Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Pantoderm plus is a preparation for topical use, the effect of which is due to the properties of its active substances:

  • dexpanthenol is a B vitamin, a derivative of pantothenic acid. Once in the human body, it is converted into pantothenic acid, which is an integral part of coenzyme A. It is involved in carbohydrate and fat metabolism, acetylation processes, and the synthesis of corticosteroids, porphyrins and acetylcholine. Normalizes cellular metabolism, stimulates skin regeneration, accelerates mitosis, normalizes cellular metabolism, increases the strength of collagen fibers. Has a weak anti-inflammatory, metabolic and regenerative effect;
  • chlorhexidine is an antiseptic and antimicrobial agent. Shows activity against dermatophytes, yeast-like fungi, gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms, including E. coli, Enterococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Effective even in the presence of pus, blood, various secretions and organic substances.

Pantoderm plus suppresses the course of the infectious process, protects the wound surface from infections, and accelerates healing.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, dexpanthenol is quickly absorbed into the skin and converted into pantothenic acid and binds to plasma proteins (mainly albumin and beta globulin). The concentration of pantothenic acid in the blood is 0.5–1 mg/l, in the blood serum – 0.1 mg/l. Pantothenic acid is not metabolized (except for inclusion in coenzyme A). It is excreted from the body unchanged.

Chlorhexidine is practically not absorbed when applied topically.

Analogs

Analogues include drugs whose main active ingredient is dexpanthenol:

  • Korneregel. An expensive and high-quality analogue, superior to Pantoderm in almost everything. It acts faster and relieves pain better. The only negative is the price of 400 rubles per tube.
  • D-Panthenol. It costs twice as much as the medicine described above. It is the closest analogue of Pantoderm ointment. Price 220 rubles.

The drug has about 13 analogues, as well as drugs with a similar mechanism of action:

  • Ointment Zvezdochka. A cheap solution that will help isolate the wound from external infection;
  • Dolgit. Ibuprofen-based cream, which also effectively relieves inflammation and swelling.
  • Ordinary Vaseline will help close a wound or burn from external factors.
  • Bepanten also treats inflammation and burns.
  • Levomekol prevents the formation of bumps and swelling.

special instructions

The cream must be used with caution, avoiding contact with the eyes and mucous membranes.

If the wound does not decrease in size within some time or does not heal within 10–14 days, you should consult a doctor. Medical assistance is also necessary in cases where the wound suddenly swells, the edges of the injury are severely hyperemic, the general condition is accompanied by fever, or severe pain appears.

Impact on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

The components in Pantoderma Plus do not have the ability to have any effect on a person’s mental and cognitive functions, and therefore cannot impair concentration and reaction speed.

Reviews

Galina Sergeevna, 54 years old

I used this drug to treat a burn. A terrible thing - while I was in the room, my nephew turned over a jar of boiling water and doused himself. Burns 20% of the skin area. I was lucky that the burn was not serious, so there was no surgery. We limited ourselves to ointments and antibiotics. I wanted to buy Korneregel, since it’s the best thing on the market, but the doctor recommended Pantoderm and said that it’s the same thing, only half the price. It was possible to restore the normal surface of the skin in a few months. The redness went away within a month. I won’t say exactly how many tubes it took, but I will say that they were the only ones I ran to the pharmacy for. I recommend it to everyone!

Anna, 18 years old

Once I burned myself at work (I work in a coffee shop), and it was also summer. It is impossible to work in such conditions. I ran to the pharmacy; I was lucky that the pharmacist was understanding and suggested a cheap option. I took Pandoterm and “Zvezdochka”. At first I applied the second one to cool my hand, then I started on the first preparation. I didn’t even notice how by evening my arm stopped hurting and bothering me. I completely forgot that I was burned recently. Now I remember two rules: do not open the tap all the way and carry this ointment with you. 5 months have passed since then, and she has saved me more than once.

Mikhail, 31 years old

Hi all! It’s not for me to tell you about work-related injuries. When it’s +45 in the shop, work is in full swing in the literal sense of the word, but you still have to turn in your shift! Injuries are out of the question. I forgot about the gloves and took the hot tool and burned my palm. The pain was severe, but it was lucky that the factory first aid kit had Pandoterm. I applied it to my hand, bandaged it, and went further into the workshop. The first hour it was painful, especially since it was hot around, and then this glove was heating up. But when I was getting ready to go home, I couldn’t believe my eyes - everything was in order. The burn, of course, remained, but there were no usual blisters and swelling.

Vladimir Alexandrovich, 27 years old

I bought this ointment on the advice of a friend. Treated burns in children. The situation is classic - we learned to smoke. We found cigarettes at my dad's place, one of them, and the other one was putting it out on himself. Many spots remained on the body; it was lucky that they didn’t think of extinguishing it on the face. They applied it without the hope that there would be no scars, but in vain. Only pale traces remained, which disappeared after a couple of days. They don’t play like that anymore because they’ve grown up, but the ointment still remains. My advice to parents is not to buy expensive ointments. This drug cured cigarette (!) burns in a few days.

What is the difference between Bepanthen cream and ointment, and which is better?

There are no fundamental differences between one composition and another, but there are several not very serious ones.

  • Due to the increased content of fatty substances, the ointment has a longer absorption time, as well as the period of active action, than the cream. Also, the components from its composition will penetrate into deeper layers of tissue.
  • When using the cream, there is no greasy residue left on the skin like an ointment.
  • If dermatitis or wounds are wet, it is not advisable to apply fats to them and therefore a cream is used to treat the damage.
  • If it is necessary to use a product under a bandage, an ointment must be used, since the cream is completely unsuitable for this due to its low fat content.

There are no other noteworthy differences.

Indications

Bepanten ointment is used by:

  • For diaper dermatitis.
  • For diaper rash.
  • For minor thermal burns.
  • For abrasions.
  • If skin irritation occurs, such as heat rash or contact dermatitis.
  • After a sunburn.
  • For diathesis, which is manifested by severe dryness, redness and peeling.
  • For minor frostbite on the cheeks.
  • For ulcerative skin lesions that do not heal for a long time.
  • When bedsores appear.
  • For herpes zoster.
  • After skin grafting.

In addition, the drug is applied to soften the skin, relieve itching and faster healing for chickenpox and bruises. Bepanten can also be used to lubricate lips for chapping, cracks or herpes. Mothers use this drug for cracked nipples and for cosmetic purposes.

Instructions for use

To calculate the dosage, you need to decide what the ointment is used for. Let's look at the most common treatment methods:

Pantoderm has complete and clear instructions

  • For burns, apply a small amount of ointment to the affected area and the skin around it. If the burn area is large, ointment alone is not enough. There is no need to apply it every hour, as this will reduce the effectiveness. The maximum amount of the active substance penetrates the skin and is not immediately processed by receptors and tissues. By applying layer after layer, the patient will slow down the metabolism in the skin, overloading the lymphatic system and not allowing the epithelium to breathe. The optimal frequency is 2 times a day - morning and evening.
  • For bruises, you can apply a little more often. The analgesic effect will be provided by a small thin layer of ointment, which must be rubbed in until completely dry. 4-5 times a day will be enough to relieve swelling and speed up the outflow of fluid.
  • To prevent complications, apply the ointment once a day before bedtime, rubbing in until completely dry. You can apply a compress with ointment or lotion to ensure even absorption throughout the night.

Interaction with other drugs

Does not combine well with analogues that have the same active ingredient. Most often, this leads to allergic reactions and additional accumulation of fluid at the site of injury.

Can be used with:

  • vitamin complexes and monocomponent preparations (except for those that include B vitamins, especially vitamin B5 in a dosage of more than 1000 mU). If the body has a high concentration of this vitamin, inflammation will progress faster than usual;
  • herbal-based preparations (herbal decoctions, oil preparations, extracts). For example, a decoction of celandine goes well with Pantoderm and helps the skin absorb it faster;
  • antibiotics and potent drugs, but only if the doctor himself prescribed them

What does Pantoderm help with?

Most often, the ointment is used for first and second degree burns to eliminate pain and prevent bloating and swelling. Blisters that appear after burns are a consequence of a violation of the water-salt balance and the functions of the lymphatic system. Dexpanthenol helps restore local balance, which eliminates discomfort.

Pantoderm also helps with burns

  • Also, the ointment will help with sprains and bruises, recovery from injuries, and prevention of complications.
  • As a local anesthetic. Suitable for relieving pain in muscles and ligaments, since dexpanthenol weakens the sensitivity of pain receptors and relieves pain.
  • In combination with other drugs prescribed by the doctor. At the same time, there should be no drugs containing dexpanthenol or panthenol.

What is Pantoderm used for:

  • thermal burns;
  • allergic reactions provoked by contact with plants;
  • mechanical injuries to the skin;
  • swelling;
  • bruises;

Pantoderm, as a moisturizing and healing agent, is used for burns, injuries, bruises

Depending on the situation, the doctor may prescribe compresses with this ointment even when there are no symptoms described above. In combination with other drugs, this may work (cause a synergistic effect).

An effective analogue of Pantoderma Bepanten cream is a drug for quickly restoring skin damage.

Indications for use

Indications for use of the product are quite varied. Bepanthen is the best medicine for many skin problems. For children under one year old, use an adult ointment or a special product “bepanthen for child care”.

The main indications for the use of the composition in the care of infants are:

  • diaper rash – ointment and cream quickly restores the baby’s skin and, after the first use, relieves the child of unpleasant sensations that can greatly torment and bother him;
  • various cracks and scratches on the skin - they most often appear in children older than 3 months, when the period of active movement begins, and they can be injured by objects, or by accidentally hitting themselves with a nail;
  • diaper dermatitis - bepanten is often used as the main drug for therapy;
  • Miliaria of newborns - the drug is included in complex therapy.

For adults, there are certain indications for the use of bepanten:

  • prevention of cracks and inflammation of the nipples during breastfeeding - the ointment does not penetrate into the milk and does not pose a danger to the baby. With regular use, the product can completely prevent the occurrence of a problem that is very common;
  • sunburn - use the product if there are no blisters;
  • treatment of irritated and inflamed skin, when the disorder appears after swimming in open water, working in dust, or staying in damp, sweaty clothes for a long time;
  • thermal burns – the drug helps to cure injuries of varying degrees;
  • hemorrhoids - ointment is used in complex therapy to accelerate tissue restoration and relieve discomfort in the problem area;
  • cracks in the anus - the use of ointment is carried out in complex therapy to accelerate the tissue healing process and relieve pain;
  • for the face for skin problems, including for the treatment of acne - the cream can be used as needed or as a means for regular skin care if it is very dry and often cracks;
  • accelerating the healing of postoperative sutures, especially in cases of skin grafting.

It is also useful to have a remedy for treating various household skin injuries, as well as water calluses. You can lubricate the composition with very itchy insect bites; the discomfort and redness will go away very quickly. The ointment will be useful for herpes, the healing of which it accelerates, increased dryness of the lips, and cracks in the heels.

Pantoderm ointment description

They are all positive, a universal remedy that can help with almost any skin damage should definitely be in the first aid kit, especially where there are small children.

The ointment is white-yellow (cream), thick, the smell is quite specific, but it quickly evaporates from the skin. The consistency is similar to Bepanten, only a little thicker.

The active component in the composition is dexpanthenol. In skin cells it turns into panthenolic acid, which heals damage to the mucous membranes and skin and stimulates regeneration.

What is it needed for?

Indicated for:

  • Dry skin;
  • Burns (including sunburn);
  • Scratches, wounds, abrasions;
  • Caring for nipples during breastfeeding (prevention and treatment of cracks, inflammation);
  • Boils; bedsores, cracks;
  • Treatment of diaper rash in infants;
  • Aseptic postoperative wounds;
  • Trophic ulcers of the leg;
  • Bullous dermatitis.

For lips

In winter, I lubricate my lips every night to prevent them from chapping and cracking. And if they are cracked, then using the same method you can get rid of pain and pinching overnight, and in a few days you can get rid of the crack itself.

It will also help cope with herpes and scars after it.

Pantoderm after treatment of the cervix

After treating cervical erosion, it is very important that the healing process proceeds correctly and scars do not appear. Usually Depantol suppositories are used for this, but they cost around 600 rubles and are less effective than Pantoderm, although the active substance is the same

Usually Depantol suppositories are used for this, but they cost around 600 rubles and are less effective than Pantoderm, although the active substance is the same.

How to use Pantoderm for this? The doctor recommended this regimen to me, so there is no need to be afraid. You need to make a tampon from sterile cotton wool and a bandage, apply a large amount of ointment to it and administer it overnight (or for 7-8 hours). The course of treatment is 10 days.

After 10 days, the doctor said that healing was successful and no pathologies had arisen.

Pantoderm for burns

Mom used it after she burned herself with an iron (although until recently she begged me to just rub it with soap, oh, these old methods). They applied it immediately once, and after a couple of hours she forgot about this burn, so much so that the next day, when asked “How is your hand?”, she did not immediately realize what I was asking about.

I also remembered a case when my husband was very badly scalded by boiling water. Since he didn’t have time, he had to work and did bandages in the morning and evening. First, I thoroughly lubricated everything with hydrogen peroxide to remove all the blemishes, then I used Pantoderm and applied a bandage on top (so as not to stain clothes and not to smear the preparation), folded in 3-4 layers (it is no longer necessary for the skin to have access to air and there will be no burns). festered), and secured with adhesive tape.

Pantoderm for hands

I use this method mainly in winter, since at this time the skin of our hands suffers the most. What can I say, it copes with a bang, the skin of the hands, despite the cold, remains soft and tender.

I also use it for cuticle care. Since I constantly cover my nails with gel polish, the cuticle suffers very much (from an ultraviolet lamp, from nail polish remover), so after a manicure I always lubricate it with Pantoderm at night for the first four days. The cuticle is in perfect condition.

I highly recommend having this product in every home, because there are always some household burns or long-healing wounds that Pantoderm can deal with in a matter of hours.

Instructions for use of Bepanten ointment

The medicine is intended for external use. Bepanten ointment is applied in a thin layer to the damaged surface with light massaging movements 1-2 times a day.

When treating children's skin, the ointment is applied to clean skin after each change of underwear or diapers.

Some patients prefer to use Bepanten cream because the drug has a lighter texture, it is quickly and easily absorbed and does not stain clothes.

According to the instructions for use of Bepanten cream, this dosage form is not effective in all cases. The ointment is suitable for treating problem areas of the skin and wound surfaces, since it is able to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and has a longer healing effect, while the cream acts only on the surface of the skin.

The ointment has a large list of indications for use. It is used to treat trophic ulcers of the lower extremities, inflammation, boils, bedsores, sunburn, and treatment of postoperative wounds. It is effective in relieving dryness and dehydration of the skin.

The gel is recommended for treating minor injuries: small wounds, scratches, pimples.

During the breastfeeding period, Bepanten is used to treat nipples after each feeding if there is irritation or cracks.

For anal fissures and cervical erosion, the drug should be applied to a cotton swab and inserted inside. The ointment is used 1-2 times a day.

For the treatment of open wounds, bedsores and erosion, ointment is recommended. The product is applied to the surface and, if necessary, covered with a sterile bandage. For weeping wounds, apply cream. If the drug is used regularly, a positive result will be achieved in a short time.

To treat the skin to prevent skin rashes and diaper rash, the following rules should be followed:

  • the product is applied with each change of underwear or diapers until complete healing;
  • Before applying the product, you should thoroughly clean the skin with warm water and wipe dry;
  • The drug is applied in a thin layer with light circular movements.

Bepanten ointment is completely safe during pregnancy. Women and unborn child. It does not cause harm to health. The drug is used to treat problem skin.

Use in childhood

Bepanten is safe for the health of the child.
Its use is recommended for infants, since Bepanten contains a low concentration of the active substance. Side effects are possible only in case of individual intolerance to the components of the product, which manifests itself in the form of itching, burning, redness of the skin, and urticaria. Children's doctors recommend using Bepanten cream to eliminate the symptoms of diaper rash, prickly heat, diathesis, minor scratches and abrasions, and burns.

To prevent diaper dermatitis, the buttocks and groin area should be treated after each diaper change.
