Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of the drug

Before using an anti-cold medication, you should study its pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in more detail.

Pharmacodynamics

The drug contains bendazole, which is responsible for stimulating the production of endogenous interferon. Thanks to this, the body's defense against viruses improves. Also, due to ascorbic acid, capillary permeability improves, which helps eliminate inflammation.

Pharmacokinetics

With prolonged use of the medicine, microelements from its composition begin to be completely absorbed. Moreover, the bioavailability of most components exceeds 60-70%. They are eliminated from the body gradually, along with urine.

Pharmacokinetics

When taken orally, the drug is completely absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

The bioavailability of bendazole is about 80%, alpha-glutamyl tryptophan is no more than 15% and ascorbic acid is 90%. Metabolites of ascorbic acid and bendazole are excreted in the urine.

Alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan, under the influence of peptidases, is broken down into L-glutamic acid and L-tryptophan, which are used by the body in peptide synthesis.

Instructions for use

People who are going to fight a cold with the help of Cytovir-3 should study the instructions for its use.

Capsules are used to treat adults. Before using them, you will have to familiarize yourself with the optimal dosage. Every day the patient will have to take medications twice a day an hour before eating. The duration of the therapeutic course is determined by the doctor based on the symptoms.

Children, pregnancy and breastfeeding

When treating children, they use powder and syrup for oral administration. The drug in syrup form is taken undiluted before meals. The daily dose for children under three years old is 2-3 ml, from three to six years old - 4-5. Children over six years old take 4 ml of syrup three times a day.

Using the powder is a little more difficult, since you will have to prepare the medicinal liquid yourself. To do this, one sachet of medicine is poured into 40-50 ml of boiled water. The solution is drunk every day for a week.

Pregnant girls will have to consult a doctor before using Cytovir-3 to confirm the safety of the medicine. Women who feed newborns with breast milk are contraindicated to use the drug.

special instructions

The antiviral drug Cytovir-3 is used to maintain and restore the resistance of the human immune system. When prescribed to children, it is used according to the attached instructions and doctor’s recommendations.

Capsules are prescribed to patients over 10 years of age, and young children are prescribed syrup or powder from which a sweet drink is prepared. All forms of the drug are taken orally in doses prescribed by the doctor.

Taking these medications has its own characteristics, such as:

The need to control plasma sugar during long-term or repeated treatment

This is important because a sharp jump in glucose levels is possible, which can lead to a diabetic coma. The use of the drug has virtually no effect on the speed of reaction of the brain and nerve cells of the body to external stimuli. When treated with Tsitovir, a person does not need to be removed from driving or operating complex machinery. Experts do not recommend using this drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

There is no clear data on its effect on the fetus and the newly born child. The exception to use when breastfeeding a baby is a real threat to the mother and minimal potential harm that may threaten the child.

Side effects

Some patients complain that after using the medicine they are bothered by side effects and other complications. Improper use of the product negatively affects the functioning of the following systems:

  • Digestive. People often complain of difficulty digesting food, which causes heartburn with nausea.
  • Endocrine. The insular apparatus of the pancreas is affected, which leads to hyperglycemia.
  • Cardiovascular. Disturbances in the functioning of this system manifest themselves in the form of a decrease in pressure and an accelerated heartbeat.
  • Immune. When the immune system is weakened, a rash appears on the surface of the skin, accompanied by itching.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Cytovir-3 syrup for children is a means of immunostimulating and etiotropic therapy. The drug has indirect antiviral activity against influenza A and B pathogens and other viruses that cause acute respiratory infections (acute respiratory diseases).

When using syrup, the severity of the main clinical signs of ARVI (acute respiratory viral infections) and influenza is reduced, the overall duration of the disease is reduced and the risk of complications is reduced.

The drug increases the content of sIgA (secretory immunoglobulin A) in the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, which is the entrance gate of infection, thereby strengthening local immunity to respiratory bacterial and viral infections.

When used for preventive purposes, Cytovir-3 syrup for children enhances the metabolic activity of monocytes and neutrophil granulocytes (innate immune cells). Due to this, in the event of an infection developing, their ability to absorb and destroy viral and bacterial agents increases (due to an increase in the number of phagocytic cells, increased oxidative activity and the synthesis of cationic proteins). At the same time, the initial metabolic activity of innate immune cells is unchanged and in the absence of pathogenic viruses and bacteria it is within normal limits.

Bendazole, which is part of the syrup, has immunomodulatory properties. It induces the production of endogenous interferon, and enzymes, the synthesis of which is stimulated by this interferon, inhibit viral replication.

Thymogen (alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan) normalizes the T-cell component of immunity, exhibiting synergy with the immunomodulatory effect of bendazole.

Ascorbic acid has antioxidant properties (it neutralizes free oxygen radicals formed during the inflammatory process), normalizes the permeability of small blood vessels, reducing inflammation, and also activates the humoral immune system, that is, it increases the body's resistance to infections.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of the drug is complete. The bioavailability of ascorbic acid is up to 70%, bendazole is about 80%, and thymogen is no more than 15%.

Absorption of ascorbic acid occurs mainly in the jejunum; it is 25% bound to plasma proteins. The time to reach maximum plasma concentration is 4 hours. Ascorbic acid easily penetrates platelets, leukocytes and other body tissues and passes through the placental barrier. The binding of ascorbic acid in the intestine decreases in patients with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, helminthic infestation, giardiasis, as well as when consuming fruit and vegetable juices and alkaline drinks. Metabolism occurs mainly in the liver. First, ascorbic acid is converted into deoxyascorbic acid, which then decomposes into oxaloacetic and diketogulonic acids. Metabolites and unchanged ascorbic acid are excreted through the intestines, kidneys, breast milk and secretions of the sweat glands.

Bendazole is biotransformed by carboethoxylation and methylation of the imino group of the imidazole ring. As a result, two metabolites are formed - 1-carboethoxy-2-benzylbenzimidazole and 1-methyl-2-benzylbenzimidazole. They are excreted in the urine.

Thymogen, under the influence of peptidases, is broken down into L-tryptophan and L-glutamic acid, which are then used in the process of protein synthesis.

Contraindications

Not everyone can use Cytovir-3, as it has contraindications. It is recommended to study them in advance to reduce the likelihood of complications after taking the medicine.

Tablets and syrup should not be used by patients who are allergic to any trace element in the composition. Also, doctors do not recommend using the medication for people with seizures and decreased muscle tone. Other contraindications include the following pathologies:

  • chronic nephritis;
  • kidney diseases;
  • thrombosis;
  • hypotension;
  • diabetes.

Drug interactions

To quickly get rid of colds, complex treatment with various medications is used. Therefore, it is necessary to understand in advance the compatibility of Cytovir-3 with other medications.

The drug combines well with non-selective beta-blockers, which enhance the effect of bendazole. Doctors also advise taking the medicine along with antihypertensive medications and diuretics.

Do not take the tablets with fresh juices or alkaline drinks. With this combination, the level of ascorbic acid excretion from the body decreases, causing it to accumulate.

Mechanism of action

This is an immunomodulatory drug used for immunostimulating and etiotropic therapy.
It has an indirect antiviral effect against influenza types B and A, as well as other viruses that provoke the occurrence of ARVI. Bendazole promotes the production of endogenous interferon with an immunostimulating effect. The component helps normalize the body's immune response.

As a result, enzymes produced under the influence of interferon help suppress the replication of the viral pathogen. Thymogen is a synergist of the immunomodulatory effect of bendazole, which helps normalize the T-cell components of the immune system.

Ascorbic acid helps activate the humoral components of the immune system, improve the permeability of small vessels, which helps reduce the inflammatory process in tissues. Ascorbic acid also has an antioxidant effect, neutralizing oxygen radicals that always accompany the inflammatory process. This increases the body’s resistance to viral pathogens in general.

The maximum concentration of substances in the blood is observed 4 hours after administration.

Conditions and periods of storage of the medicine

After purchasing the medicine, you need to take care of its storage. Any medication must be stored in optimal conditions that will prevent it from deteriorating quickly.

"Tsitovir-3" should be stored at room temperature, 15-20 degrees above zero. Therefore, you should not keep it in the refrigerator or in the sun for a long time. Also, you should not store the drug on the balcony, as there is a high level of humidity there.

The place in which the medicine is kept must be reliably protected from children. To prevent children from taking medications on their own, they are placed in drawers or boxes that are locked with a key.

Operating principle

"Tsitovir-3" refers to drugs with an immunostimulating effect, as it is able to stimulate the formation of interferon in the human body. Thanks to the activation of immune cells (mainly the T-cell component), the medication normalizes the state of the immune system, which helps fight infectious agents.

This drug also has antiviral activity, in particular against influenza A and B viruses, as well as many other pathogens of respiratory diseases of a viral nature. Thanks to the inclusion of ascorbic acid, Cytovir-3 also affects humoral immunity. In addition, under the influence of this vitamin, capillary permeability is normalized, which helps suppress the inflammatory process.

When taken orally, Tsitovir-3 is absorbed quite quickly. The highest bioavailability among the components of the drug is observed in vitamin C (about 90%) and bendazole (about 80%). But alpha-glutamyl-tryptophan is absorbed by only 15%. After entering the digestive tract, it is broken down into tryptophan and glutamic acid in L-forms. These amino acids are included in the process of peptide synthesis. Other active substances of the drug are converted into metabolites and leave the body in the urine.

Analogues of the drug

It is known that Cytovir-3 has contraindications, due to which some people cannot use it. In this case, to treat a cold you will have to use similar drugs that have similar pharmacological effects.

"Orvirem"

To eliminate the main symptoms of a cold, use Orvirem syrup, made from sodium alginate and rimantadine. Thanks to these components, it is possible to get rid of influenza and ARVI within 8-12 days. Before using Orvirem, it is better to study its contraindications, among which are:

  • diabetes;
  • early stages of pregnancy;
  • chronic liver pathologies.

"Kagocel"

The product is often used not for treatment, but for the prevention of colds, as it strengthens the immune system. Kagocel contains gossypol, which quickly eliminates the causative agents of colds and its main symptoms. The advantages of the drug include the speed of its action, since the therapeutic effect is noticeable within half an hour after administration.

"Anaferon"

To fight colds and strengthen the immune system, you can use Anaferon. The drug contains microelements that quickly reduce the concentration of viruses in tissues and eliminate inflammation. When treating colds, Anaferon is taken three times every day.

Tsitovir - reviews

"Tsitovir" is effective when used in complex therapy, as well as for the prevention of ARVI and influenza. Capsules help especially well when used with folk remedies, such as herbal tea with lemon and others.
