Neovir: how to use, indications and contraindications

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Neovir is characterized by an antiviral effect against DNA and RNA genomic viruses, as well as a pronounced anti-chlamydial effect.

The use of Neovir leads to a rapid increase in titers of endogenous interferons a, p, y, mainly interferon a. Intramuscular administration of 250 mg of Neovir, based on interferon concentrations determined in serum, is equivalent to the intake of 6–9 million IU of recombinant interferon a into the body. The maximum activity of interferons in the blood is recorded after 1.5–2 hours and persists for 16–20 hours after administration of the drug. As a result, a cascade of immune reactions is activated in the body, associated with the destruction and elimination of pathogens and cells affected by them. Interferon-producing cells become capable of intense interferon production as a response to re-induction caused by a pathological agent. This property remains unchanged for a long period of time after Neovir is discontinued.

The immunomodulatory effect is explained by the drug’s ability to activate hematopoietic stem cells, stimulate the effector parts of the immune system, and normalize the balance of T-lymphocyte subpopulations. Neovir significantly enhances the functional activity of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and macrophages, stimulating their phagocytic activity and migration.

The drug corrects tissue growth: increases the activity of NK cells, enhances any form of cytotoxicity, promotes the regeneration of cell adhesiveness, and inhibits their metastatic and proliferative activity.

Pharmacokinetics

When administered intramuscularly, the bioavailability of the drug exceeds 90%. After administration of 100–500 mg of Neovir, the maximum plasma level is determined after 15–30 minutes and is equal to 8.3 mcg/ml. 5 hours after administration into the body, only minor concentrations of the drug are recorded, and after 6 hours its traces are not detected in the blood plasma.

Neovir is excreted through the kidneys unchanged, without participating in metabolic processes. The half-life is 1 hour.

15-30 minutes after the administration of Neovir, the titers of endogenous interferons, mainly early interferon a, begin to increase in the blood plasma. 2 peaks of interferon a concentration in plasma were detected: 70 IU/ml after 1.5–2 hours and 110 IU/ml after 8–10 hours, after which the level of the substance begins to gradually decrease. After 24 hours, the level of endogenous interferons remains quite high and returns to initial values only 46–48 hours after administration.

fight against bad habits. Is it possible to drink alcohol with Neovir?

Antiviral drugs are used for influenza, ARVI, hepatitis C, depending on their mechanism of action and the origin of the main active substance. With a mild form of the disease, you can do without medications, because The immune system can cope on its own. However, if there are complications, you cannot do without antiviral drugs. In this article we will talk about the action of antiviral drugs, indications, contraindications, and also analyze how compatible antiviral drugs and alcohol are.

Medicines whose main action is aimed at suppressing the symptoms of influenza and ARVI can be divided into several groups:

  • Interferon is a protein substance that is produced by cells infected with viruses. The main task is to prevent the formation and reproduction of viruses inside cells. The task of Interferon is to alleviate the symptoms of colds and viral diseases. Most drugs are obtained artificially. The product is available in the form of powder or tablets, the main purpose of which is aimed at eliminating and preventing ARVI; the dosage for prevention and treatment is different. It is worth noting that this remedy is also used to treat viral conjunctivitis;
  • Interferon inducer – these substances are aimed at producing the body’s own interferons. Available in the form of tablets or powder that can stimulate cellular immunity and increase the body's resistance to viral infections and bacteria. All drugs in this category can be taken both for prevention and treatment;
  • Cyclic amines - this drug is known as Rimantadine, its action is to suppress and neutralize viral bacteria. Release form powder for oral use and tablets. All drugs in this category are aimed at suppressing the virus in the body, and the main effect is to suppress bacteria and block the release of the virus from the infected cell. Thus, ARVI virions are not able to leave the skin cells and die within it. This group of drugs has a strong side effect - the formation of strong hallucinations, the appearance of unreasonable psychosis, mental disorders and disorders of consciousness.;
  • Preparations of plant origin contain extracts of alder fruit extracts, which are capable of producing the body’s own interferon naturally and suppressing influenza viruses. Absolutely all products from this category provide strong support to the immune system and help to easily overcome the disease in a short period of time. It is worth noting that the medicinal active substances of these drugs allow their use during lactation and during the first and second trimesters, but only as prescribed by the attending physician.;
  • Other antiviral drugs - a medicine in this group is not included in the medicinal substances described above. The most common drugs are Amizon. This antiviral drug helps strengthen the immune system. It belongs to the group of non-narcotic analgesics. Its main action is aimed at reducing fever, fighting inflammation and pain relief.

Viruses are a living organism, with a complete lack of metabolism. In simple terms, viral cells cannot be alive unless they are inside the body. Their active life activity and reproduction is possible only through intracellular parasitism.

Important! Genetically, a viral molecule consists of DNA and RNA molecules placed in a protein shell. During the period of penetration into the cell, all genetic material leaves this shell and penetrates the genome of the body cell. The cytoplasm affected by the virus accumulates viral bacteria, which eventually come out of it and infect healthy cells of the body.

The action of all antiviral drugs is aimed at eliminating the formation of bacteria and viruses:

  • complete blocking of the release and penetration of viral bacteria from the cells of the body; Amantadine and Rinantadine cope with this task perfectly;
  • absolute blocking of viral replication of DNA and RNA; absolutely all drugs can cope with this task;
  • destruction of the process of formation and assembly of viral bacteria inside the cells of the body, blocking their exit from the cytoplasm and further infection.

For information! Most of the antiviral drugs presented do not have high safety and effectiveness, unlike antibiotics, with the help of which medicine has significantly increased the ability to effectively fight viral bacteria.

Antiviral drugs have absolutely no compatibility with alcohol. When combining alcohol with a chemical substance, there is a possibility of a negative and strong effect on the nervous system. It is under the influence of ethanol products that negative consequences can arise, such as:

  • depression;
  • severe headache and dizziness;
  • overexcitation, mental disorders, neuroses, sudden and unreasonable mood swings;
  • attacks of nausea and severe vomiting.

Experts do not recommend taking antiviral medications if:

  • use of alcohol or drugs;
  • terminal process of cirrhosis;
  • mental health problems and major depression;
  • pregnancy regardless of trimester;
  • lactation period;
  • rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases

All medications have a long-term effect, and as a rule, the activity of the active substance remains in the body for up to 7 days. Is it possible to drink alcoholic beverages during this period? Definitely not, because... it may reduce the effectiveness of treatment, weaken the immune system, and cause irreversible and negative health effects. In medical practice, there are cases where alcohol and medications were combined and the patient did not experience any side effects. However, you should not risk your health. Watch the video to learn how alcohol and drugs behave.

Do not risk your health and life; we advise you to refrain from drinking alcohol and taking medications for ARVI and influenza.
