The shelf life of the product is 3 years. It should be stored in a dry, dark place at a temperature of 25°C.
Pharmacological properties
Proroxan is an alpha-blocker that reduces the degree of excitability of the processes that set blood vessels in motion. The drug blocks adrenergic impulses and inhibits alpha receptors, which leads to the expansion of the walls of blood vessels and capillaries and, accordingly, to improved blood circulation and tissue nutrition. In addition, the remedy:
- helps reduce blood cholesterol levels by affecting water and electrolyte balance;
- normalizes blood pressure.
Pharmacological effects
According to the instructions, “Pirroxan” blocks adrenergic receptors, exhibiting its activity through its effect on central and peripheral adrenoreactive structures. This medicine is effective in reducing the action of adrenergic impulses. It is excellent for relieving spasms, dilating smooth muscle arterioles and capillaries.
The active component of the drug reduces the level of excitability of the deep brain structure, normalizing the tone of the sympathetic nervous system.
According to the instructions for use of "Pirroxan", it is effective in the treatment of many diseases that are associated with impaired functionality of the nervous system. In addition, this remedy eliminates the burning sensation and eliminates itching, which are often faithful companions of dermatoses and various allergic reactions. The drug also minimizes the level of anxiety and also eliminates mental stress in patients who are prone to panic attacks and depression.
Indications for use

Blocks postsynaptic alpha1 and presynaptic alpha2 adrenergic receptors. Has peripheral and central influence. Weakens the transmission of adrenergic vasoconstrictor impulses, eliminates spasm and dilates peripheral vessels, especially arterioles and precapillaries. Suppresses the excitability of diencephalic brain structures and regulates the tone of the sympathoadrenal system.
Indications for use
Hypertensive crisis, diencephalic crisis of the sympathoadrenal type, Meniere's syndrome, sea and air sickness, withdrawal symptoms (morphine and alcohol), anxiety-depressive syndrome, allergic dermatoses.

The duration of treatment and dosage of the drug are prescribed by the attending physician depending on the established diagnosis and the nature of the course of the disease.
So:
- to normalize blood pressure, the drug is prescribed in a dosage of 15 mg per day (taken once or in several doses);
- during a hypertensive attack, the medicine is used in a dosage of 15-30 mg, depending on the severity of the manifestations;
- when treating allergies and dermatitis, take one to two tablets per day;

The dosage when treating children is selected by a pediatrician according to the age and weight of the child.
As part of complex therapy for certain diseases, the dosage is selected taking into account the medications taken by patients.
Directions for use and dosage
Depending on the dosage form, Pirroxan is used orally, subcutaneously and intramuscularly.
When relieving hypertensive and diencephalic crises, the following is usually prescribed:
- Adults – 20-30 mg orally or 2-3 ml of 1% solution subcutaneously or intramuscularly;
- Children - 10-20 mg or 1-2 ml of 1% solution intramuscularly.
To prevent crises, Pirroxan tablets are usually prescribed. The frequency of taking the drug for adult patients is 2-3 times a day, a single dose is 15-30 mg; for children, the doctor usually selects the dosage individually based on age.
To prevent seasickness and air sickness (sickness syndrome), Pirroxan, according to the instructions, should be taken orally 30-40 minutes before the trip, 15-30 mg (1-2 tablets).
For morphine withdrawal, the drug is taken orally for 5 days, 3 tablets three times a day, alcohol withdrawal - 3 tablets or administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously at 3 ml.
For itchy dermatoses and insomnia, Pirroxan is taken before bedtime, 1-2 tablets.
The highest dosages of the drug are:
- Tablets: single – 4 tablets, daily – 12 tablets;
- Solution for injection: single dose – 45 mg, daily – 90 mg.
special instructions
Like any other drug, Proroxan has certain characteristics.
Regular use of the medicine can lead to a sharp decrease in blood pressure, headaches and fainting.
The first dose of the drug may be accompanied by increased heart rate, loss of strength, and apathy. The described manifestations are not side effects and do not require discontinuation of the drug. Repeated use of the medicine will eliminate all unpleasant phenomena.
During the course of treatment, blood sugar levels should be monitored. This is explained by the fact that prolonged use of Proroxan can lead to an increase in the level of endogenous insulin.
The first dose of the drug should be taken under the supervision of a doctor (the dosage should be minimal). In the absence of negative effects, the dosage is increased in accordance with the diagnosis and severity of clinical manifestations.
In the first days, it is better to take the medicine at night before bed.
Dosage reduction is not required when treating elderly people.
Liver and kidney diseases are not a contraindication to treatment with Proroxan. No dosage changes are required when treating such patients.
A doctor should prescribe a treatment regimen and select dosages. Self-medication in this case can result in serious health problems.
Price and analogues
When using the drug, a decrease in blood pressure, bradycardia (slow pulse), and increased pain in the heart area in patients with angina pectoris are possible.
Prices for Proroxan are formed based on several components - the sales region and the pricing policy of the pharmacy chain that sells the drug. On average, the cost of the medicine is 1000 – 1500 rubles (it is sold by prescription).
Analogs (substitutes) of the drug in composition and spectrum of action are Prorokon and Pyrroxan, in the group (alpha-blockers) - Butyroxan and Nicergoline. The latter are used to normalize blood pressure, reduce nervous overexcitation and reduce the severity of mental disorders.
A doctor must replace one drug with another.
