pharmachologic effect

The active substance rifaximin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that irreversibly binds bacterial enzyme units and inhibits the synthesis of RNA, DNA and proteins. Due to this, the component exhibits bactericidal effects against sensitive bacteria. Alpha-Normix shows activity against gram-negative, gram-positive, aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.

Due to the mechanism of action, rifaximin reduces the pathogenic intestinal bacterial load in the gastrointestinal tract, reduces:

  • production of ammonia and other toxins by bacteria that negatively affect liver function;
  • increased proliferation of microorganisms during the syndrome of their excessive growth inside the intestine;
  • the number of bacteria in the colon diverticulum that are involved in inflammatory processes;
  • the severity of the antigenic stimulus, which can influence the development of chronic intestinal inflammation;
  • risk of infectious complications during intestinal surgery.

According to research, bacteria exhibit low resistance to rifaximin. The substance has low absorption from the intestinal mucosa, acts locally, and penetrates the blood plasma in low concentrations. Rifaximin binds to plasma proteins by 67%, is excreted by the intestines (to a greater extent) and the kidneys, and practically does not form metabolites.

Alpha-Normix drug

Alpha-Normix - is it an antibiotic or not?

According to the instructions for use, Alpha-Normix is an antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity, but it acts differently than all other drugs in the group. The medicine is not absorbed into the blood, but acts only in the intestinal lumen, therefore it is used to treat diarrhea, gastrointestinal (gastrointestinal) infections, salmonellosis, dysentery, diarrhea and the prevention of infectious complications after gastrointestinal operations.

Indications for use

The drug has the following indications for use (diseases and factors of use in therapy) specified in its instructions:

  • treatment of gastrointestinal infections caused by bacteria sensitive to rifaximin (the spectrum of rifaximin extends to Clostridium difficile, Clostridium spp, Peptostreptococcus spp, does not affect Clostridium perfrigens);
  • acute gastrointestinal infections;
  • traveler's diarrhea;
  • syndrome of excessive growth of microorganisms in the intestines;
  • hepatic encephalopathy;
  • symptomatically uncomplicated diverticular disease of the colon;
  • antibacterial therapy for chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract;
  • prevention of infectious complications during intestinal interventions.

Alpha-Normix for dysbiosis

If the functioning of the digestive organs is disrupted, the digestion process is disrupted, the synthesis of enzymes in the gastrointestinal tract is inhibited, food remains to rot in the intestines, causing unpleasant symptoms of diarrhea. Dysbacteriosis begins because food is not digested enough, pathogenic intestinal flora develops and bacterial overgrowth syndrome is formed. To eliminate the manifestations of this negative syndrome, Alpha-Normix is taken.

For acute infections

For non-invasive diarrhea, doctors often prescribe fluoroquinolone antibiotics, but due to their negative effects on the body, the drugs are not suitable for everyone. Alpha-Normix wins in this regard due to low suction. The drug accumulates in high concentrations in the feces, which effectively suppresses the activity of aerobic bacteria. It is used for therapeutic or prophylactic purposes and does not change the pharmacokinetics of other drugs.

Kinetic parameters

Is Normix Alpha absorbed? Reviews from doctors cannot answer the question posed. For this you should refer to the attached instructions. According to it, the antibiotic is practically not absorbed in the intestines (less than 1%), and, therefore, does not enter the systemic circulation. Therefore, the medication in question affects only the microflora of the mentioned organ, significantly reducing its level of pathogenicity. However, the drug rarely causes serious side effects.

After taking the drug, it is not detectable in the blood (sometimes it may be present in small quantities). At the highest daily dosage of 0.8 g, its peak concentration in the intestine is reached within 3 hours. The drug is also found in urine (less than 1%).

Directions for use and dosage

Doctors often prescribe Alpha-Normix - the instructions for use of the drug include information on how to use the medicine and its dosage. The latter depends on the type of disease, the age of the patient and the severity of the disease. Granules and tablets are taken orally, but granules are used to prepare a suspension, and tablets are consumed in the traditional way.

Preparation of the suspension

In order to prepare a suspension for administration, you need to take enough boiled water at room temperature. Shake the bottle with the dry substance well to mix the granules. After this, part of the water is poured to the half mark. Shake the bottle again so that the powder is well dissolved. Then you need to add water to the mark.

The prepared suspension should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 10 days. For comfortable use, a measuring cup is included in the kit. Do not store the finished mixture at elevated temperatures and use it after the indicated expiration date.

special instructions

In the instructions for use of Alpha-Normix there is a section with special instructions that should be carefully studied:

  • the drug is not used to treat intestinal infections caused by salmonella and shigella;
  • It is forbidden to take the drug if you have a fever or loose, bloody stools;
  • discontinue the drug if symptoms of diarrhea do not resolve within 48 hours or worsen;
  • when taking the medication, associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis may develop;
  • the patient's urine may turn red during therapy;
  • if superinfection develops, treatment is canceled;
  • the granules contain sucrose, so they should not be taken if you have hereditary fructose intolerance, sucrase-isomaltase deficiency, or impaired absorption of glucose and galactose;
  • According to doctors, the drug does not affect the concentration of attention and the speed of psychomotor reactions, but if dizziness or drowsiness occurs during treatment with Alpha-Normix, you should avoid driving and driving dangerous mechanisms.

Drug interactions

Antibacterial drugs cannot be combined with alcohol, even in small quantities. This provokes a toxic load on the liver and excretory system and can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the drug used.

Antibiotics of this group are characterized by an extremely low degree of systemic absorption (less than 1%), so negative reactions when used with other drugs are unlikely.

With a long course of treatment, the active ingredients of the drug can be absorbed into the blood and lead to urine turning dark red. This is a completely normal phenomenon and is not a sign of a kidney disorder. Most antibacterial agents of the rifamycin family have a similar feature.

If the treatment did not give the required result in the first three to four days of use, the inflammatory process may have been provoked by microorganisms that have developed insensitivity to the main active ingredient of the drug.

In this case, it is more appropriate to use other antibiotics to treat the infection.

During pregnancy

Doctors do not recommend the use of Alpha Normix during pregnancy. There is no data on its safety or effectiveness, although animal studies have shown its effects on fetal skeletal structure. It is unknown whether the active substance passes into breast milk, so therapy with the drug during breastfeeding is limited and prescribed after assessing the benefit to the mother and the risk to the child.

Medic

Pharmacological influence

This drug is based on the substance rifaximin, which is an antibiotic. The main sphere of its influence extends to the elimination of signs of diarrhea and the prevention of the penetration of pathogenic microbes into the body in the period after surgery.

"Alpha Normix" cannot enter the bloodstream, therefore, an overdose is impossible. It is able to penetrate here only with injuries to the gastrointestinal tract and bleeding.

This drug acts primarily in the intestinal lumen. The main way it influences pathogens is by inhibiting their reproduction. The drug is included in the chemical process of producing the nutrients required by microbes and slows it down, thus causing their death. "Alpha Normix" eliminates the causative agents of cholera, typhoid fever, salmonellosis, dysentery, eliminates signs of acute food poisoning and diarrhea.

It accumulates gradually in the body, concentration occurs in the intestines, and is excreted during defecation. In accordance with the instructions, this antibiotic is not recommended to be consumed simultaneously with alcohol, as the inhibition of the nervous system will increase. Apathy, lethargy and drowsiness may also occur. During treatment with Alpha Normix, you should not work with any dangerous mechanisms or in areas where high concentration of attention is required.

Alpha Normix tablets instructions for use

The drug helps relieve diarrhea that occurs during travel. Since this drug is an antibiotic, dysbacteriosis or dysbiosis may occur after a therapeutic course. This is due to the fact that in the intestines and stomach, both pathogenic and partly beneficial bacteria are destroyed, which, in turn, are responsible for the normal digestive process and maintaining optimal microflora in the lower parts of the digestive tract.

"Alpha Normix" should not be taken along with sorbents, as this may cause a weakening of the therapeutic effect. It is better to take it after treatment with antibiotics as one of the rehabilitation courses.

"Alpha Normix" is also suitable for preliminary preparation for operations in the rectal area and in the peritoneal cavity

Should be taken with caution by people with serious liver and kidney diseases

If the body’s resistance to infections of the digestive system is weak, it can be taken in courses as a preventive measure, half a tablet two to three times a day.
