The drug "Gayro": instructions for use and reviews

Gairo is a drug that provides antiprotozoal and antimicrobial effects. Like its analogues, Gairo promotes damage and inhibition of the synthesis of simple nucleic acids, destroys the membranes of microorganisms, thereby provoking their death.

The drug Gairo is available in the form of film-coated tablets, each of which contains 500 mg of the active substance - ornidazole.

Gayro's analogues for the active component are Ornion, Quinizol, Ornidazole, Dazolic.

Which is better, "Gayro" or "Ornidazole"?

One tablet contains 500 mg of ornidazole. The active ingredient ornidazole is a derivative of imidazole (an organic compound). These two concepts are synonymous, since “Gayro” is the name of the drug, and ornidazole is the healing substance. It is worth noting that the drug called “Ornidazole” has the same indications for use. The only difference is in the manufacturer, price and result. "Ornidazole" is less effective than "Gayro". The doctor will decide what is best to prescribe.

The drug "Gayro" is considered an effective remedy in the treatment of infectious diseases that were caused by:

  • anaerobic cocci;
  • bacteria, fusobacteria;
  • clostridia;
  • trichomonas (a parasite that causes a disease such as trichomoniasis);
  • Gardnerella vaginalis (anaerobic parasite, represents the only type of parasitic microorganisms);
  • Giardia;
  • dysenteric amoeba;
  • individual strains of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori.

"Gayro" differs from "Ornidazole" in that it has a better effect from therapy.
The mechanism of action of the tablets can be described by the ability of the active substance to harm the DNA structure of bacteria, with low sensitivity, leading to their death. Some time after taking the medicine orally, the healing substance is 95% absorbed in the intestines. "Gyro" is excreted through the kidneys after the first 5 days, with the remaining 5% of non-absorbable components being excreted in their original form.

The form in which the drug is produced

"Gyro" are green tablets. The shape has an oblong configuration with bulges on both sides. Externally there is a covering-shell. In addition to ornidazole, the outer shell of the tablets contains cellulose and lactose, povidone, sodium sulfate, talc (purified), magnesium, and silicone dioxide. The packaging is available in blisters of 3 and 10 tablets. The number of blisters in a package may vary (1, 4, 7, 10).

Compound

The main active ingredient of the drug "Gayro" is ornidazole. It is this substance that provides the entire therapeutic effect of the drug, possessing a wide spectrum of antiprotozoal and antibacterial activity. In addition to ornidazole, the composition includes excipients - lactose, cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, talc, povidone, croscarmellose. To make the shell, opadry is used - a chemical substance consisting of hypromellose, macrogol-400, titanium dioxide and aluminum varnishes based on dyes - quinoline yellow and brilliant blue.

Indications for treatment

The drug "Gayro" is effective in the fight against pathogenic microorganisms, therefore it and similar drugs are usually prescribed for diseases of trichomoniasis (for example, vaginitis, urethritis), amebiasis, dysentery and giardiasis (diseases that develop after damage to the small intestine by pathogenic bacteria). Tablets are prescribed for the treatment of infections where the causative agents are anaerobic bacteria (septicemia, peritonitis), in ophthalmology. The effectiveness of the medicine has been proven for prophylaxis before and after operations to avoid the development of complications and infections. Doctors practice prescribing the drug in combination therapy, for example, in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis in women.

Indications

The drug "Gayro" is used for diseases such as:

  • Trichomoniasis is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world, causing urethritis and reproductive problems.
  • Giardiasis (or giardiasis) is an intestinal infection that affects a huge number of people. Causes gastrointestinal disorders.
  • Intestinal and hepatic amebiasis, dysentery are infections caused by amoebas living in the intestines - protozoan parasites. Accompanied by diarrhea, and in some cases the formation of abscesses in the liver.
  • Gastroduodenitis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, the development of which is rooted in the activity of the Helicobacter pylori bacterium.

Gairo is also prescribed before certain operations on the uterus, stomach and intestines - those organs whose cavities normally contain a large number of bacteria. Bacterial complications of such surgical interventions are another indication for the use of ornidazole.

Directions for use and dosage

The dosage of Gairo or Ornidazole depends on the patient’s weight, and the course of treatment lasts no more than one week.
The method of application is oral administration. The tablets have a bitter taste, so it is advisable to swallow without chewing. The dose for adults is determined depending on the disease and the severity of its course. For children - based on weight. During treatment of trichomoniasis for an adult, a dose of 0.5 grams is prescribed 2 times a day and is gradually increased to 1.5 grams. The course lasts about 5 days.

When treating vaginitis, the duration of the course increases to 7 days. The adult dose of the drug is 1 gram 2 times a day. To treat giardiasis, take 1.5 grams once a day, treatment duration is up to 2 days. For amoebic dysentery, the medication is prescribed to be taken once a day for 3 days. For prevention purposes (before operations or auxiliary therapy), patients take 0.5-1 grams, then 500 milligrams per day for up to 5 days (postoperative period).

Side effects

Patients may experience the following side effects from using this drug:

  • headache and dizziness;
  • drowsiness;
  • tremors (rapid movements of the limbs caused by muscle contractions);
  • convulsions;
  • nausea and vomiting, diarrhea and other types of gastrointestinal disorders;
  • muscle rigidity;
  • skin itching;
  • irritability.

"Gayro", unlike "Ornidazole", has more restrictions on treatment.

Contraindications and overdose

"Gayro" is categorically not recommended if the patient has epilepsy, glucose-galactose malabsorption, lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, severe nervous system disorder, or leukopenia. In turn, signs of exceeding the dose of the drug are depression, neuritis, epileptiform convulsions (fits). In case of overdose, you should consult a doctor, he will prescribe symptomatic treatment. For convulsions, the medicine “Diazepam” is prescribed.

Compatibility with other drugs

Compatibility with other drugs is quite possible, since Gairo does not conflict with or affect other drugs. The only thing that the instructions warn about is that ornidazole enhances the effect of the coumaron anticoagulant when taken simultaneously, and also prolongs the special effect of bromide.

«Prescription goods

" - this is how Prescription ones are marked, i.e.
drugs that require a special document - a prescription. The doctor writes the prescription. How do you even know if you need a prescription for the drug?
Whether the drug is prescription or not is stated in the instructions for use. In addition, such information is always indicated on the packaging. Of all drugs registered in Russia, approximately 70% are prescription drugs. In an ideal world, the doctor knows by heart which drugs require a prescription and which do not. But in harsh reality, very often such information has to be verified independently. Therefore, when a doctor advises you on any medications, you can check them online right at your appointment and immediately ask for a prescription.

The prescription remains at the pharmacy

There is a list of drugs that are subject to strict registration. As a rule, these are medications containing narcotic or psychotropic substances included in a special list. Prescriptions for such drugs always remain in the pharmacy in order to control their sale. The circulation of narcotic substances is checked not only by Roszdravnadzor, but also by the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. But now, according to the new dispensing rules, the pharmacy must also keep prescriptions for certain medications (antidepressants, tranquilizers, antipsychotics, sleeping pills and sedatives, as well as alcohol-containing medications with an alcohol content of more than 15%)*.

Can I get medications if the prescription is not for me?

Yes. Almost all medicines are dispensed simply to the bearer of a prescription. Both the patient himself and his friend, relative, or just an acquaintance can get the drug at the pharmacy. The main thing is to have a recipe. An exception is made only for narcotic or psychotropic drugs. Prescriptions for such drugs are written out on a special form No. 107/u-NP. It is easy to distinguish from other recipes because it is pink in color. When receiving such drugs at a pharmacy, you must have a power of attorney to receive medications and a passport confirming that you are the one for whom the power of attorney was issued. At the same time, the Ministry of Health especially notes that the power of attorney can even be handwritten. You can write in it that “I trust such and such to receive such and such medications according to such and such a prescription to such and such a person.” And be sure to indicate the passport details of this person. In addition, it must indicate the date of its compilation. Notarization of such a power of attorney is not required.

Analogues of the drug

The main prototype of "Gayro" is considered to be "Ornidazole" from a Russian manufacturer. It is believed that Ornidazole is less effective against bacteria, but the speed of action is greater. Next on the list is Ornisid, made in Turkey. The spectrum of action is smaller than that of the previous drug - it fights only trichomoniasis, giardiasis and gardnerella, but is useless for treating anaerobic bacteria. And the strongest analogue is considered to be “Tiberal”, the country of origin is Türkiye. Has 100% healing ability.
