pharmachologic effect
The antifungal agent has a fungicidal effect against pathogenic yeast-like fungi of the genus Candida. The drug contains a large number of conjugated double bonds, which are characterized by increased tropism for sterol compounds of the fungal plasma membrane. By interacting with them, double bonds increase the permeability of the cell wall, which leads to the exchange of cytosolic components with the external environment and cell lysis.
The product is effective against Trichomonas and Candida albicans strains. Once inside, the components of Levorin are practically not absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, and therefore are not metabolized in the liver or other organs. They are excreted unchanged through the intestines with feces. There are no other data on the pharmacokinetics of the drug.

Instructions for use of Levorin
Each form of release of the product has its own instructions for use. Thus, the ointment is used with caution in children under two years of age. For prostate hypertrophy in men, the use of Levorin reduces dysuric symptoms and sometimes the size of the adenoma. It is possible to use the drug as an additional drug in the treatment of prostate hypertrophy. When treating with tablets, liver function is regularly monitored during the course.
If severe side effects develop, drug therapy is discontinued and a substitute is prescribed instead. You cannot select the medicine yourself or change its dosage - this should only be done by a doctor. Some formats are used for gargling and mouthwash for candidiasis. In this case, due care must be taken so that the medicine does not enter the esophagus or respiratory tract.
Pills
According to the instructions, Levorin tablets can be used orally. Examples of dosages:
- For candidiasis of the intestines or other organs of the digestive tract, the drug is prescribed 1 pc. up to 4 times a day for a course of 10 days. In severe forms of the disease, treatment lasts 12 days.
- For children under two years old, the dosage is 25–30 thousand units per kg of body weight per day, 2–6 years old – 20–25 thousand units per 1 g of weight, over 6 years old – 250 thousand units 4 times a day. Therapy lasts a week, sometimes extended to 14 days.
- For local mucosal candidiasis caused by yeast-like microorganisms, tablets of 500 thousand units can be used. Adults take 1 tablet 4 times a day, children 3–10 years old take a quarter of a tablet, 10–15 years old take half a dose, after 15 years an adult dosage is prescribed. The course of treatment is 1-2 weeks.
According to reviews, the product effectively copes with mucus formation and the accumulation of thrush. Before use, doctors do an analysis of the sensitivity of microflora to the drug. For children's use, you can use a suspension - it is made from a powder having a concentration of 2-4 million units of levorin per bottle. Chilled water is added to the contents to the mark and shaken until smooth before each use. One teaspoon (5 ml) of the resulting solution contains 100 thousand units. The dosage of the suspension is no different from tablets.
Ointment
As stated in the instructions, Levorin ointment is used externally or as a rinse. For paronychia, erosions in the interdigital area, lesions of skin folds with peeling against the background of the growth of yeast-like fungi, apply it to the skin 1-2 times a day for 7-10 days. For diseases of the oral cavity or inflammation of the mucous membrane, the ointment is diluted 1:500 and used for rinsing.
The solution is applied up to three times a day for a three-week course. If the genital organs of women are affected (the fungus has settled on the mucous membrane), use the same remedy. Soak a cotton swab with the solution and insert it into the vagina. Treatment lasts 15–20 days. Levorin is contraindicated for use in case of uterine bleeding; this reduces the effectiveness of the drug and can aggravate the problem.
