Bronchipret for children: reviews and instructions for use

Bronchipret for children: reviews and instructions for use

Coughing in young children is a common story that begins with the onset of the first cold weather. That is why it is so important to have in mind an effective and natural remedy that can efficiently remove phlegm, relieve bronchospasm and relieve inflammation as much as possible. One such effective remedy is the drug Bronchipret from the German brand Bionorica.

What is Bronchipret, in what dosage form, syrup or drops, is it best used for children, what is stated in its instructions for use, are there any analogues of this drug on the pharmaceutical market and what consumer reviews leave about it - read on.

Composition and release form

Bronchipret is presented in 3 dosage forms: syrup, tablets and drops. However, syrup and drops are usually used directly for children, and tablets are indicated for use only from 12 years of age. You can find both syrup and drops in pharmacies in dark glass bottles in sizes of 50 and 100 ml (the drops are also equipped with a convenient pipette dispenser, and the syrup comes with a measuring cup).

Read the instructions for use of Bronchipret syrup for children.

The main active components of this medicine are liquid extracts of thyme herbs and ivy leaves. Excipients include:

  1. For drops: saccharin sodium dihydrate, water, food grade citric acid.
  2. For syrup: potassium sorbate, maltitol syrup, water, food grade citric acid.

Compound

Bronchipret syrup for children

The composition of the medication includes natural herbal ingredients:

  1. Liquid thyme extract. For 100 ml of the drug there are 15 ml of herb extract.
  2. Ivy leaves. Presented with plant extract. 1.5 ml of the substance is contained in a 100 ml bottle.

Thanks to the active herbal components, Bronchipret has a bronchodilator, decongestant and expectorant effect. The medication stimulates the production of mucus in the bronchi, which breaks down hardened mucus. The accumulation of fluid irritates the nerve endings on the mucous membranes, which causes bronchospasm with sharp exhalations. A wet cough develops, removing phlegm from the body.

Flavonoids reduce the viscosity of secreted mucus. Plant extracts relieve inflammation of the bronchi, accelerate the process of regeneration and cellular renewal of tissues. The anti-edematous effect is achieved by improving microcirculation - the drug increases blood supply to the bronchial tree. As a result, exudate and excess fluid leave the soft tissue along with the blood.

In addition, the active components of the drug have a bronchospasmolytic effect. They reduce the force of contraction of bronchial smooth muscles due to intensive blood supply. The flow of oxygen and nutrients quickly relaxes tissues in spasm.

In addition to the main active ingredients, the composition includes auxiliary ingredients necessary to improve the bioavailability of the drug:

  • ethyl alcohol (7% of the total volume);
  • citric acid in the form of monohydrate;
  • sterile water;
  • maltitol syrup;
  • potassium sorbate.

Plant components are quickly absorbed into the blood by 90-100% and are evenly distributed throughout the body. The drug has an effect on the bronchi almost immediately after use. The expectorant and antispasmodic effect appears after 1-2 hours.

Operating principle

The drug Bronchipret has the following effects:

  • expands the bronchi, due to which viscous sputum is removed from them much faster and minimizes the likelihood of bronchospasm;
  • dilutes bronchial secretions and activates their production, making it easier to pass;
  • disinfects the mucous membrane (harmfully affecting pneumococci, streptococci and other pathogenic bacteria and viruses) and reduces its inflammation.

The drug is prescribed for bronchitis and pneumonia.

Bronchipret

Bronchipret is an expectorant herbal medicine from a German pharmaceutical company. It is used as part of complex symptomatic treatment of acute respiratory infections with accompanying cough and excessive mucus formation (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea, bronchi, etc.). The extracts of ivy and thyme included in the drug have a mucolytic (thin the mucus and facilitate its evacuation from the respiratory tract), antispasmodic (relieves spasms of the smooth muscles of the bronchi), anti-inflammatory effect and potentiate the effects of each other. Research in the field of pharmacognosy suggests that these two plant components are an ideal combination for inclusion in drugs for the treatment of pathologies of the respiratory tract. Bronchipret is a modern combined herbal preparation, endowed with a mild, gentle effect and not inferior to artificially synthesized mucolytics. In addition to the above effects, the drug also has antiviral, antimicrobial, secretomotor (stimulates the discharge of sputum during a wet cough) effect. The uniqueness of Bronchipret lies in its inhalation effect, which manifests itself after oral administration. The drug can be used in patients of all age groups, incl. in children when they reach three months. Bronchipret is not contraindicated for people with diabetes, which cannot be said about every antitussive drug.

The medicine is convenient to use, because Each patient can choose a convenient dosage form for themselves: syrup, drops, tablets. Due to the presence of ethanol in the composition, Bronchipret is not recommended for people who abuse alcohol, suffer from epilepsy and liver diseases, have a history of traumatic brain injury, as well as during pregnancy and lactation. The optimal time to take Bronchipret is after meals. The duration of the medication course is 10-14 days. Extension of treatment and/or the possibility of a repeat course is discussed with the attending physician. As a rule, the drug is well tolerated and does not cause side effects. In rare cases, allergic reactions develop. Symptoms of overdose: dyspeptic disorders (epigastric pain, diarrhea, nausea). Bronchipret is not recommended for use in combination with central antitussive drugs and drugs that reduce mucus formation, because this will make it difficult to evacuate the liquefied bronchial secretions from the airways. If after 10-14 days of medication there is no improvement, it is recommended to seek medical advice. Cloudiness of Bronchipret syrup during long-term storage is not a sign of poor quality of the drug and a decrease in its effectiveness. It is recommended to shake the syrup vigorously before use.

Contraindications, possible side effects and cases of overdose

The use of Bronchipret is not permitted if:

  • individual intolerance to any of its components;
  • pathologies in the liver;
  • alcohol addiction;
  • epilepsy;
  • disorders in the functioning of the brain.

The use of the drug is also not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

As for the possible side effects, among them we can only highlight possible allergic reactions. In case of overdose, the following may occur: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.

Indications for use and contraindications of syrup

how to take Bronchipret syrup correctly

Bronchipret cough syrup is recommended for use in acute respiratory viral infections and chronic pathologies of the respiratory system. The drug is used as symptomatic therapy for the treatment of dry and wet cough. The drug Bronchipret, the indications for which are based on its expectorant properties, is prescribed as an additional therapy for inflammation of the bronchi and trachea. In this case, in addition to removing sputum, the syrup relaxes the smooth muscles of the respiratory tube and eliminates bronchospasm.

It is strictly forbidden to take the medicine in the following cases:

  1. Individual intolerance to structural components, the presence of hereditary allergies to plant proteins, since the effect of the drug is based on the properties of medicinal plants, the extracts of which are strong allergens.
  2. Infants up to 3 months. Ethanol negatively affects the development of the child’s immune and nervous systems. Plant extracts can cause an anaphylactic reaction and angioedema of internal organs.
  3. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome, blunt brain injuries, concussions, liver damage, liver failure, epilepsy, severe infectious diseases of the central nervous system. Ethyl alcohol, which is part of the composition, has a toxic effect on liver cells and the nervous system. In case of mental disorders or functional damage to these organs, the general condition of the patient may deteriorate up to immediate hospitalization.

Directions for use and dosage

This medicine must be taken directly orally, after meals, with the required amount of water.

The drug in the form of drops is taken 4 times a day and a single dose is:

  • for children from 6 to 11 years old – 25 drops;
  • from 12 to 18 years – 28 drops;
  • over 18 years old – 40 drops.

According to the instructions for use, Bronchipret drops for children can only be taken from 6 years of age.

Bronchipret syrup is taken 3 times a day and a single dose is:

  • for children from 3 to 12 months – 1.1 ml;
  • from 1 year to 2 years – 2.2 ml;
  • from 2 to 6 years – 3.2 ml;
  • from 6 to 12 years – 4.3 ml;
  • over 12 years old – 5.4 ml.

For the correct dosage of syrup, the bottle is also equipped with a measuring cup.

The duration of therapy is usually up to 2 weeks.

Interaction with other drugs

The drug can be used during antibacterial therapy. Antimicrobial agents suppress the growth and development of pathogenic microflora, which reduces the therapeutic effect of Bronchipret. Taking antibiotics to artificially enhance the expectorant effect of the syrup is strictly prohibited.

Uncontrolled use of antimicrobial agents threatens overdose and intestinal dysbiosis. Antibiotics are indicated only when a secondary infection occurs against the background of a viral disease of the respiratory system or in infectious-inflammatory pathologies of bacterial origin (tuberculosis, pneumonia).

It is not recommended to take sweet syrup in parallel with drugs that reduce sputum secretion. A similar ban is imposed on antitussive medications. In both cases, a decrease in the expectorant effect is observed.

Analogues of Bronchipret

On the pharmaceutical market there are a sufficient number of similarly active drugs that will help cope with a child’s cough, among them:

  • —Gedelix— (can be used from birth);
  • —Prospan— (can be used from birth);
  • Eucabal (can be used from six months);
  • Herbion (can be used from 2 years old);

  • Dry cough syrup for children (can be used from birth).

There are also analogues of Bronchipret for children, in particular Prospan, Gerbion and other syrups.

Chronical bronchitis

Reviews

Svetlana:

One time we had a very long cough. What haven't we tried! Until the doctor prescribed us Bronchipret. I was very surprised that the cough went away 3 days after taking it. This drug really helps a lot.

Alina:

We first became acquainted with Bronchipret at the age of 2: our son began to have a strong dry cough, and the pediatrician prescribed us this cough syrup. After just 2-3 days the cough became productive and then went away completely. I was pleased with the price of this medicine and the fact that it tastes quite pleasant, even though it is herbal. It did not cause any allergies in us, although our son is prone to it.

Evgeniya:

My daughter’s cough lasted about a month. A lot of different syrups were drunk, but to no avail. Believe it or not, Bronchipret is the remedy that really cured us, and this happened in just a few days. And this is after a month of suffering! A very good drug that effectively copes with both dry and wet coughs. Now we buy it all the time.

Maria:

My daughter was prescribed this syrup for bronchitis. It really works very quickly: you drank it in the evening, and in the morning the cough has noticeably subsided. And the fact that it is plant-based is also good news. I recommend.

Lyudmila:

We were prescribed Bronchipret when our daughter was 10 months old, when she began to have a severe cough due to ARVI. But, unfortunately, after 7 days of taking it, the situation improved only slightly, but the cough did not go away. I read a lot of rave reviews about him on the Internet. Maybe this is a good drug, I don’t argue, but it didn’t suit us.

Review Reviews

A special topic for reflection is the assessment of consumers of the drug Bronchipret. The reviews are not all as positive as expected about a medicine from a well-known and respected manufacturer.

The ratio of positive and mixed reviews about the drug is approximately 50/50, and the reviews from parents of young patients are the most informative.

  1. Bronchipret received good ratings mainly from adult patients who used the drug in tablet form.
  2. Mixed reviews include descriptions of the drug's effects on young children. Parents note that, as prescribed by the doctor, they gave their children Bronchipret, which quickly relieved the children’s cough, but many encountered side effects. One mother’s child began urinating urine that had darkened to a brownish color; after analysis, it turned out that the level of erythrocytes (red blood cells) in the urine was increased. After stopping the medication, the strange side symptom disappeared, but my mother remained afraid of this medicine.
  3. Another parent describes the rapid relief of her child's cough, but the subsequent allergic reaction - a rash that quickly went away after stopping the drug.
  4. Separately, I would like to draw the attention of many mothers who call Bronchipret a homeopathic remedy - it is not a homeopathic, but a phytotherapeutic remedy. Unlike homeopathic medicines, Bronchipret has proven effectiveness in treatment.

You can also note the opinion of consumers about the price of the medicine - the majority consider the cost of Bronchipret, as a drug with such a list of side effects in the instructions for use, to be unreasonably high.

Flavonoids and essential oils of thyme , as well as saponins ivy leaves, have a secretolytic and bronchospasmolytic effect, in addition they reduce bronchoconstriction .

The components of the drug are quickly absorbed into the systemic bloodstream and excreted primarily by the kidneys.

Contraindications

Before starting treatment, information about contraindications set out in the instructions for use is equally important. Their list is small:

  • brain injury or pathology;
  • liver diseases;
  • epilepsy;
  • alcoholism.

The reason for the impossibility of treatment with medication for the above conditions is the ethanol contained in Bronchipret.

There are 2 more conditions when this drug is contraindicated:

  • minimum age - 12 years (for tablet form), 6 years (for drops), 3 months (for syrup);
