal symptoms during the course of treatment.

Composition and mechanism of action of novo-passit
The active components of novo-passit are:
- Valerian officinalis rhizome extract.
The essential oils, tannins and organic acids contained in the plant have a special effect on the central nervous system (
in particular on the nerve cells of the brain
), enhancing the inhibitory processes in them.
This leads to a decrease in the excitability of the central nervous system
), as a result of which phenomena such as agitation, anxiety, nervousness, and so on disappear, that is, the person calms down.
As a result of all this, the process of falling asleep is easier, especially if before this the person has not slept for a long time due to increased nervous excitability. It is also worth noting that the extract of valerian rhizomes has a certain antispasmodic effect ( that is, it relaxes excessively contracted muscles of the internal organs
), which improves blood circulation in them. - Lemon balm herb extract.
The effects of lemon balm at the central nervous system level are similar to those of valerian.
The drug enhances inhibitory processes in the brain, thereby reducing increased nervous excitement and facilitating the process of falling asleep, as well as providing a certain anxiolytic effect ( reduces anxiety, restlessness and other experiences caused by various stressful situations
). In addition, lemon balm extract has a certain antidepressant effect, that is, it improves mood if a person is depressed or upset. Melissa, like valerian, has an antispasmodic effect. - St. John's wort herb extract.
It has a beneficial effect on many parts of the central nervous system, providing a sedative, antidepressant and anxiolytic effect. Eliminates increased nervous excitement, improves mood, normalizes sleep and increases the patient's mental stability. - Extract of leaves and flowers of hawthorn monopistillate.
Improves blood circulation in the myocardium (
heart muscle
), and also enhances the contractility of the heart.
In addition, the drug has a moderate calming effect and also reduces excessively high blood pressure ( especially if it has increased as a result of a stressful situation
). - Extract of passionflower herb (
passion flower ).
Has a calming and mild hypnotic effect. - Common hop fruit extract.
It has a calming, antispasmodic and mild hypnotic effect, and also improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system. - Black elderberry flower extract.
It has anti-inflammatory, mild analgesic and mild diuretic effects. - Guaifenesin.
A pharmacological drug that has a moderate anxiolytic effect. As part of combination therapy, it is used to treat various neuroses and anxiety conditions.
improving the functioning of the cardiovascular system
Pharmacodynamics
The pharmacological properties of novo-passit are associated with the effect on the body of each of the components that make up its composition. The most studied of all components is the synthetic component of novo-passit - guaifenesin.
Guaifenesin was developed as a mucolytic agent. Its mechanism of action is based on thinning sputum and improving its elimination; the drug is used for productive cough. In fact, guaifenesin is still an ingredient in many cough medications. However, post-marketing studies have shown that guaifenesin not only combats phlegm, but also reduces anxiety.
Plant components have been studied in less detail. They are applied largely empirically. The following is known about each of the plant components:
- Melissa is a sedative used for neurotic conditions. In addition, it has hypotensive, antiarrhythmic, vasodilating, antispasmodic and antiseptic effects.
- Valerian - has a relatively unexpressed sedative, antispasmodic and antihypertensive effect. Its value lies in potentiating the action of other sedative components. Valerian increases the effectiveness of other components.
- Hops is a sedative component that helps cope with insomnia, is an analgesic and antispasmodic. In addition, it contains large amounts of vitamin C, a natural antioxidant.
- Passionflower is a mild herbal tranquilizer that is also used to treat arrhythmias and asthma. In many collections it is used together with valerian and St. John's wort, since the latter enhance its effect on the body.
- St. John's wort - has a calming and hypnotic effect due to its antioxidants and cineole. In addition, it contains several antioxidants and has antimicrobial, choleretic and anti-inflammatory effects. Increases skin sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation.
- Hawthorn - has sedative properties due to the saponins and choline it contains. In addition, it contains vitamins, metabolic substances, helps reduce blood cholesterol levels, and has a diuretic effect.
- Elderberry is a mild sedative and hypnotic. By itself, it has little effect on the nervous system, but enhances the effect of other components. It has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and analgesic effect.
Thus, all of the listed components, in addition to the sedative, anti-anxiety and hypnotic effect, have a number of other properties, which helps to generally normalize the body’s activity.
Kinetic studies cannot be carried out, because The effect of the medication is due to the combined effect of all its constituent components.

Interaction with other drugs can give the following results:
- muscle relaxants – increases the risk of developing muscle weakness;

Novopassit can be taken in combination with most other sedatives of natural and chemical nature. Dosages, schedules, combinations should be selected by a doctor.
special instructions
Despite the fact that Novo-Passit is a herbal medicine, certain precautions must be taken when taking it. First of all, the drug should not be taken together with alcoholic beverages.
That is why alcoholism is a contraindication to prescribing the drug. This is due to the fact that some of the components are not compatible with ethyl alcohol. You should learn more about drinking alcohol together with Novo-Passit.
Novo-passit should not be taken with grapefruit juice. It has been proven that this particular juice enhances the toxic effect of St. John's wort on the liver. While taking Novo-Passit, you should avoid grapefruit altogether. In addition, St. John's wort is metabolized in the liver using enzymes of the cytochrome system. Most drugs bind to these same enzymes. Therefore, Novo-Passit should not be taken by people who take digoxin, warfarin, benzodiazepine tranquilizers, tricyclic antidepressants and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
Guaifenesin, which is part of novo-passit, can change the results of some laboratory tests. That is why, if it is necessary to donate blood or urine, Novo-Passit should be canceled at least two days before collecting biological materials.
Compatibility with alcoholic drinks
Ethyl alcohol, which is part of any alcoholic beverage, is itself a fairly powerful sedative and depressant. Despite the fact that a course of taking Novopassit syrup during withdrawal symptoms can significantly alleviate the condition of the patient’s nervous system, direct combination of syrup with alcoholic beverages should be avoided.
Depending on the amount of syrup drunk and the dosage, a rather deep sleepy state may develop, lasting from 12 to 14 hours. It is dangerous because when vomit is expelled (which is normal for any poisoning), a person may not wake up, resulting in death from asphyxia due to obstruction of the respiratory tract.
