Troxerutin: instructions, indications, dosages and analogues, reviews

Troxerutin is a drug from the group of angioprotectors and has pronounced venotonic, capillary protective, membrane stabilizing and anti-inflammatory activity. Belongs to the pharmacological group of drugs that have an antispasmodic effect, helping to relax the smooth muscles of blood vessels and other internal organs.

The active substance Troxerutin is a derivative of rutin; in its normal state it is a yellow powdery substance, easily soluble in water, propylene glycol, and glycerin.

The drug is available in the form of Troxerutin gel for external application and Troxerutin capsules for oral administration. The combination of medicinal forms significantly enhances the effectiveness of the drug and the therapeutic effect in the treatment of certain diseases.

The action of the drug is based on blocking the venodilating effect of bradykinin and histamine (inflammatory mediators). Stabilizes hyaluronic acid in cell membranes, counteracting hyaluronidase. Troxerutin is able to reduce capillary permeability and thicken the walls of blood vessels - this property is widely used to treat varicose veins, hemorrhoids, etc.

The anti-inflammatory effect is achieved by limiting platelet adhesion to the surface of the vascular wall. According to its mechanism of action, the drug is similar to vitamin P, which has a general strengthening effect on blood vessels.

Troxerutin helps reduce various types of inflammation and is involved in the removal of metabolic residues from tissue structures.

After taking the tablets (standard dosage), they are immediately absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood, reaching maximum concentration after 2-6 hours. Excreted by the liver and kidneys 24 hours after administration.

Unlike capsules, Troxerutin gel is not absorbed into the blood, however, it penetrates well into tissues through the skin. Therefore, during pregnancy this dosage form is relatively safe (follow the instructions for use).

Compound

The composition of Troxerutin, produced in the form of capsules, includes 300 mg of Troxerutin and excipients: lactose monohydrate, colloidal silicon dioxide, Macrogol 6000, Magnesium stearate .
To make the capsule, the following are used: titanium dioxide (Titanium dioxide), gelatin (Gelatin), dyes (quinoline yellow - 0.75%, sunset yellow - 0.0059%).

Gel composition: troxerutin (Troxerutin) at a concentration of 20 mg/gram, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218; Methyl parahydroxybenzoate), carbomer (Carbomer), triethanolamine (Triethanolamine), disodium edetate (Edetate disodium), purified water (Aqua purificata).

Description of the drug

Troxerutin gel is used both for the treatment of venous pathologies and for their prevention. Many patients complain to phlebologists about discomfort in their legs that occurs in the evening. They are worried about nagging pain, swelling in the ankle area, and the appearance of spider veins and spider veins.

These are the first symptoms of diseases of the vascular system, the intensity of which will constantly increase. If you use Troxerutin at the initial stage of the pathology, you can prevent the development of irreversible complications.

A course of use of venotonic helps to avoid serious surgical intervention.

What does Troxerutin gel help with:

  • high permeability of capillary walls;
  • low tone of the veins of the lower extremities;
  • disruption of metabolic processes in the venous walls;
  • inflammatory swelling due to excessive secretion of exudate from blood and lymphatic vessels.

The active ingredient of the drug is able to strengthen vascular walls and restore their optimal permeability. It prevents platelet aggregation, blood clot formation, and blockage of blood vessels. The venotonic effect of Troxerutin gel has found application in proctology. It is recommended for patients diagnosed with external hemorrhoids, inflammation of the hemorrhoids.

The drug is often prescribed to people whose work requires constant standing. These are sellers, hairdressers, pharmacists, waiters. They are at risk of developing venous insufficiency and varicose veins. Course use of Troxerutin gel 2-3 times a year helps to avoid the occurrence of dangerous diseases.

Clinical and pharmacological group

Gel (cream, ointment) Troxerutin is included in the group of angioprotectors and microcirculation correctors. Pharmacological properties allow it to be classified as an anti-inflammatory and decongestant drug.

We recommend

In the article we will talk about the medicinal properties and use of Venolife gel, an effective drug for combating varicose veins.

pharmachologic effect

The gel and capsules (tablets) contain troxerutin, which has phleboprotective activity. The pharmacological effect of the drug is identical to rutin from the vitamin P group. The active ingredient takes part in redox reactions occurring in the human body.

It inhibits the enzyme hyaluronidase, which blocks the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid. By reducing the fragility and permeability of capillaries, it increases the density of blood vessels.

Troxerutin gel is also characterized by the following therapeutic properties:

  • preventing the release of blood cells through the walls of capillaries and small veins;
  • reduction of plasma fluid exudation;
  • relief of inflammatory processes occurring in the walls of veins;
  • limiting the adsorption of platelets to the walls of blood vessels, reducing their lumen.

Troxerutin prevents the formation of free radicals. It is these compounds that are responsible for cell damage and further tissue destruction. At the initial stage of the pathology, doctors prescribe the drug as monotherapy. This helps reduce the pharmacological burden on the human body.

Improving lymphatic drainage function allows the drug to be used at a severe stage of the disease. In this case, it is combined with Troxerutin capsules or medications with diosmin.

Release form and composition

Troxerutin gel is produced by many Russian and foreign pharmaceutical factories. On pharmacy shelves you can find a drug from the Bulgarian manufacturer Vramed and the Russian manufacturer Biokhimik. It is packaged in sealed aluminum tubes of 40.0 g.

Secondary packaging is a cardboard box with instructions for use attached. The gel is a transparent jelly-like substance with a yellowish tint and no odor. According to pharmacological standards, the presence of foreign particles is not allowed.

The composition of Troxerutin gel includes the following ingredients:

  • troxerutin;
  • methylparaben;
  • carbopol;
  • triethanolamine;
  • trilon B;
  • distilled water.

Auxiliary components are used not only to form a gel base.
Some of them have weak antiseptic activity. The absence of substances with a greasy consistency ensures rapid absorption of the ingredients by the skin. Due to accelerated transepidermal absorption, troxerutin is detected in blood vessels within 30 minutes.

Patients often ask doctors what is best to use to treat chronic venous insufficiency. Preparations with diosmin have a better effect than Troxerutin gel (ointment). They stop the inflammatory process in the walls of blood vessels much faster.

Diosmin also does not provoke side effects even with long-term use.

Terms and conditions of storage

The drug must be stored in places protected from direct sunlight. Temperature indicators differ among manufacturers and range from 8-25°C.

Shelf life is 24 months, reduced to 3 weeks after opening the sealed tube. Do not use an external remedy for treatment if a foreign odor appears or the consistency changes.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The product increases the tone of the walls of venous vessels and reduces their distensibility, thereby eliminating stagnation of venous blood and preventing the development of edema , reduces the intensity of the inflammatory process, and has membrane-stabilizing and capillary-protective effects .

Troxerutin takes an active part in redox processes of lipid peroxidation and hyaluronidase , as well as the oxidation of epinephrine ( Adrenaline ) and ascorbic acid .

The drug is characterized by P-vitamin activity, stimulates the processes of elimination of metabolic products from tissues, does not have an embryotoxic effect, does not cause mutations or disturbances in fetal development.

After oral administration, it is well absorbed from the digestive tract. The plasma concentration of the substance reaches its peak values 2-8 hours after taking the capsule. The second peak occurs approximately 30 hours later.

Troxerutin is almost completely eliminated from the body within 24 hours after administration, with about 75-80% of the substance being excreted by the liver, the remaining 20-25% by the kidneys .

When applied topically, the substance is not absorbed into the systemic circulation; however, the drug penetrates well into adjacent tissues through the skin.

Side effects

The drug is well tolerated by all categories of patients, provided that the dosage is followed. At the same time, side effects are extremely rare: headache, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa when using capsules and allergies (itching, burning, redness of the skin, peeling, urticaria (Urticaria) when using the gel. It should be noted that alcohol affects the effectiveness treatment with this drug.

!

Combining the drug with alcohol is not recommended.

Drinking alcoholic beverages may cause side effects of the drug, especially when treated with the capsule form of the drug.

Instructions for use of Troxerutin

Troxerutin capsules: instructions for use

Troxerutin tablets are taken with meals, swallowed whole. In accordance with the standard treatment regimen, 0.9 grams of troxerutin per day is prescribed orally (one tablet three times a day). If the medicine is used as a maintenance agent, it should be taken one capsule twice a day.

The full course of treatment lasts from 3 to 4 weeks. The advisability of longer-term use is determined individually by the attending physician.

Instructions for drugs from different manufacturers may differ slightly.

So, for example, Troxerutin Zentiva are taken according to the scheme described above, and Troxerutin Vramed in the initial stages of treatment are taken one 2 or 3 times a day, after which they switch to maintenance treatment, which involves taking one capsule per day.

Treatment with Troxerutin-MIC begins with intravenous or intramuscular administration of 0.5 grams of troxerutin in the form of an injection solution. The procedures are repeated every other day, and it is recommended to give at least 5 injections of the drug.

After this, they switch to oral dosage forms. The starting dose is 0.6-0.9 grams per day, the maintenance dose is 0.3 grams per day. The course of treatment is from 2 to 4 weeks, unless there are other indications.

Gel Troxerutin: instructions for use

Troxerutin ointment is a product for external use. It should be applied twice a day (in the morning and evening), in a thin layer, evenly distributed on the skin of the painful area from the distal (most distant) to the proximal (closest) part of it and lightly massaging until completely absorbed.

The dose is determined by the area of the damaged surface, but should not exceed 1-2 grams (this corresponds to approximately 3-4 cm of gel). After applying the medication, an occlusive dressing can be applied to the affected area of skin.

Unlike capsules, the treatment regimen using gels from different manufacturers is no different, that is, the instructions for using Troxerutin Vramed are identical to the instructions, for example, Troxerutin Vetprom .

Reviews about Troxerutin

It is quite difficult to find negative reviews about Troxerutin gel. Given its low price (the medicine is a 100% analogue of the much more expensive drug Troxevasin ), the drug is described as very effective.

However, as most patients rightly note, to achieve maximum effect, it is better to use it in the early stages of the disease.

To the question “Troxerutin - what is it?” Most people with early manifestations of varicose veins answer that the ointment for them is a real salvation from spider veins, fatigue and soreness of the legs, as well as from bruises and bumps.

One of the indications for the use of the drug is the presence of hemorrhoids (a common problem that is especially often encountered by pregnant women and women who have recently given birth).

For hemorrhoids, treatment involves the use of Troxerutin in the form of compresses, and many are satisfied with the results achieved. Although, for the sake of objectivity, it should be said that this method does not help everyone (here, probably, everything depends on the severity of the pathology).

Analyzing the reviews left by patients about Troxerutin capsules and gel for external use, we can conclude that both dosage forms are often powerless for severe lesions: they do not help eliminate large nodes on the venous vessels, but probably prevent the process from worsening.

As for the reviews of doctors about tablets and ointments, almost all experts note the need for their use in combination. In more advanced situations, therapy begins with the prescription of troxerutin drugs in the form of an injection solution.

The key to successful treatment, according to doctors, is the regularity and timeliness of medication use. Moreover, it is optimal to start using the product when the first signs of the development of a pathological process appear.

Patients note that the most pronounced result was achieved in cases where the use of the drug was supplemented by swimming, pouring cold water on the feet, and using products based on essential oils (for example, cypress oil), Ascorutin .

It should be remembered that the composition is not suitable for relieving swelling of the legs, which is associated with kidney dysfunction , liver and heart diseases . Before using the drug and using accompanying therapeutic measures, you should definitely consult your doctor.

Expert opinion

Considering that in recent years the pharmacological market is literally overflowing with various phlebotropic drugs, phlebologists have the opportunity to choose the most optimal medication option from their point of view. However, despite such diversity, it is troxerutin that has occupied a leading position for several decades and is one of the most popular drugs for the drug treatment of CVI, varicose veins and other vascular diseases.
