In addition to treating eye diseases, drops can also come to the rescue when an unexpected pimple suddenly appears on the face. Thanks to its beneficial properties, the drug will help remove redness and inflammation from the skin area, and make the pimple itself less noticeable. The whole secret is in the unique property of the drops to constrict blood vessels: such use can significantly reduce the size of the rash, as well as reduce the inflammatory process. You should not use eye drops to treat skin from acne or acne, since Visine only helps reduce swelling and constrict blood vessels.

Reviews from doctors

Igor Sanzherovsky, ophthalmologist, 34 years old, Moscow

Visin eye drops are an ideal remedy for “dry eyes”, a useful option for moisturizing the mucous membrane: it removes the effect of red eyes, constricts blood vessels, relieves fatigue and redness. However, you should not count on it as the main drug for treatment: it only helps relieve symptoms. Well suited for those people who spend a lot of time in front of a TV screen or computer monitor. Some patients believe that Visin can be used while wearing contact lenses, but I strongly do not recommend this: such a combination of eye drops with lenses can harm both the structure of the lens and the organs of vision.

Svetlana Konyushevskaya, ophthalmologist, 45 years old, Odessa

The drug will be an excellent assistant for those who have a meeting or photo shoot planned, and their eyes are inflamed. A couple of drops of Visine can easily solve the situation. But you should not consider these eye drops as a medicine: their benefit is precisely in relieving the symptoms of the inflammatory process.

Due to the fact that I have to spend a lot of time at the computer, my eyes periodically react with irritation. In addition, I often go to the pool, which also adds redness to the conjunctiva. Perhaps this is the effect of chlorinated water. In such cases, Vizin reliably helps: its benefits are constant in getting rid of both irritation and redness.

Reviews about Vizin classic

The vasoconstrictor effect of tetrizoline , the active ingredient of Vizin classic, manifests itself very quickly and is accompanied by a decrease in blood supply and redness of the conjunctiva of the eyes. This is evidenced by reviews of people who, for various reasons, resorted to their use:

  • “...I get irritated from chlorinated water, so I use these drops periodically. They give effect very quickly."
  • “... My eyes turn red if I work a lot and don’t get enough sleep. In the morning I drop it in and after 20 minutes the whites are white, it does a great job.”
  • “... I really like it, it’s suitable for all cases when the eyes are red - after the pool, with lack of sleep, stress on the computer.”
  • “... It’s very convenient to use Visine in ampoules—you can take it to work or to the pool. I always have it in my bag for emergencies.”
  • “... I take Visin ampoules with me on business trips, they always help out after a sleepless night on the train.”

Vasoconstrictor eye drops should be used for a short time, as adverse reactions may occur: dry eyes, dilated pupils. It is absolutely not permissible to use them if your eyes are tired while working at the computer. Many patients did not take this into account and used the drug incorrectly, resulting in unwanted effects.

  • “... After using it for two weeks, I noticed that dryness and pain appeared in the eyes.”
  • “... I used it every day for almost a month, my eyes turned even redder and were in a terrible state.”
  • “... I spend the whole day at the computer, my eyes get tired and red. I didn’t take into account that you can’t use Visine for a long time and used it for a whole month - my eyes got even worse. Don't repeat my mistake."

To eliminate dryness of the conjunctiva and pain in the eyes, which often occurs when working at a computer, you need to use artificial tear preparations.

Description and composition of Visin eye drops

Visin eye drops are a sympathomimetic drug that stimulates the sympathetic nerves, which has useful vasoconstrictor and local decongestant properties. This is a colorless transparent solution without a characteristic odor. Available in plastic dropper bottles of 15 ml.

The main active ingredient in Visin eye drops is tetrizoline hydrochloride (0.5 mg/ml, 0.05%).

The composition also includes excipients: boric acid, sodium chloride, disodium edetate, benzalkonium chloride solution 17%, sodium borate and purified water.

When in contact with the eye, tetrizoline hydrochloride is beneficial in reducing intraocular pressure, contracting the orbicularis iris muscle and the ciliary muscle. At the same time, the pupil narrows, the outflow of fluid inside the eye increases, and the angle of the anterior chamber opens in the eye itself.

As a result of such processes, eye drops have the beneficial property of improving the trophism of eye tissue, due to which intraocular pressure becomes lower.

Boric acid: ophthalmologists note the particular benefits and effectiveness of this substance in combating the harm of conjunctivitis and inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye. The beneficial properties of boric acid are manifested when washing the eyelid cavity and treating the eyeball in case of inflammatory processes.

Sodium chloride (or saline): a sterile isotonic saline solution that is as close as possible to the composition of the fluids in our body - blood and tears. It is useful for washing the eyes during conjunctivitis, eye itching, and also for eliminating pain in the eye area.

Edetate disodium: has the ability to reduce elevated intraocular pressure. It is of particular benefit for people suffering from open-angle glaucoma and high blood pressure (both adults and younger patients).

Sodium borate: has a beneficial antiseptic effect and is used by ophthalmologists to combat fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes of the eyes.

Can Visine be used by pregnant and lactating women?

In the use of Visin by pregnant and lactating women, it is worth highlighting three types of this drug, since each of them has unique beneficial properties.

Visine Pure Tear

This drug is a good prevention of redness of the whites of the eyes and visual fatigue. It is approved for use throughout pregnancy and during lactation, since it is considered a safe prophylactic agent that is not capable of causing harm to the health of mother and baby.

Vizin Alergy

Everything is not so clear here. The active substance of the drug is levocabastine. There is no exact data on its effect on the developing fetus, but it is recommended to use it only if the benefit of the drug really outweighs the risk to the mother and child.

Visin Alergy will be useful:

  • in case of allergic conjunctivitis;
  • to get rid of itching and swelling of the eye;
  • reducing pain;
  • reducing the level of fluid formation inside the eye and stopping lacrimation.

However, it should not be used independently during allergies: for this it is better to consult with an allergist.

Attention! Visine is a strong vasoconstrictor, and its action can significantly impair the supply of oxygen to the tissues of the eye, which is especially undesirable during pregnancy.

Visine classic

During pregnancy, it can only be used with the prescription of an ophthalmologist, since it tends to increase intraocular pressure, so long-term use can lead to glaucoma.

The drug is also addictive, which as a result forces the expectant mother to gradually increase its dose and frequency of instillation.

Pharmacological properties of the drug Vizin

Pharmacodynamics. Tetrizoline is a sympathomimetic agent that directly stimulates α-adrenergic receptors of the sympathetic nervous system, while having little or no effect on β-adrenergic receptors. As a sympathomimetic amine, tetrizoline has a vasoconstrictor effect and thus reduces tissue edema and excessive exudation. The use of the drug leads to a decrease in burning, irritation, itching, pain and lacrimation. Pharmacokinetics. The action develops within a few minutes after instillation into the affected eye and lasts up to 4 hours. Tetrizoline is practically not absorbed when applied topically, if used in recommended doses.

Contraindications for use

Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age, persons with individual intolerance to the components of Visina, with closed-angle glaucoma, as well as endothelial-epithelial dystrophy of the cornea.

"Vizin" is used with increased caution in the presence of cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, pheochromocytoma, as well as in parallel use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors or other drugs that increase blood pressure.
