Diazolin for children: reviews and instructions for use

Diazolin for children: reviews and instructions for use

Diazolin is well known to modern parents from their own childhood. This is a first-generation antihistamine, which our mothers most often gave us for various allergic manifestations. First generation antihistamines are inferior in some properties to new drugs. For example, they have a hypnotic effect, have a quick and strong, but at the same time, short-term effect. Also, long-term use of drugs of this generation reduces antihistamine activity, so they cannot be taken for a long time.

Diazolin is still popular today. It remains one of the most accessible antihistamines. Its action and side effects have been carefully studied and tested over decades of use. We invite you to read a detailed description of this drug, and also answer a common question - is Diazolin suitable for very young children?

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Mebhydrolin contained in this drug is an antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors. It significantly reduces the spasmogenic effect of histamine on the smooth muscles of the intestines and bronchi. It also affects vascular permeability . If we compare this drug with first-generation antihistamines, such as suprastin or diphenhydramine , then its sedative and hypnotic effects are much less pronounced. Diazolin also has anesthetic properties, but they are weak.

Absorption of the drug occurs very quickly, and after 15-30 minutes it begins to act. The maximum effect in patients is observed after 1-2 hours, while its duration is up to two days. It is excreted from the body through the kidneys.

special instructions

And although Diazolin is well tolerated, long-term use increases the likelihood of side effects. For this reason, the drug is practically not used in the treatment of chronic allergic diseases. Its main purpose is to relieve symptoms of acute allergic reactions at their earliest stages.

Unlike first-generation antihistamines, mebhydrolin slightly penetrates the central nervous system, and therefore does not have a hypnotic or pronounced sedative effect.

Relatively common side effects of Diazolin with potentially serious consequences are dizziness, blurred vision and drowsiness, therefore, during treatment with this drug, it is recommended to refrain from driving a car and performing activities that require speed of mental and/or physical reactions, visual acuity, and concentration.

During treatment with Diazolin, you should not drink alcohol-containing drinks, take sedatives and central nervous system depressants, since mebhydrolin enhances their effect.

In addition, Diazolin increases the effect of sedatives (for example, Glycine, Persen, Notta, Dormikind, etc.). Therefore, you should consult your doctor if your child takes drugs from this group together with Diazolin.

Diazolin is often used in combination with other drugs.

Diazolin has a positive interaction when taken with antibiotics and deworming medications for children.

  2. When getting rid of worms, Diazolin helps relieve allergic reactions due to intoxication of the body with waste products of parasites.

Reviews

Svetlana:

A child (3 years old) periodically develops food allergies. We excluded citrus fruits and cocoa, and still it appears from time to time. Fenistil drops do not help us. I always keep Diazolin and Loratadine at home as a first aid. They always help relieve symptoms.

Alice:

In winter we caught a cold, the child coughed non-stop! Dry cough, to the point of vomiting. It turned out to be obstructive bronchitis. The pediatrician prescribed treatment, but the child continued to suffer from coughing attacks, especially at night. Therefore, when the child started coughing completely, she gave Noshpa + Diazolin. It helped very quickly, I began to sleep normally at night. I like the pill form better; I tell my child that this is such a medicinal candy, and he never resists taking it.

Catherine:

I try to avoid Diazolin and Suprastin whenever possible. These are dinosaur drugs, you need to take them several times a day, as they are weak and make you sleepy. Fenistil is also weak, especially after a year. Therefore, I prefer something like Loratadine, Claritin, Cetrin, Eden. My child is allergic. We have been to so many doctors and talked to many about Diazolin and similar drugs. It has more side effects than results.

Olga:

My son (5 years old) was allergic to cashews. I ate quite a lot, my legs, tummy, forehead are covered in red blisters, my eyelids are swollen! I gave Fenistil 30 drops, but it didn’t help. Everything continued to itch. I had to give Diazolin, even though it is the oldest antihistamine. My relatives recommended him. And it really worked quickly.

Julia:

I am allergic to ragweed, July to September is hell. The doctor prescribed a children's dose of Diazolin because I was pregnant. I drank it along with homeopathic drops of Euphorbium compositum, sprayed saline solutions into my nose, and it really helped.
