  • For washing the bladder and urethra (with exposure to an aqueous solution for 20 minutes);
  • After removing pus from pleural empyema (using an aqueous solution in an amount of 20-100 ml to wash the pleural cavity).

Pharmacological properties

The active substance of the drug "Furacilin", which helps with purulent infections, causes an antimicrobial effect. The medicine creates highly active amino derivatives that affect the proteins of macromolecules and lead to the destruction of cells. The drug is active against many gram-positive and -negative microorganisms.

The drug "Furacilin" fights well against streptococci, staphylococci, salmonella, shigella, clostridia, etc. Resistance in bacteria to the drug develops slowly, and the drug does not lose its therapeutic properties.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

What is nitrofural?

The substance nitrofural is a derivative of nitrofuran, which is a yellow or yellow with a greenish tint, bitter-tasting fine-crystalline powder.

The powder is almost insoluble in ether, slightly soluble in ethanol and water, but easily soluble in alkali solutions.

The gross formula of nitrofural is C6H6N4O4.

Wikipedia states that one of the properties of nitrofuran compounds is photosensitivity. Therefore, the diluted solution should not be exposed to daylight. UV rays are especially destructive for furatsilin solutions, which deeply and irreversibly damage the nitrofural .

Pharmacodynamics

The properties of nitrofurans are due to the presence in their molecule of an aromatic nitro group, which is similar to that found in the molecule of chloramphenicol ( chloramphenicol ).

The mechanism of action of nitrofural is different from the mechanism of action of other chemotherapeutic drugs: under the influence of nitrofural, highly reactive amino derivatives are formed from proteins of microbial cells (flavproteins), which have the ability to change the conformation of macromolecules (including ribosomal proteins).

As a result, the tertiary and quaternary structure of the protein is deformed, the course of metabolic processes in the microbial cell is disrupted, and the cell dies.

The substance increases the absorption capacity of the macrophage (reticuloendothelial) system and enhances phagocytosis .

Nitrofural is effective against Gram (+) and Gram (-) bacteria, as well as against some protozoa and viruses. Sensitive to the drug are: Shigella (Sh. dysenteriae, flexneri, boydii, sonnei), Escherichia coli, streptococci, staphylococci, salmonella, clostridium perfringens.

Resistance to nitrofural develops slowly and does not reach a high degree. The drug is effective against the resistance of pathogenic microflora to other antimicrobial drugs (which are not nitrofuran ).

However, in hospitals there are strains of microorganisms completely resistant to nitrofural.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied externally and locally, nitrofural is absorbed in very small quantities. The substance penetrates histiocytic barriers and is evenly distributed in physiological fluids and tissues of the body.

Nitrofural is metabolized primarily by reducing the nitro group. Metabolic products are excreted by the kidneys; in addition, they are partially excreted in bile.

Furacilin during pregnancy

The peculiarity of nitrofural is that when applied externally/locally, it does not enter the blood. This property allows the drug to be used during pregnancy, when most other drugs are contraindicated.

Rinsing with Furacilin during pregnancy is indicated for inflammatory diseases and bacterial infections of the mouth and throat , as well as for sinusitis and sinusitis .

In addition, an aqueous solution can be used for washing and douching for vaginal candidiasis , and ointment and paste can be used to treat minor injuries to the skin and mucous membranes.

Despite the fact that the drug, when used externally, does not harm the body of the expectant mother and her child, it is still necessary to use it for its intended purpose and in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.

In addition, when gargling during pregnancy, you should avoid swallowing the medicine.

Side effects

When Furacilin is used externally, dermatitis and hypersensitivity reactions are possible.

In some cases, inflammatory skin lesions are a reason for temporary cessation of treatment, while in others it is a reason for complete discontinuation of the drug.

When taken orally dizziness , nausea, loss of appetite , vomiting, and allergic reactions .

Contraindications to the use of the medication

Furacilin is a universal anti-inflammatory agent. But they are contraindicated to treat patients with nitrofuran intolerance. The body's reaction can be easily checked by rinsing your mouth with an aqueous solution. If the process of swelling of the mucous membranes of the mouth, lips or tongue has begun, then this medication is contraindicated for a particular person. However, these cases are rare. In general, intolerance to furatsilin is extremely rare.

The only contraindication to the use of furatsilin is intolerance to nitrofuran

An important point when using the solution is that it cannot be used in the presence of open or bleeding wounds, as well as dermatitis of various origins. In other cases, the antibacterial properties of furatsilin have a positive effect on the patient’s recovery process.

How to properly rinse with Furacilin

With the help of active rinses, provided that all recommendations are fully followed, ENT diseases can be cured without encountering a number of complications.
Doctors recommend gargling with Furacilin 5 to 8 times a day, the last time immediately at night. Before rinsing, the mucous membrane of the throat should be cleared of mucus and bacteria. A medium strength saline solution works well for this. The optimal proportions are a teaspoon of salt (sea or food) per glass of warm water. Treat your mouth and throat with the prepared solution.

After cleansing the mucous membrane, you should start rinsing with Furacilin. Rinsing procedures should take no more than 5 minutes. On average, up to 500 ml of the prepared solution is consumed per day. This dose is enough to carry out 5 rinses per day.

Eye rub solution

Children whose immune system is immature are vulnerable to infection and often suffer from conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes). And therefore, parents are interested in the question: “How to wash your eyes with Furacilin?” In order not to harm the child, you need to properly prepare and use the solution:

  1. Disinfect the glass container and pour 200 ml of warm distilled water into it.
  2. Grind 20 mg of Furacilin to a powder.
  3. Pour the powder into water and leave to infuse.
  4. After 30 minutes, the liquid is filtered.
  5. Soak a cotton pad in the medicine and rinse your eyes when they become sour.

Now parents know how to dilute Furacilin in eye wash tablets for children. It is recommended to use the solution throughout the day; after use, cover the container to prevent debris from getting into it. The medicine is suitable for newborns; it perfectly eliminates pathogenic bacteria and prevents their spread. The eye solution is combined with other medications.
