Benzocaine.
Symptoms:
Possible drowsiness, anxiety, agitation, and in severe cases, convulsions due to its systemic absorption. There are reports that the administration of drugs containing benzocaine may cause methemoglobinemia. Symptoms such as cyanosis of the skin, lips and nail beds, headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, weakness, tachycardia may indicate methemoglobinemia, which is potentially life-threatening and requires immediate medical intervention.
Treatment:
gastric lavage, administration of saline laxatives, activated carbon. Carrying out forced diuresis, hemodialysis, blood alkalization, symptomatic therapy aimed at supporting vital functions. If a convulsive syndrome develops, administer intravenous diazepam and fast-acting barbiturates, parenteral administration of cholinomimetics and anticholinesterase drugs.
