Use of Erespal for dry cough

A dry (non-productive) cough must be converted into a wet cough to remove phlegm from the lungs. The action of Erespal tablets is aimed precisely at diluting the pulmonary fluid and its increased secretion, which as a result stimulates its rapid and easy elimination from the body. The duration of treatment with the drug depends on the degree of neglect of the disease.

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

The dosage of the drug is indicated in the instructions, but the doctor can vary the dose based on the results of the examination.

Instructions for use of medicine for wet cough

When the cough becomes productive, that is, it becomes wet, it is very important to choose the right medications for treatment. The more competently the medications are selected, the easier it will be to remove sputum and the faster the body will get rid of bacteria

For a wet cough, it is recommended to use products with a liquid consistency, and in this case, the Erespal mixture will be the most optimal solution for a doctor.

The doctor calculates the dosage of syrup based on the patient’s body weight. An effective dose of the drug is 4 mg per 1 kilogram of body weight. The syrup should be taken 30 minutes before meals 3 times a day.

The drug Erespal has not only an anti-inflammatory effect, but also a bronchodilator effect. For this reason, Erespal can also be prescribed for bronchial asthma and other diseases when breathing difficulties occur.

In addition, Erespal will prove to be an indispensable drug for such ailments and phenomena as:

  • Prolonged, exhausting “barking” cough;
  • Aggravated bronchitis, tracheitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, otitis.

The drug must be taken in combination with antibiotics and expectorants. Only in this case will the inflammatory process stop developing and the body will defeat the infection.

The course of treatment with Erespal can last from 1 week (for acute bronchitis) to 3 months for chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs. Erespal in the form of syrup is prescribed, as a rule, to children to get rid of dry or wet cough. The medicine is given to the child before meals: 1-2 spoons 2-3 times a day for children under one year old and 1-2 tablespoons a day up to 3 times a day for one-year-old children.

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

The drug has virtually no contraindications. The only condition is individual intolerance to any of the components included in the syrup or tablets.

It is strictly forbidden to use Erespal during lactation (breastfeeding), since the likelihood of components being released through breast milk is unknown.

How to take Erespal correctly: instructions for tablets and syrup

The medicine should be taken strictly according to the instructions in the dosages prescribed by the doctor. The drug should be taken before meals. The daily dose depends on age, severity of inflammatory processes, patient’s condition, and concomitant pathologies.

For adults

For chronic respiratory diseases, adults are prescribed 1 tablet of the drug 2 times a day. If patients are diagnosed with an acute form of the disease, the doctor can increase the dosage to 240 mg per day - 1 tablet 3 times a day. The course of treatment is determined individually for each patient. Usually the medicine is prescribed to be taken for a week. For chronic pathologies, treatment is extended for several weeks.

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

Erespal cough syrup is prescribed to adults in a daily dose of 45 to 90 ml (3-6 spoons). This dosage is divided into 2 or 3 doses as prescribed by the doctor. If you have high blood sugar, syrup is not prescribed due to the content of components that increase glucose levels.

For children

Erespal is not prescribed for a dry cough in a child under two years of age. The pediatrician selects safe analogues that can be taken by children. The dosage for a child from 2 to 12 years old is calculated based on body weight. The daily dose in childhood is 4 mg of the main substance per 1 kg of weight. The calculated amount of medication is divided into several doses.

If the child weighs less than 10 kg, the recommended dose of syrup is 10-20 ml. The medicine can be added to the feeding bottle. The maximum dosage for children who weigh more than 10 kg should not exceed 60 ml per day. From the age of 12 years, the pediatrician may prescribe an adult dosage. The course of therapy is determined by the doctor. The standard application regimen is 7–10 days. If necessary, treatment is extended to 20 days.

During pregnancy and lactation

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

Since there is no data on the use of Erespal during lactation and the gestational period, the medicine is not recommended for pregnant women. If there is a need for therapy with this drug during breastfeeding, the child is temporarily transferred to artificial feeding. If a woman took Erespal without knowing about her pregnancy, there is no reason to have an induced abortion.

Analogues of the drug

If this medication is not suitable for the child for some reason, a specialist can prescribe analogues of this antitussive. One of the popular analogues is Lazolvan syrup, which can be offered even to small children. The main active ingredient of this drug is ambroxol. The product effectively fights dry cough and can thin sputum; it can also be taken alone or in combination with antibiotic therapy.

As an analogue, we can also highlight the German medicine Ambrobene, which can be taken by children from birth. The cost of the syrup is approximately 150 rubles, and it is suitable for even the smallest patients. The main active ingredient is also ambroxol, which has an expectorant and mucolytic effect. The drug is used to treat various types of bronchitis and tracheitis.

If Erespal does not have the desired effect, a specialist may prescribe Bronchicum - this analogue is more expensive than Erespal, but it is considered more effective. The main active ingredient is thyme extract, which has an expectorant effect; in addition, it is able to thin sputum and alleviate the patient’s condition with bronchitis and tracheitis. Thanks to its herbal composition, this analogue can be taken even by small children.

If the child has reached the age of 12 years, the doctor may prescribe Ambroxol tablets or syrup with a similar active ingredient. The advantages of such a medicine are its affordable cost. However, this drug works well only in combination with antibiotics; if possible, it is recommended to purchase other syrups with an expectorant effect for your child, which have an improved formula and optimal dosages.

Please note that only a doctor should select analogues. Self-selecting such medications can lead to complications and side effects.

Thus, Erespal syrup is an effective cough remedy, has a pleasant taste and is highly effective, so it can be prescribed to children in the absence of contraindications.

Instructions for use

"Erespal" is first shaken and then poured into a measuring cup, a regular teaspoon (it holds 5 ml of the drug, that is, 10 mg of fenspiride) or a tablespoon (this measure will contain 15 ml of the drug, which corresponds to 30 mg of the active ingredient).

It is recommended to take the medication not after meals, but before meals. If a child is bothered by a night cough, then the last dose of Erespal is best taken at night.

The dosage for young patients should be calculated for each child separately based on their body weight. To do this, the baby’s weight in kilograms is multiplied by 4 mg, for example, if the child weighs 15 kg, the result is 15x4 = 60 mg. This is the daily dose of fenspiride for a given patient, which corresponds to 30 ml of syrup. It is divided into 2-4 doses, that is, the child in our example can be given the medicine twice with 15 ml (one tablespoon or a full measuring cup), three times with 10 ml or four times with 7.5 ml per dose.

The average single dosage for patients weighing less than 10 kg is one teaspoon (5 ml), and for children who weigh more, one tablespoon (15 ml) is needed per dose. Depending on the disease, Erespal is taken in such doses from two to four times a day. For the youngest patients, syrup is allowed to be added to food. Adolescents are given the medication 45-90 ml per day, dosing it in tablespoons.

The duration of taking Erespal differs for each child, because the list of diseases for which syrup is prescribed is quite extensive. The course of treatment for ARVI will be short, but for inflammation of the bronchi or other serious lesions of the respiratory tract, the medication will need to be given much longer. Repeated use some time after completion of the previous course should also be agreed with your doctor.

Is Remantadine suitable for children?

Erespal syrup is prescribed with caution suffering from intolerance or increased sensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This is due to the presence of the dye “Sunset Yellow S” in the syrup, which can cause various allergic reactions in such patients.

Patients with a history of diabetes mellitus must remember that Erespal syrup contains sucrose : one teaspoon of the drug is equal to 0.3 XE, one tablespoon is 0.9 XE. This is taken into account when preparing the patient’s diet and calculating the administered insulin.

Description of the drug Erespal

The drug Erespal belongs to the anti-inflammatory antibronchoconstrictor pharmacological group. The main active ingredient in it is fenspiridum, which is an effective bronchodilator. Its bronchodilator properties make it possible to effectively control bronchospasms.

Erespal, in addition to protecting against bronchospasm, was created to help cope with the inflammatory process in the respiratory tract. Therefore, the instructions for Erespal contain an impressive list of indications for its use:

  • diseases of the throat and pharynx (for example, nasopharyngitis);
  • bronchitis of various forms;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • whooping cough, measles, ARVI, acute respiratory infections, influenza (Erespal helps to cope with cough, hoarseness, tickle);
  • otitis;
  • sinusitis.

Erespal is available in two dosage forms: syrup and tablets. The tablet form is used only when it is necessary to treat adults. Children are given Erespal in liquid form - a bright-colored syrup with a pleasant taste and aroma. The age limit for prescribing Erespal is children under two years of age.

Erespal has analogues containing the same active ingredient: Erispirus, Epistat, Fenspiride, Siresp. All products are presented in both syrup and tablets. The price range of analogues is usually slightly lower than Erespal.

Erespal, like any medicine, should be prescribed only by the attending physician.

special instructions

Erespal is not an antibiotic, so for bacterial diseases this remedy cannot replace them. That is why, if necessary, the doctor should prescribe additional treatment.

If a child has diabetes, it is not recommended to prescribe syrup to him, since it contains sucrose. Please note that in some cases the drug causes impaired reaction and decreased concentration, so it is recommended that the child be provided with quiet bed rest during the treatment period.

For which cough should Erespal be taken?

Drugs in tablet and liquid form are recommended for the treatment of the following pathologies:

  • bronchitis;
  • laryngitis;
  • bronchial asthma;
  • measles and whooping cough;
  • nasopharyngitis;
  • bronchospasm;
  • otitis;
  • rhinitis;
  • sinusitis;
  • ARVI;
  • after operations on ENT organs;
  • pathologies that are accompanied by a barking cough.

Before starting therapy, you need to know what cough Erespal helps with. The active substance of the drug has a rapid anti-inflammatory effect, reduces the tone of the muscle wall and blood vessels. All these actions reduce the production of mucous secretion. Due to this effect, the drug is prescribed for a dry cough, which provokes severe inflammation, and not an excessive amount of sputum. Sometimes a remedy is prescribed for a wet cough with sputum that is difficult to separate.

Types of cough

Doctors classify coughs according to several characteristics, which helps make a more accurate diagnosis and choose the right treatment.

The following cough classifications are distinguished:

  • by intensity - a slight cough or a hysterical painful cough;
  • by duration – short-term (acute), protracted, chronic;
  • by nature – wet (productive or moist), dry;
  • in terms of volume and sound - silent, barking, hoarse, booming chest;
  • by time of appearance - in the morning, in the evenings, at night, seasonally.

To specify what type of cough Erespal syrup is for, it is necessary to clearly distinguish between dry and wet coughs and determine their main symptoms.

A non-productive (aka dry) cough is characterized by the fact that there is no sputum production during coughing. If the cause of such a cough is a disease of the nasopharynx (rhinopharyngitis, tonsillitis and others), then it is a natural reaction of the body to soreness and dryness of the throat mucosa. When a dry cough is accompanied by chest pain, you should take the identification of the causes that provoke it as seriously as possible in order to prevent possible complications: tears and even bloody discharge when coughing.

A wet (aka wet) cough gets its name from the fact that phlegm is produced when the cough is cleared. This type of cough is considered productive, since it indicates a clear active fight of the body against viruses and bacteria. Sputum, in turn, can be: mucous (colorless, actually transparent mucus), purulent (has a clear green tint); serous (discharge when coughing is yellow), bloody (with an admixture of blood in the mucus or a red-orange hue).

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

Different types of cough require different treatments. For example, if you make a mistake and drink syrups for dry cough when there is active sputum formation, you can develop serious problems with the lungs and bronchi, because all the mucus will accumulate in them and will not be coughed out. A medicine that is effective for wet coughs, taken against the background of a dry cough, can significantly complicate the patient’s condition, provoking painful attacks of unproductive coughing.

Therefore, it is so important to know the answer to the question: what cough does Erespal help with? Detailed properties and scope of use of the drug Erespal are given below.

Erespal syrup - description of the drug

Erespal is a modern drug used for inflammation in the respiratory tract. Its therapeutic effect is aimed at eliminating negative inflammatory processes in the bronchi. Erespal is actively used to treat a variety of diseases, during which the organs of the respiratory system are affected. The main active ingredient of this drug is fenspiride.

Average price 250 rub.

As soon as inflammation begins to develop in the respiratory system, various pathogenic microorganisms begin to actively multiply. As a result of this process, spasms appear in the smooth muscles of the bronchi, and hypersecretion of glands in the bronchi begins. Next, the patient begins to have attacks of dry and wet cough, sometimes shortness of breath develops and painful sensations appear in places of inflammation.

Erespal for cough, produced in the form of tablets and syrup, has already proven its effectiveness in the treatment of inflammatory processes. As a result of taking this drug, the active components have an effect on the lesions, which leads to relaxation of the bronchial muscles, a decrease in the number of microorganisms and the secretion of the bronchial glands. As a result of taking the drug, the cough gradually goes away and the accompanying discomfort during breathing disappears.

Release form and composition of the drug

The medicine is available in 2 forms. As indicated in the instructions for use, Erespal is prescribed in the form of syrup for children over 2 years of age and tablets for adolescents over 12 years of age and adults. The main substance in the medication is fenspiride hydrochloride.

It also contains a phytocomponent - natural licorice root extract. To give the syrup a pleasant taste, which is important when using it in small children, saccharin, sucrose, vanilla tincture and honey flavoring are added to the composition.

Fenspiride hydrochloride has several properties:

  • Pronounced anti-inflammatory effect on the respiratory tract;
  • Antispasmodic effect;
  • Increased cough productivity;
  • Antiallergic;
  • Promotes the expansion of bronchi.

Its concentration is 2 milligrams per 1 milliliter of product in liquid form and 80 mg in one tablet. The syrup is available in a 150 ml bottle.

Release forms

Erespal is produced by the French pharmaceutical industry in the form of two dosage forms - tablets (80 mg of fenspiride) and syrup containing 2 mg of fenspiride hydrochloride per 1 ml of liquid.

For the treatment of children under 14 years of age, only syrup is used.

Before use, the bottle of medicine must be shaken thoroughly.

Children over 14 years of age and adults can take both Erespal syrup and tablets.

Three effects of Erespal tablets and syrup

The medicine has three main effects on the body:

  1. Antispasmodic.
  2. Anti-inflammatory.
  3. Antiallergic.

The active substance fenspiride prevents spasm of bronchial smooth muscles, which leads to obstruction during inflammation. The release of fluid (exudate) into tissues and cavities from small blood vessels also slows down significantly. This response occurs due to inhibition of the production of biologically active substances - histamine, bradykinin, serotonin. Due to the suppression of their secretion, swelling of the mucous membranes and vascular permeability are reduced. Therapy leads to a decrease in cough, runny nose, and pain.

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

In addition to inhibiting arachidonic acid derivatives, the drug blocks α-adrenergic receptors, which respond to adrenaline and norepinephrine - hormones responsible for vasoconstriction, blood pressure, and the production of bronchial secretions. Thus, treatment with the drug leads to the suppression of hypersecretion of inflammatory factors, stopping the development of inflammatory reactions and bronchospasm. As a result, viscous sputum thins, gas exchange in the lungs normalizes, and breathing improves.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Relieves the inflammatory process, helps reduce the permeability of blood vessels and the release of exudate into the tissue. Stops the increase in bronchial spasm.

Interacts with mediators that cause inflammation and allergic reactions: the neurotransmitter serotonin, biogenic imine, peptide dilating blood vessels bradykinin. Relaxes vascular smooth muscles and is an antispasmodic.

Syrup in a significant dosage prescribed by a doctor reduces the production of inflammation-provoking substances (peptic information molecules, derivatives of the organic compound omega-6, reactive substances that damage cells).

Well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract into the blood. The maximum blood level occurs within 2.3 ± 2.5 (from half an hour to eight hours) in direct dependence on the dose taken. Half-life time is twelve hours. Excretion through the kidneys is ninety percent and the intestines are ten%.

Purpose

Respiratory tract diseases:

  • Damage to the nasal sinuses and laryngeal mucosa.
  • Inflammation of the bronchi (including those accompanied by respiratory failure), trachea, bronchioles.
  • Cold symptoms (cough reflex, sore throat) with: flu, whooping cough and measles.
  • For diseases of the respiratory tract that cause a cough reflex in cases where treatment with antibiotics is required.
  • Bronchial asthma (in combination with other medications).
  • Inflammation in different parts of the ear and mucous membrane of the sinuses.

Pharmacological authorities

Pharmacodynamics.

It has anti-bronchoconstrictor and anti-inflammatory powers, due to the interaction of several related mechanisms:

  • blocking H1-histamine receptors and having an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the bronchi;
  • anti-inflammatory action, which is the result of a change in the production of various proinflammatory factors (cytokines, TNFα, similar arachidonic acids, prostaglandins, leukotrienes, thromboxane, free radicals); actions from them can also be used to perform bronchoconstrictor action;
  • blocking α1-adrenergic receptors, which stimulate the secretion of viscous mucus.

The maximum concentration in blood plasma is reached at an average of 2.3 ± 2.5 years (interval - 0.5 to 8 years) after oral administration. Training period – 12 years

pharmachologic effect

Erespal syrup - instructions for use

The drug exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. Helps fight narrowing of bronchial tissues. These properties are due to the complex influence of mutually interconnected processes:

  • blocking H1 histamine receptors;
  • relaxing effect on bronchial smooth muscles;
  • anti-inflammatory effect due to inhibition of the synthesis of substances that promote inflammation, primarily prostaglandins, thromboxane, arachidonic acid derivatives, etc.;
  • blocking alpha adrenergic receptors that stimulate the production of thick mucus.

The maximum concentration in blood plasma is observed 6 hours after internal administration of Erespal cough syrup. The half-life is 12 hours. Fenspiride is excreted in urine.

Price and analogues

Since Erespal is an imported drug, its price is quite high. A 150 ml bottle of syrup can be purchased for 250-300 rubles.

Contraindications to the use of Erespal

Erespal has a small number of contraindications, most of them related to the individual reaction of the child’s body to the components of the drug:

  • the child's age is under 24 months;
  • individual intolerance to fenspiride hydrochloride and/or other components of the drug;
  • Erespal syrup is used with caution to treat patients with a history of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, and sucrose-isomaltose deficiency. This is due to the presence of sucrose in the composition of the drug.

Features of application

For some diseases that require the use of antibiotics and other drugs, Erespal is part of complex therapy. It is allowed to take it simultaneously with antibacterial drugs, but in no case can it be a replacement for them.

It is not recommended to drink alcohol or use sedatives during treatment: this may enhance the sedative effect of the medicine. This should also be taken into account when driving a car or operating machinery.

Reviews about Erespal syrup for children are positive, but some parents may be confused by its price, and they are interested in cheaper analogues of this medicine. The difference in price may be small, but significant for some, especially if you have to buy a lot of medicines. There are many other products that have the same active ingredient. These include:

  • Syrups: Bronchomax, Sinuspal, Inspiron, Fosidal, Erispirus, Siresp.
  • Tablets: Amispiron IC, Bronchomax, Inspiron, Epistat, Eladon.

When deciding to replace with an analogue, you should consult a doctor and take into account the concentration of the active substance, as well as other components.

Special cases

Erispal contains parabens, which can create the preconditions for allergies, which may manifest themselves in the future.

Patients with diabetes mellitus must take into account the quantitative presence of sucrose (one tsp - three grams of sucrose = 0.3 XE; one tbsp - nine grams of sucrose = 0.9 XE).

Targeted studies on the impact of Erespal on driving and interaction with mechanisms have not been conducted. Patients should be wary of the possible tendency to sleep, especially at the initial stage of treatment, and should not drink alcohol. You should also be careful when doing work that requires attentiveness and intensity of psychomotor responses.
