Pharmacological action

  • Antispasmodic

Pharmacological group

  • Myotropic antispasmodics in combinations

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Antispasmodic as well as hyposecretory effects (reduced bile secretion, pancreatic secretion, gastric, bronchial, sweat and salivary glands) are caused by m-anticholinergics from belladonna extract, while the antacid effect (neutralization of hydrochloric acid in the gastric juice) is due to the active substance of Becarbon - sodium bicarbonate.

In addition, it increases the excretion of sodium and chlorine, increases osmotic diuresis and shifts the reaction of bronchial mucus to the alkaline side, makes coughing sputum less viscous and stimulates expectoration.

Side effects

Becarbon tablets can affect the human body in a negative way, and thereby provoke the following types of side effects:

  • digestive disorders - constipation and loss of appetite;
  • changes in the distribution of fluid in the body - dry mucous membranes (especially in the mouth), urinary retention, feeling of thirst;
  • change in perception - loss of taste and, as a result, lack of appetite, as well as a change in visual perception;
  • changes in the contractile functions of the myocardium – tachycardia;
  • changes in the functioning of the central nervous system and autonomic nervous system - drowsiness, dizziness, agitation.

In case of overdose

If the recommended dosages are exceeded, Becarbon tablets can cause belladonna poisoning, which is expressed by the following symptoms:

  • nausea and repeated vomiting;
  • idiosyncrasy;
  • tachycardia or tachyarrhythmia;
  • myocardial ischemia;
  • hyperthermia due to a sharp decrease in the functioning of the sweat glands;
  • hives;
  • impotence;
  • secretion of breast milk.

If signs of these conditions appear, it is recommended to immediately stop taking the pills and consult a doctor.

Contraindications

Becarbon tablets have strict and relative contraindications. Thus, it is not recommended to use them if you have the following diseases:

  • confirmed or suspected glaucoma;
  • prostate adenoma, accompanied by urinary retention;
  • constipation caused by intestinal atony;
  • stenosis of the digestive tract;
  • atherosclerosis;
  • heart pathology in the stage of decompensation;
  • myasthenia gravis;
  • tachyarrhythmia;
  • lactation (GW);
  • intolerance to the components of the drug.

Bekarbon is prescribed with increased caution to patients with diseases of the cardiovascular system (coronary heart disease, heart failure and hypertension), reflux esophagia, hyperfunction of the thyroid gland and polyneuropathy. It is not recommended to use the medicine for course therapy for persons who have been diagnosed with cholelithiasis or nephrolithiasis.

Becarbon can affect the ability to concentrate and the ability to drive vehicles, therefore, while taking them, it is not recommended to drive vehicles or engage in activities that require quick reaction.

During pregnancy

The use of the drug for the treatment of functional digestive disorders in pregnant women is possible only for exceptional indications and in the absence of risk to the fetus. During lactation, the use of Becarbon is strictly prohibited.

Interaction

When using Becarbon:

  • With Amantadine , tricyclic antidepressants , antiarrhythmic anticholinergic drugs, including Quinidine , Nefopam , Glutetimide , the anticholinergic effect of Becarbon tablets is enhanced.
  • With opioid analgesics and drugs that depress the central nervous system (including phenothiazines ), dangerous central nervous system inhibition develops.
  • With butyrophenones and Haloperidol , as well as organic nitrates, intraocular pressure may increase.
  • With corticosteroids (when used systemically), the effect of corticosteroids is reduced and intraocular pressure may increase.
  • Becarbon reduces the effects of Pilocarpine in the treatment of glaucoma .
  • Combination with m-anticholinergics causes increased anticholinergic effects.
  • Use with Furosemide may cause orthostatic hypotension .
  • Reserpine , MAO inhibitors , guanethidines , antacids, vitamin C , Attapulgite - reduce the effects of Becarbon.
  • It is recommended to adjust the dosage of Levodopa , as its systemic concentrations may decrease.
  • With some antihistamines , for example, with Meclizine an increase in antihistamine effect is observed.
  • With β-adrenergic receptor blockers, their effects may be reduced.
  • With hormonal contraceptives - decreased contraceptive effect.
  • With drugs that include non-selective inhibitors of neuronal reuptake of monoamine mediators , an increase in the sedative effect of both drugs is observed.
  • Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Griseofulvin , Digitoxin , Doxycycline , Metoclopramide , Metronidazole in combination with Becarbon cause a decrease in the effects of these drugs.
  • With sulfonamides - the risk of kidney damage increases.
  • With Indapamide , Nizatidine - potentiation of their effects.
  • With Ketoconazole, the pH of the gastric juice increases, the absorption of Ketoconazole decreases, therefore Becarbon is recommended to be taken 2 hours after taking Ketoconazole tablets.
  • Potassium chloride may cause damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa.
  • The effects of anticholinergic drugs are antagonistic to the effect of Domperidone on gastrointestinal activity.
  • Sodium bicarbonate as a component of Becarbon can increase the excretion of Lithium , thereby reducing its concentration in the blood plasma.

Instructions for use

The list of indications, contraindications, pharmacological properties and a detailed mechanism of action of Becarbon on the digestive system is described in the instructions. The manufacturer gives an example of a standard dosage regimen and dosage regimen for the drug. If there are special instructions, these instructions can be adjusted by your doctor. Additionally, the manufacturer provides recommendations for storing the medication, describes the features of its drug interactions with other pharmaceuticals, and explains the principle of use for certain groups of patients.

pharmachologic effect

Along with the ability to suppress the synthesis of gastric secretions, this medicine can reduce the tone of the gallbladder and its ducts, increase intraocular pressure and provoke paralysis of accommodation.

The drug can also cause disturbances in heart rhythm, which is due to the action of its constituent components. In this regard, when using Becarbon, you must strictly follow the instructions for using the drug.

Release form and composition of the drug

Becarbon is a combination drug with herbal and synthetic components that affects peripheral mediator processes in the intestines and the body as a whole (especially if you take a large dose of the drug).

Group: Medicines / Medicines for the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract

One tablet contains:

  • 0.01 g belladonna extract;
  • 0.3 g sodium bicarbonate;
  • starch;
  • talc.

Externally, the drug looks like classic flat-cylindrical tablets with a score and a chamfer, colored yellowish-brown. Brown, gray and/or black inclusions are visible on the surface and fracture of the tablets. The medicine is packaged in paper packages with a layer of polymer film, 10 pieces each.

Mode of application

Becarbon tablets are intended for oral administration. It is recommended to drink them 20-30 minutes before eating, 1 piece per meal. The frequency of administration per day is no more than three. The dosage can be increased according to indications and only with the approval of a doctor. The maximum permissible dose per dose is 5 tablets.

The duration of drug therapy is determined by the severity of symptoms and the depth of damage to the gastrointestinal tract, tolerability of the drug and other factors, including the effectiveness of therapy on the first day of treatment.

Drug interactions

Due to the fact that Becarbon tablets contain two active components acting in several directions, the list of possible interactions with other drugs remains quite wide. Belladonna extract has the greatest interaction activity, which affects the absorption of certain compounds and drugs:

  • The maximum daily dose of Becarbon tablets is 15 tablets.
    reduces or completely stops the effect of anticholinergics and anticholinesterics;

  • potentiates the effect of MAO inhibitors, which may result in arrhythmia;
  • potentiates the effect of cardiac glycosides;
  • enhances the effect of clonidine and barbiturates;
  • potentiates the effect of tranquilizers;
