Name VIRKON S TABLETS Name (Latin) Tabulettae Virkon S Composition and release form Virkon S tablets contain as an active ingredient the triple salt of potassium peroxomonosulfate (2RSO5 x KSO4 x K2SO4) - 50% and auxiliary components: alkylbenzenesulfonic acid salt, sodium chloride, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate , sodium hexametaphosphate, sulfamic acid, malic acid, and the dye “Red Diacide”. They are round tablets of pink-gray color with a speckled surface, weighing 5 g. The tablets are easily soluble in water. Aqueous solutions are transparent pink or pink-yellow. Packaged in 10 and 50 tablets in plastic jars with tamper evident lids. Pharmacological properties Virkon C tablets have a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as viruses and fungi. The mechanism of action of the drug is associated with the oxidizing properties of active oxygen released when the components included in the drug interact with water. Active oxygen causes dysfunction of cell membranes and destruction of microbial cells. Organic acids combined with an inorganic buffer create an acidic environment and optimize the disinfectant activity of potassium peroxomonosulfate, making the disinfectant active in hard water and at low ambient temperatures. Working solutions of Virkon S remain active for 4–7 days, have weak corrosive activity, and decompose biologically in the external environment to form non-toxic substances. According to the degree of impact on the body of warm-blooded animals, Virkon S tablets are classified as moderately hazardous substances: LD50 for white mice when administered into the stomach is about 4000 mg/kg of animal weight. In recommended concentrations, it does not have a sensitizing or locally irritating effect on the skin, and is slightly irritating to the mucous membranes. Indications Virkon C tablets are prescribed for preventive and forced (current and final) disinfection of small-sized objects of veterinary supervision, including: the surfaces of premises for keeping animals and the equipment located in them, containers for storing and transporting feed and products of animal origin, vehicles used for transportation raw materials and products of animal origin, equipment and inventory in places where animals gather (animal markets and exhibitions), inventory, tools and utensils in veterinary institutions (clinics, laboratories, vivariums), cages for keeping animals and equipment in kennels for breeding dogs and cats, zoos and circuses. Doses and method of application Disinfection is carried out using a wet method (irrigation, wiping, immersion) with a 1% solution of Virkon C in the absence of animals and products of animal origin. It is allowed to carry out local treatments of individual animal-free cages or work stations in premises occupied by animals, as well as individual pieces of equipment and surface areas (floors, walls, tables), provided that the room is intensively ventilated and there are no people or animals in close proximity to the objects being treated. The working solution of the disinfectant is prepared taking into account the concentration and volume required for treatment, in containers made of corrosion-resistant material. For faster dissolution, Virkon S tablets are added to warm (40 - 45 ºC) water, at the rate of 10 tablets per 5 liters of water, with thorough mixing until they are completely dissolved. Treatment is carried out by irrigation at a rate of 200 - 300 ml/m2 or wiping with a rag moistened with a working solution, twice with an interval of 15 minutes. Exposure - 30 minutes. When treating surfaces that are difficult to disinfect (mesh elements, unpainted wood, rubber, porous materials), the required volume of solution is applied in 2 to 3 doses with an interval of 15 minutes. Animal care items, tools and other small items are immersed in a working disinfectant solution for 10 minutes, after which they are thoroughly washed with running water. Disinfection mats are washed in a disinfectant solution as they become dirty every 4 to 5 days. At the end of the established disinfection exposure, areas of surfaces accessible to animals, feeders, drinking bowls and places where disinfectant may accumulate, as well as objects made of corrosion-resistant materials, are thoroughly washed with water. Side effects Upon contact with mucous membranes, a burning sensation occurs. Contraindications Hypersensitivity to the components of the product. Special instructions Pregnant and breastfeeding women, persons under 18 years of age and those with contraindications for working with disinfectants are not allowed to work with the drug. All work with Virkon S and its working solution must be carried out in special clothing: a cotton suit or robe, a hat, rubber gloves, a respirator and safety glasses. While working, it is prohibited to eat, drink or smoke. At the end of the work, wash your face and hands with warm water and soap, and rinse your mouth with water. If precautions are not followed and Virkon S or its working solution gets on the skin, the contaminated areas should be washed with plenty of running water; if they get into the eyes, they should be immediately rinsed under running water for several minutes and seek medical help. If the product gets into the stomach, drink several glasses of water, then take 10 - 20 crushed tablets of activated carbon. Do not induce vomiting! Types of antiseptics

Statistics show that in most cases the infection is transmitted through the hands. For preventive purposes, you should wash them regularly. Before each procedure, doctors are required to treat their hands with special skin antiseptics, which are offered in different types:

  • alcohol-containing, in the simplest case – ordinary medical alcohol;
  • alcohol-free;
  • liquid soap with antibacterial action;
  • bactericidal gels;
  • disinfectant sanitary napkins.

And in this case, the disinfectant must be selected in accordance with its purpose. The best effect is achieved with the complex use of drugs of various effects.

Classification by toxicity level

From this point of view, there are several types of drugs:

  • acute toxicity, designed for extreme situations. They are prohibited for use in unventilated areas and healthcare institutions, preschool institutions, and require the use of protective suits and gas masks;
  • high toxicity, the use of which is possible only in personal protective equipment in the absence of strangers;
  • compositions that are processed in areas free from people without the use of personal protective equipment by the handler;
  • substances used without restrictions and special conditions.

In the first three cases, it is necessary to ventilate the treated room.
