Rozamet ointment is a medicine indicated for the treatment of diseases of a dermatological nature, the symptoms of the pathology are the occurrence of rashes and inflammatory processes. The list of things the medication helps with is quite extensive. The drug is often prescribed for bedsores, diagnosed eczema and dermatitis.
The medication is effective in combating unpleasant symptoms. The remedy significantly brings the moment of recovery closer and relieves discomfort. The medicine can be used to treat comedones, acne and papules.
The basis of Rosamet is metronidazole, which minimizes the likelihood of side effects and allergies. The ointment is used topically; if necessary, complex treatment is possible, carried out together with other drugs.
Composition and release form
Rozamet ointment is a white, thick, dense mass that does not have a specific odor. It is well and quickly absorbed into inflamed tissues and does not leave greasy marks on clothes. A Croatian manufacturer produces a drug with a concentration of active substance of 1 percent.
It is packaged in 25 g aluminum tubes with a cone-shaped protrusion on the cap for easy opening. Instructions for use are included with the package, but the applicator is not included in the package.
The active ingredient of the cream is metronidazole from the clinical-pharmacological group of antiprotozoal and antibacterial agents. This is not a hormone, not a synthetic glucocorticosteroid.
The auxiliary composition of Rozamet consists of several ingredients:
- propylene glycol;
- purified water;
- methylparaben;
- propylparaben;
- wax;
- glycerin.
Metronidazole is an antibacterial substance used for many infectious diseases.
Auxiliary ingredients enhance the effect of metronidazole by forming a protective film. It is impermeable to pathogenic microorganisms, but allows moisture and oxygen to pass through well. And propylene glycol, which acts as a preservative, also exhibits antiseptic activity.
Pharmacological properties
Rozamet, or rather its active ingredient metronidazole, has a powerful antiprotozoal effect. It blocks the secretion of special enzymes by single-celled protozoan microorganisms. This causes disruption of DNA synthesis. Protozoa lose their ability to grow and reproduce, and therefore soon die.
The drug also inhibits pathogenic bacteria that penetrate the inflamed sebaceous glands. It is also characterized by other pharmacological properties:
- relief of subacute and chronic inflammatory processes;
- resorption of edema;
- preventing the destruction of dermal and epidermal cells by free radicals.
By suppressing inflammation, the intensity of burning, itching, and pain is reduced. Dry skin, as well as the excessive peeling caused by it, also disappears. As a result of improved blood circulation, accelerated restoration of damaged tissues is observed.
List of ingredients
The main component of the cream is the well-known drug metronidazole, an antibiotic of the nitrofuran group. It is highly effective in treating fungal and bacterial infections.
The cream has a highly effective medicinal composition
In addition, the cream contains:
- glycerin - moisturizes and nourishes the skin, prevents the cream from stratifying, stabilizes it;
- propylene glycol – an additive that softens and protects the skin;
- emulsifying wax;
- preservative E 218 (methyl parahydroxybenzoate);
- preservative E 216 (propyl parahydroxybenzoate);
- liquid paraffin (mineral oil);
- purified water.
What does Rosamet ointment help with?
The main indication for therapy with Rozamet is acne. This is a disease of the sebaceous glands, characterized by blockage and inflammation of the hair follicles. The pathology is multistage, and during its course relapses are replaced by exacerbations.
Acne, rosacea and acne in adults are the main indications for the use of Rosamet cream. But the cream effectively copes with all clinical manifestations of acne:
- small acne;
- closed and open comedones;
- papular and pustular acne;
- nodular and cystic formations.
Dermatologists also prescribe the cream when diagnosing rosacea in patients. The second name of the disease is rosacea. This is a persistent lesion of the face, the leading symptom of which is redness of the skin. Rozamet helps to quickly get rid of pustules, bright pink rashes, and vascular patterns. Its course use allows you to avoid irreversible thickening and infiltration of the skin of the nose, forehead, and chin.
The drug can be used for demodicosis. This skin lesion is caused by conditionally pathogenic parasites - mites of the genus Demodex. They live in hair follicles, in the sebaceous glands of the skin and, when activated, provoke inflammation. But Rozamet is not able to destroy ticks. The drug is used exclusively to eliminate the symptoms of the disease.
Demadecosis is a disease caused by a microscopic mite
Therapeutic action and effects
The mechanism of action of Rozamet on foci of inflammation in the form of comedones and acne has not been fully studied, but it has been reliably established that it is in no way connected with the life cycle of the demodex mite. It should be noted that as a result of the studies, no influence of the components of the medication on the quantity or quality of the secretion produced by the sebaceous glands was found. According to some data, the main substance of the ointment is distinguished by an increased level of activity directed against oxidants.
Contraindications
The drug has only one absolute contraindication - individual intolerance to one of the components. It is not recommended for use in early pregnancy. The manufacturer did not provide data on the absence of teratogenic effects in Rozamet.
It is not advisable to carry out treatment during lactation. There is no data on the ability of the ingredients to pass into breast milk. If there is an urgent need to use the cream, it is advisable to stop feeding during therapy.
The cream should not be used by nursing mothers and women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Other means
Analogue of Rosamet cream
There are several drugs with the same effect, for example:
- Metrogyl is suitable for the treatment of vaginal infections, helps with advanced fungal infections;
- Rozex - a more concentrated composition, it can be used for poorly healing wounds, burns, and treats seborrhea. But it has a negative effect on the gastrointestinal tract, nervous and genitourinary systems, and allergies may occur;
- oflomelid helps relieve inflammatory processes, regenerates tissue;
- oflocaine, the main components are ofloxacin and lidocaine, an antimicrobial and analgesic drug;
- Tinidazole is a broad-spectrum antibiotic;
- zoacid - effective in the treatment of amebiasis and other protozoal infections.
Instructions for use
The instructions for use of Rosamet cream recommend using it as prescribed by a doctor. He will calculate the dose and determine the optimal duration of treatment. The dermatologist will take into account the type of disease, severity of symptoms, and general health of the patient.
Before the procedure, you should thoroughly wash your skin with warm water and soap. It must be dried, otherwise the effectiveness of the drug will decrease somewhat.
Next, you must act in accordance with the instructions:
- remove a strip of product about 1-2 cm long from the tube;
- spread the cream evenly, in a thin layer, only on the inflamed areas of the skin;
- rub it lightly in a circular motion;
- Remove any remaining drug with a sterile cloth.
The optimal time for treatment is morning and evening (before bedtime). It is during these hours that restoration processes in the dermis and epidermis are most active. Rozamet should be used for no longer than 2 months due to the high risk of addiction. It is possible to repeat the therapeutic course only in agreement with a dermatologist after a short break.
The cream is used 1-2 times a day, depending on the instructions of the attending physician.
The first therapeutic effects appear after approximately 2-3 weeks of constant use of the cream. If the severity of symptoms does not decrease after a month, you should consult a doctor. He will clarify the diagnosis, increase the dose or replace Rozamet with a product with a different active ingredient.
Rozamet for children
Children's age is not included in the list of absolute contraindications for Rozamet. However, it is practically not used in pediatrics. There is no data on the safety of the cream for this group of patients. Therefore, it can only be prescribed to a child over 12 years of age. During treatment, his condition should be monitored by a doctor and parents.
Overdose
The components of the cream penetrate the systemic bloodstream in small quantities. Therefore, in clinical practice, there have been no cases of overdose with Rozamet. A similar pathological condition is possible when the drug is swallowed. It is necessary to quickly rinse the stomach and take activated carbon, Enterosgel, Smecta. Then you should consult a doctor for symptomatic treatment.
Side effects
Rozamet's ingredients are not detected in the bloodstream, so the development of systemic adverse reactions is unlikely. Local allergic reactions are rarely observed. They manifest themselves as irritation, redness of the skin, the formation of rashes and swelling. Itching, pain, and burning sensations may occur.
Side effects such as allergic reactions occur
When applied to the forehead or cheeks, the drug sometimes increases the production of tear fluid. You need to stop using the cream and seek medical help.
special instructions
During the treatment period, you should not stay in the open sun for a long time. Failure to comply with this rule increases the likelihood of skin hyperpigmentation in areas where the cream is applied. If the drug gets into your eyes or eyelids, rinse them quickly with cool water.
Some drugs containing metronidazole are used in the treatment of hemorrhoids. They are especially in demand when a secondary bacterial infection attaches to damaged tissue. But Rozamet is not directly used to treat hemorrhoids.
Storage conditions and periods
The shelf life of the medicine is 2 years. To eliminate the possibility of a bacterial infection, you should use the cream for 2 months.
Rozamet should be stored at room temperature, protected from sunlight. Its unsuitability for treatment is indicated by delamination, changes in color and odor. Access to the place where the drug is stored should be limited for small children.
A change in the structure of the cream after long-term storage may indicate its unsuitability
Conditions for dispensing from pharmacies
To purchase the drug, you do not need to present a prescription from a doctor to the pharmacy employee.
Drug interactions
Rozamet can be combined with any local and systemic agents used in acne treatment. But it must be applied 20-30 minutes after applying other ointments or antiseptic solutions.
Patients' opinions
Reviews for the drug are mostly positive. Doctors note that the drug really eliminates the inflammatory process and rashes. Buyers confirm: the effect of the cream appears after a few days, there is a noticeable improvement even with large blackheads and acne, and the spots from them also disappear. They note that the cream does not dry out the skin and has few side effects. There are reviews that claim that the drug helped with the treatment of rosacea, bedsores, vulvovaginitis and other problems. There are also negative reviews that note the appearance of new pimples, and the old ones dry out, but do not completely go away. But such reviews are rare.
Rosamet cream effectively eliminates pimples, blackheads and blemishes, leaving the skin bright and smooth. You can combine Rosamet cream with folk remedies or combine it with lotions and tinctures of medicinal herbs for whitening and improving the structure.
Analogs
If the ingredients of Rozamet are intolerant, the dermatologist replaces it with analogues - Baziron, Skinoren, Cynovit. Oflokain and Ugrisept have similar therapeutic properties. The cheapest analogues of Rozamet are all products from the StopAcne therapeutic line.
Skinoren is a drug with similar indications for use
Reviews
Yulia, 34 years old, Novorossiysk
Rozamet copes well with both small pimples and large acne. I always use the product at the first sign of acne worsening. I apply a thin layer of it to the reddened area of the skin and rub in lightly. This helps prevent pimple formation, irritation and pain.
Violetta, 22 years old, Krasnodar
Before Rozamet, I used various anti-acne drugs in the form of ointments, gels, and solutions. But only this cream helped me. True, the dermatologist immediately warned that it should not be applied to the skin often. Therefore, I use the product only when large rashes appear on the face.
