general description
Having a balanced composition, this drug quickly has the necessary effect on the body, completely covering its need for iron in the most easily digestible form. Convenient use allows you to be confident in receiving the required amount of the drug at one time, and due to the minimal number of possible negative manifestations when using it, Ferlatum Fol is prescribed to eliminate the manifestations and prevent iron deficiency anemia even in childhood.
This product is presented in the form
of a dark glass bottle with a solution which the composition should be poured from the dispenser cap before use.
To do this, before use, press firmly on the dispenser cap, then shake the bottle, and immediately take the product.
The drug is taken orally before meals.
The regimen for using the product is drawn up by a doctor, who, based on prescribed tests and studies, obtains a complete picture of the patient’s health and determines the level of iron or folate deficiency in the body. Typically, to restore the required level of iron, a course of 2-4 weeks of use of the product is required with an interval of 2-3 times a day.

pharmachologic effect
Antianemic drug. Contains iron and calcium folinate. Replenishes the lack of iron and folate in the body.
The main function of iron is to transport oxygen to tissues. Iron is part of hemoglobin, myoglobin, iron-containing cytochrome enzymes, transfers electrons and works as a catalyst for oxidation reactions, hydroxylation and other metabolic processes.
Ferlatum Fol contains iron-protein succinylate, which is a complex compound where ferric iron atoms are surrounded by a semi-synthetic protein carrier that prevents damage to the gastric mucosa. The protein carrier dissolves in the duodenum, releasing iron at the site of optimal absorption.

Foods that help and hinder iron absorption
For normal absorption of iron, a sufficient amount of vitamin C and folic acid is required in the body! Foods rich in vitamin C promote better absorption of iron. Combine meals so that foods rich in iron are taken at the same time as foods rich in vitamin C.
Tea, milk, coffee, as well as any foods rich in calcium interfere with the absorption of iron. The fact is that calcium is an antagonist element to iron - they interfere with each other’s absorption. Magnesium also interferes with the absorption of iron. You should not consume iron and Magne B6 at the same time!
For more complete absorption of iron, it is useful to drink grapefruit or orange juice during meals, and drink milk between meals.
FERLATUM FOL: DOSAGE
Ferlatum Fol should be taken orally before or after meals.
Adults: 1-2 bottles/day in 2 doses (in an amount equivalent to 40-80 mg of ferric iron and 0.235-0.470 mg of calcium folinate pentahydrate) or as recommended by a doctor.
Children (from the neonatal period) 1.5 ml/kg/day (in an amount equivalent to 4 mg/kg/day ferric iron and 0.0235 mg/kg/day calcium folinate) in 2 divided doses or as recommended by a doctor.
1 bottle (15 ml) contains: iron protein succinylate - 800 mg (equivalent to 40 mg ferric iron) and 0.235 mg calcium folinate pentahydrate (equivalent to 0.185 mg folinic acid).
For pregnant women to prevent iron deficiency anemia - 1 bottle/day. For the treatment of latent or clinically pronounced iron deficiency - 1-2 bottles/day in 2 divided doses.
After achieving normal levels of serum iron and hemoglobin, treatment is continued at a maintenance dose for at least 8-12 weeks.
Rules for preparing the solution
To prepare a solution for oral administration, press firmly on the perforator of the dispenser cap so that the powder pours into the solution in the bottle. Then you should vigorously shake the contents of the bottle, remove the dispenser cap and drink the solution from the bottle.

for adults
Persons in this age category can use the drug when indications for use are identified. The composition is well tolerated; adverse reactions during administration occur extremely rarely. In this case, the patient’s condition returns to normal after discontinuation of the medication. Patients in this age group who have problems with the liver and kidneys can also use the medication when indications for use are identified. No dosage adjustment is required for these patients; the composition is well tolerated and does not provoke the occurrence of adverse reactions. The drug can be prescribed to elderly people.

Contraindications
- hemochromatosis;
- violation of iron utilization (incl.
- lead anemia,
- sideroachrestic anemia);
- non-iron deficiency anemia (incl.
- hemolytic anemia,
- megaloblastic anemia,
- caused by a lack of vitamin B12);
- chronic pancreatitis;
- cirrhosis of the liver;
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
The drug should be used with caution in case of peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, malabsorption in pathology of the small intestine (including enteritis, malabsorption syndrome, resection of the small intestine, Billroth II gastric resection including the duodenum).
Analogs
Other drugs containing iron are considered as analogues of the drug.
Ferlatum
Ferlatum is an iron preparation. The drug is distributed to the population through a network of pharmacies in the form of an oral solution. The product can be used to treat and prevent iron deficiency during the neonatal period, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Sorbifer
Sorbifer is a Hungarian drug that contains ferrous sulfate and vitamin C as active ingredients. The drug is produced in the form of tablets intended for oral administration. Children under 12 years of age are a contraindication for use. The drug is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women.
Maltofer
The drug Maltofer belongs to the substitute drug Ferlatum foul in the drug group. This product is produced in the form of chewable tablets, drops, syrup and oral solution. The drug can be used for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency conditions. The drug is highly effective and safe, which makes it possible to use it from the neonatal period.
Totema
The medicine Totema is also an iron preparation, which is produced in the form of a solution intended for oral administration. The product can be used for iron deficiency anemia to treat children from 3 months of age. The drug can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
special instructions
The continuous period of use of the drug Ferlatum Fol should not exceed 6 months, with the exception of cases of chronic blood loss (including menorrhagia, hemorrhoids) and pregnancy.
Due to the possible development of allergic reactions, the drug should be prescribed with caution to patients with milk protein intolerance.
Ferlatum Fol contains sorbitol, so the drug should not be used in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance.
Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machinery
The drug does not affect engagement in potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving).
Drug interactions
With simultaneous use, no interaction of the drug Ferlatum Fol with other drugs was observed. The absorption of iron can be increased with the simultaneous use of the drug Ferlatum Fol with ascorbic acid in a dose of >200 mg. The absorption of iron may be reduced when using the drug Ferlatum Fol simultaneously with antacids. Chloramphenicol causes a delayed response to iron therapy. There is no pharmacological interaction with the simultaneous use of the drug Forlatum Fol with histamine H2 receptor antagonists. Some antitumor and antileukemic drugs (including aminopterin, methotrexate and other pterin derivatives) exhibit folate antagonist properties.
